Always pays off to put extra time & detail into this job, no one wants the hassle of having to fork off waste the following winter. Serious man for fine detail & fair dues to him
I think filling trailers on the left is just habit as you said. Trailers were historically set up to fill either while being towed behind or on the left of hand side of direct cut single and double chop harvesters which cut on the right hand side of the tractor and filling to the right of them would have ment driving the trailers over uncut grass. Great to see the pit covered, should be some quality feed come winter 👍👍
Originally side filling was from direct cut double-chop harvesters and you could only fill to the left as the crop was on the right. It made the only sense at the time. And precision chop naturally followed the in same vein. Although you can fill to the right, have you ever noticed when doing so, the the tractor pulling the trailer on the right hand side has two wheels of the tractor running on the, as of yet, non picked up row of grass so why bother, Drive on the clean field instead, Drivers are now so good that they can move the trailer so as to fill it properly even without radio, thereby lessening the neck-ache on the harvester driver. if you wanted you could run a camera feed from the chute to a screen in the cab of the tractor/self-propelled, so no need to rubber neck.
@@nialldaly7108 so you basically just repeated what I said. As for drivers being good enough to postion trailers to get a full load... thats nothing new, we were doing it just the same 35 years ago. Its part of the job... lol
@@chucklesx sorry, you are correct, didn't see the direct cut bit in your post, was reading on a small screen and hadn't scrolled down that far. only got to see the habit bit. but yes we agree the reason.
quality videos gerry.sandbags are the job for the sides alright.hot weather coming back wednesday i think be good time for hay. they were on about a hosepipe ban on the news
I was always thinkin it's cause ifvur liftin clockwise u want trailer on outside of u as not to tramp over the laying swards , also it's better if the trailer is following on the outside when turning into corners or start of a new row rather than blocking u on the inside , also apart from j.f , harvesters like mengele etc the schute comes up from the blower on the left side makin it closer , but to be fair even self propelled drivers in Ireland stil fill to the left lol
As you said Gerry trailer men will often take a step of a wing mirror with him. If they were on the other side tho it wouldn’t be a step or a wing mirror, it would be the header of the harvester. I know which 1 I’d rather have to fix.
Great looking pit!! The main reason why we fill to the left (and is wrong) is because we go clock wise around the field. So that means that if tractor and trailer were on the right they would be driving over the row of grass on the ground. We should go anti clockwise and work to the right every other attachment for the tractors do. I think this habit might have stemmed from the old single chop being use to side fill trailers.
gerry6420 also really liked your Kubota vs JD vids.you were very fair. I’d like to see you try out a claas 640 against your JD - they have the same engine but the claas has the same gearbox as the massy dyna 6. I think it would be interesting to compare them.
1.40 that cow hasn't a care in the world haha you'd swear a big 6 cylinder diesel wasn't even there. Still can't get over how well ye look after your machinery. Great video as per usual Gerry.
Hi Gerry, Another brilliant video and your silage pit is a credit to you, so neat and sealed so well 👏. Should be no spoilage there. No rain here in the wild west only a few drops nothing worth talking about. We kept a lot of Suckler Cows up until 4 years ago so I know where you are coming from regarding the grazing. Dry stock now so not too bad. Fields are brunt around here and hay meadows starting to suffer now too. Very funny about filling the trailers and the comments you got. I worked here for a neighbour and always pulled the trailers after the harvester and used blocks of timber for trailer steps 😱💔😭 back in the day. Hard times come again no more. 😂
Tearing to get our 2nd cut moving here in the southeast but if we were to spread slurry at the moment it would be like pouring a sealer over the silage fields so willing to hold off until the rain. Glad to see the silage went well and very enjoyable and top quality videos as always

Keep up the good work jerry 👍..
Over here we always loaded on the right an it had its downside as well 🤔 as in trailer driver not payin attention goin round bends on headland an hittin the pick up reel🙄😲😂
There are 2 main reasons why Irish Harvesters are to the right of the trailer:- 1 It came from direct Cut double chop side filling you are driving on clean cut ground as opposed to on uncut grass and that was continued on to presission chop as the trailers were built for that. 2. The trailer driver really has no idea where a harverstor driver may want to go, and they are in front of the harvestor and can get tangeled on each other during bends, Much better to let the harvestor go where he wants and the trailer can come round the outside and match him without exactly knowing where he might be going in the first place. OK you will know once he turns but not at first and that is where it gets complicated. 3 Also if you are driving as they do in the UK and you are on 10 foot rows or 20 foot rows you are nearly driving on a row of grass with one of the wheels of the trailer tractor. Radios are cheap, Argos, Lidl, Aldi will from time to time carry ones which are good enough for the job, and a camera on the top of the spout of the harvestor will help with the crick in the neck. Also Most spouts are on the left of the harvestor making it closer to the trailer if driven to the left.
I would highly recommend a Mavic Air or the Air 2 and a few batteries. I have one myself and can get amazing 4k footage from it for RUclips and about 16 minute's per battery. Of course the pro 2 or 2 zoom would be a bit better and have more range but I'm not sure they're worth the extra hundreds unless you're making a film for the Omniplex!
@@gerry6420 Dont forget the parrot Anafi, small light, chargable from a usb port or a powerbank, 26 min flight time per battery, slight cheaper than the mavic air but no forward, side or rear sensors. great drone though. I have both the Bebop2 and the Anafi
Did you ever use an old rossmore style trip agitator, we have one and very handy to put on, 2 pins and away ya go, if you line it up right its not even a minute job to put on, no hydraulics that wont go in to worry about, no rain so far here in cork but I'm seeing a few dark clouds north of me so I'm praying

it makes no sense to us to fill the trailer on the left as the pickup on the chopper is on the chopper drivers right hand side and the controls is on the right and the tractors are really close to each other would you considre trying haveing the trailers on the right hand side
