I used stainless polish first. It brightened up the exterior metal parts. Very labor intensive. I tried Gumout on my 55 year-old reel metal parts and that worked well with only brushing.
From an era where design and function were both thought of. I love the older side plates with the intricate scenes were cast into the Bakelite. Just like old Weston Bakelite cased multi-meters. They have a cult following. edited to add, machine dishwasher detergent has an anti-foam ingredient added which makes it better than Dawn or other hand wash detergents. Try it out some time, you'll like it. All metal safe.
Another trick is that you can put parts in a jar with the cleaner of your choice, put the lid on the jar and stand it up in the ultrasonic. It works just as good as if you put the chemical in the ultrasonic but with no messy cleanup.
Thanks for checking out the video. A little finger work is all it takes. Search "tsg reel senator" or check out my channel's video library (ruclips.net/user/tsgreelservice). Lots of info to be gleaned if you take the time to look around. Spread the word about the channel.
