      Cool vid! Please, Please, post this in the Il-2 forums. I agree the devs need to hear your conclusions on G-modeling.

    Having seen people black out on a roller coaster I assure you that you are indeed more resilient to high Gs than the average person. You also look VERY fit and that puts you way ahead of the curve.

    I grew up playing the original top gun on ps1 and then flight sims and ' flight gear' which was amazing back in the day. I didn't fly a real plane till my late 20s, a piper 150 but the instructor said I was lying and I had to have been flying for years already. I told him kind of, only on sims lol. but that's why they allow you to get some of your hours on sims now. it helps immensely with the basics and especially when working on your instrument ratings since you can play around with stuff and test limits in a way you don't want to do in real flight. crap since sim time counts now I should be able to fly the fw190-a8 with my eyes closed lol. now just to convince the guys with the only operational original in Washington state to let me fly her.

    I play il2 extensively (weekend morning Pacific Time I am always on Wing of Liberty) and I also own a 1997 Extra 200. The biggest difference between simulator is real flying is the latter your life is on the line and you will not feel the same way when you fly super low to ground and do rolls/loops in real life vs. sim like the Sky Combat Ace is taking you on the ride (you feel safe because you are trusting your instructor, you will feel totally different if you try this by yourself). If you search NTSB record Sky Combat Ace has crashed 3 of their Extra over the years and instructors and passenger all died in each crash.

    I think I wouldn't have a problem with motion sickness, but being as I get light headed standing up too fast, I don't think I could handle the g's, as much as I'd hate to admit it.
    That looked like so much fun!

    I used to play Red Baron 3D back in 1999. Then I did my glider pilot licence but I also enjoy flightsims today. When properly used they are greath to visit places I have never seen. MSFS in this respect for vfr is excellent.

    Great video, the one thing worth nothing about the g test though is that individual g tolerance varies massively person to person, everything from weight, bone density and muscle mass can have an effect. I would say that with your build you are able to sustain higher forces then the average person for sure, having done multiple sustained 6g maneuvers myself I can say how uncomfortable it can be, more so if you have not eaten anything. Another thing that can cause problems is eating habits as well, personally eating a good meal before doing any type of hard flying helps, though what gets a lot of people isn't so much the force itself but rather how it affects their stomachs. Not much worse then trying to fly while feeling very sick.

    I was never into flight sims, but after 20+ years of experience with racing sims one has seen a lot. That's why this went as expected (even a tiny bit better than expected). Well done sir 👍

    People who are good at flight simulators tend to do well in real life. But real life flyers tend to stuggle with a gaming simulator if they're not players.

    I had that exact joystick and game CFS, loved that JS, Was in a SQ called Flying Tigers and we used to fly against RAF662 SQ, now one of the members of 662 was a WW2 USAF Pilot vet called Don Archer who flow the P47m Wonderful Winnie , We had a dogfight, me in my P51 and Don in his P47, took about 10 seconds for him to shoot my butt out of the sky :]. His stories about the war brought the glory of air battles crashing down. I believe his stories can be found still online.

    Great vid sir! I would ask a question about the G-test though. Do you think that in the task saturation of an actual combat, you could have maintained the same quality of anti-G strain? I wonder if this is a factor in how some G-tolerance models are constructed in sims.

    • @flightdojo
      @flightdojo  10 месяцев назад +5

      Idk about task saturation. It’d be difficult to try to track multiple targets at that G load, that’s for sure. But then again, that’s a a tall order at 1g already.

      You are comparing yourself to pilots who may be fighting the psychological stress of being killed with cigarettes and liquor. WwIi pilots were offen not well rested with no sleep issues and leasding a healthy lifestile.
