Great advice. I like how you revisted past builds demonstrating what you used.
Thanks guys 😊
I have watched this 2 times now for taking notes . Karl, this is seriously great content. You have dispelled a few dark areas i have about finishing projects. Thank you👍👍🙌🙌
Awesome, so glad pe are finding this useful 😊 cheers Davy.
Hello Karl,
Varnish and paints affect the appearance of the surfaces. Thank you for this useful comparison and information. See you. I wish you a nice new week. Big greetings.
Yours sincerely, Mehmet
Thanks Mehmet 😊
@@karlpopewoodcraft see you all the time. big greetings.
Useful comparison and walk through, Karl. Saved it in my playlist for future reference 👍
Awesome, super happy it's useful information Suj. 😊
I like the water based stains for indoor projects (the ones that look blue initially) mainly because they dry fast. Good stuff
Cheers Phil. 😊
Great stuff, I appreciate that you demonstrated it too.
Cheers Chris so much information to try and cram in. I'll probably do a part two later in the year. 😊
Great video Karl I love this kind of information
Thanks Andy, I'm super happy it's helpful to people.
Awesome advice and products for finishes. Great video!
Cheers mate 🍻
Brilliant informative video Karl well done
Cheers Dominic 😊
Great demonstration and explanation, cheers Karl 👍
Thanks Steve 😊 it's definitely a quick overview but hopefully will help people a little. 😊
Fantastic Vid! NO BS, straight to the point!! Just Awesome!!
Cheers mate, much appreciated feedback.
Great overview there mate. Top video for sharing info and explaining to the customers the different finishes they can choose from.
Cheers James, it's one of the most difficult areas I think, finishing so I really do try to simplifie it.
Great video mate very interesting
Thanks John.
Very detailed, and therefore very helpful! Thanks so much for putting this together. Cheers!
Cheers guys, hope you are both well oh and poops😊🦮
Lot of great solid advice. Going to make my decision making process a whole lot easier. Cheers mate, great video. 👍👍👍
Thanks Chris, I'm super happy it's of use.
Hi Karl; you just taught me so much mate; you explained it all in an easy to understand manner, thank you. Regards, Fred
Thank Fred, chuffed it came across well 😊
Thanks for another great video and clear explanations with examples appearing like background dreams. I mostly use 2 coats of shellac (Zinsser sealcoat with first coat half diluted with white spirit) then 3 coats of wax but you have definitely tempted me to try other finishes.
Thanks Ben, I definitely need to practice with shellac as I messed up a couple of finishs with it. Thanks for the info as well and feedback 😊
Great video mate, i know sod all about finishes but i do wanna get a load of different finishes to work with. Can be so expensive though. Gonna save this video for future use. You are obviously very knowledgeable when it comes to stuff like this
Thanks Grumpy, all learned from the school of youtube 🚸😂
And trial and error 😊 lots of mess ups😩
ha ha, gud man glad youve put this up.I'll watch this after my Sunday dinna
Sunday dinner yommy 😊
So many products Karl, through trial & error I’m finding that the Hardwax oils are pretty good but I’ve ordered a Osmo product & look forward to testing it out.
Very impressive review & these things help viewers immensely 🍻👍👍👍
Thanks Sumo, you made your own wax yet?
Hi Karl great content. What would you use on chopping boards or serving boards.
Hi Lee I use mineral oil first then food safe wax. 😊
Top man, great indepth descriptions and demonstrations.I will have to use water based because of my lung capacity being only 37% after meds.So i have to be careful of what im doing.Cheers Karl keep up the good work
Bloody hell Steve definitely go really carful then when choosing your finishs. Thanks for the great feedback as well. 😊
Excellent and informative video... I've been buying morrells ethanol and water based stains off ebay.. 15 euro for litre.. The jacobean is fantastic finish..
Cheers mate, hey that's a bargain as well 😊
Really informative video! Thanks! I’ve got a question. Can used rags for water-based dyes also self combust? Or is the comment you made applicable to oil-based finishes? Thank you 😀
Hi Victor thanks mate I'm glad people are finding this video useful. I'm pretty sure water based products are pretty safe and so is the rag.
I go through rag like there's no tomorrow lol I won't risk contaminated rag just incase.
Thanks Karl 😁. Great video and excellent demos 👍. Think I'll treat myself to some of the Osmo alternative (the German stuff). I love Osmo... but it is so so pricey. Thanks again for all the info 😁👍
Cheers Frank.
Mmm. Hard wax oil. I'd use that on everything if I could. Nice one Karl, certainly some food for thought there.
Cheers Pete, ye hardwax oil is very nice and pretty easy to use as well.
Hi im new to woodwork and just restored a park bench - i sanded the planks nice and smooth and hit it with Fiddes Supreme Wax Rugger Brown - i did a lot of layers and it looks amazing but when it rains it marks where the water soaks in etc - should i be putting some other type of finish on top to seal it up ?
Hi mate, fiddes isn't really suitable for exterior use. Best of using a exterior varnish.
@@karlpopewoodcraft thanks - could i varnish on top or would i have to sand back to bare wood again ?
Good video mate.. how do you think the fides would wear on plane totes
It's fairly hard wearing and easily replied, so OK I think.
@@karlpopewoodcraft cheers Karl
Can you varnish or polyurethane over the Fiddes wax?
Hi mate, no is wouldn't hold up mate, it's pretty durable though and easy to touch up if scratched.
Great video mate 😉, i'v just done my worktops with 2 ccoats of acrylic varnish and it feels a little tacky 2 days in. Is this normal and will it dry out karl?🤔
2 days in still tacky sounds a bit strange for acrylic Shaun, is it damp or cold? Normally acrylic is touch dry in 30mins. What was underneath the acrylic? Any other finishing?
@@karlpopewoodcraft lovely and warm in the kitchen mate, there was water based teak oil used underneath if I remember right 😬
@@shaun...6838 hmmm should of been ok then.
@@shaun...6838 possibly just give it a few more days to settle down see what happens. 😏
@@karlpopewoodcraft do you think there is anything to take away the tackines?
Great video for someone like me, who knows nothing. Do you leave your brushes in white spirit permanently or do you wash them after a period of time?
Hi Alan I keep mine in permanently, but I'm using them every day 😊 I'd probably wash if it was occasionally. 😊
@@karlpopewoodcraft Perfect, cheers
Thanks Karl, I can see this video being a go to REFERENCE for a lot of guys and gals when they are considering what finish to use and how to apply instead of guessing.... Wilko's Danish Oil is my go to... thats what on your Flappy Paddle.. Cheers Paul... 3 thumbs down what the f*ck
Cheers Paul, I always get plenty of thumbs down 😂 I'm pretty sure it's tge same 4 or 5 people every time 🤣😂. Super happy people are finding this useful as well 😊 and the flappy paddle is going strong mate, wouldn't be without it.
