I've had plenty of experiences similar to first game. You play the game as normal, tera as needed, are ahead 4 pokemon, and they just have this final pokemon that beats all of it. The only counters for it were used up earlier in the game.

You don’t want to close combat vs substitute because there’s no reason to lower your defenses… if it doesn’t sub it’s obviously better to take the ko
