The boys and I were watching it and kept talking about how the really dramatic moments in the soundtrack felt like the Helldivers II songs. Then after we looked up the composer and well...yeah. Excellent work!
And then you remember Zeon killed half of humanity at the start of the war, the guy running it had that as part of the plan, and its becuase he's the kind of guy that takes being compared to Hitler as a compliment.

I can hear hints of a lot of stuff in this track, ranging from the orchestral elements of Gundam's OSTs to the flamenco guitars made famous among weebs thanks to _Ace Combat Zero_ to your own work on Helldivers II. It's quite the score you've drummed up, and it feels as though there's a more _personal_ element in there, too. Keep up the good work.
I love your music, it just does an incredible job of capturing the feeling and setting of what it's being used for. I don't skip the intro to this show because of the opening theme lol

So I did a piece that conveyed the idea of perpetual war, in the eyes of a Newtype (hence the rhythm, and harmonic shifts). I think they did a fantastic job with the visuals!
You have truly mastered the art of musical storytelling: This theme doesn't sound like a complete zeonic triumph, but a realistic feeling of overcoming one obstacle, only to encounter the next, as any soldier must face. 10 out of 10 work.

I like as it gives Zeon's side of the war and a good look into the one year war with out it being from the Federation side. Where zeon is made up of over the top goofy evil bad guys that are all super incompetent. Also the fact the gundam pilot is a Newtype implies that yhe Federation really did just kidnapped a kid from a space colony and force him to pilot the gundam.

However, I spent months and months studying other Gundam scores and (re)watching a few of the series start to end; possibly some stylistic elements osmosed? 🙂 (Doesn't hurt that some of my favorite composers, Yoko Kanno, Kou Otani and Kenji Kawai, have also scored Gundam series!)

Jank how? It looks great to me! This style isn't trying to go full mocap Avatar, it seems more like a stylistic choice to do keyframed animation, and it looks great.
@@domusavia1552 In terms of face rigging, the lip-syncing doesn't match what was spoken, even if you were to focus on English dub that it was made for, and everyone kind of has this uncanny stare to them as their mouth moves seemingly independently from everything else on their face. Maybe this is the least noticible with Solari and to a lesser extent, the rest of the supporting cast, but that just made the contrast all the more obvious. Body animation, on the other hand, isn't something they are immune to at all. While it's not the best seen in the opening sequence, it is on full display when they settle into their new base and Solari is doing her walk around the camp. Her walk cycle is stiff-backed and seems to be doing its best job at pretending to be one of those Honda Asimo robots and the camera focuses on characters gesturing around the campfire makes it look like some NPC from a 2009 video game, not the point of focus in the modern CG production. Of course, I'm not expecting Avatar level of technical marvel (although something towards that direction would be great, since basic mocap technology is quite accessible these days), even comparing this to the IGLOO series that ran from 2004 to 2008 revealed more character animation dynamic than this when they talked, moved, etc.
