That's a good point, I think Boygenius is in a very interesting point of popularity that seems indie but is knowable and mainstream in the same way Tame Impala is. If they won album of the year they'd be stepping over some gigantic albums that were critically acclaimed or commercially dominated and I bet neither the mainstream listeners nor the more underground types would be Cool About It.
I think it’s funny they said they are going on a break like a day or two before the Grammys like they did it on purpose I do think they have a very good chance of winning. I do think they are in the mainstream though so many people love phoebe and knows about her side project.

as an older boygenius fan who knows a lof of people in the fan community i can affirm this;
we have the pretentious kind who loathe their new popularity (as well as engage in discourse relating to their more recent 'capitalistic moves' ... as in releasing a lot of overpriced merch and concert tickets) and the people who find them cringe or just don't care about them as they're not exactly the #1 mainstream band. there's crazy amount of discourse about them from literally every side. it would be chaos except for the diehard fans who worship their every move - but they in turn will go to war and harass anyone who disagrees lol

9:03 Regarding the different parentheticals, even though they’re from the same album, when they were put out as singles, they were by different labels. Billie’s song was released as a single by her label (Darkroom/Interscope), while Dua’s song was released as a single by the same label that also released the album (Atlantic).

I’m pretty sure Pinkpantheress’s latest album is eligible for the next year’s Grammys, as this years counted from music released in October 2022-September 2023.
PinkPantheress’ album came out in November, so it wouldn’t be nominated until next year’s SCAMMYs.
kali’s recent album will be eligible for 2025, but Red Moon in Venus was definitely snubbed in terms of nominations and acknowledgments

i love taylor, i’m a swiftie if you will, and i really do think she deserves SOME sort of award to acknowledge her massive year, but i don’t think it should be for midnights? midnights and anti-hero have grown on me sure but they’re definitely not my top picks to win in any of the categories, honestly i think SZA or boy genius deserve it

It was the 2nd most streamed album of the year, most streamed album in a single day by any artist, the album debuted at number 1 and filled the top 10 with its release, anti hero and karma are still charting, won a shit ton of awards at the VMAs, and overall has a pretty good critic response. SOS was really good, and it was even the third most streamed album of the year, but midnights was just such an influential album and sparked almost all the success she had in 2023.
I think the biggest snub in the general field noms is Foo Fighters. They reliably get nominated in the rock field every time they put out an album, and BHWA is one of their best albums ever and a beautiful tribute to Taylor Hawkins who they also paid tribute to in last year’s ceremony. It feels silly that this is getting identical treatment from the Grammys as Medicine at Midnight or any other of their mid post-post-grunge slop albums
i do not agree on this point. To me paramore and arctic monkeys had better albums for sure, but i should listen to that foo fighters album. Often the grammys gives those awards to the least rockiest album!

Being Funny In a Foreign Language was really the biggest snub in my opinion. Perhaps just a victim of the grammy's weird eligibility window, but even still. It was The 1975's tightest and most Grammy-friendly album yet, even produced by grammy-darling Jack Antonoff, and with two hugely successful tours that followed it and just...nothing, not even a nod in the like alternative or rock categories? Wild.

Happy Grammys Day! Lukewarm take: As much as I loved Taylor's music growing up, I'm tired of her constantly winning AOTY. Especially when pretty much every other album nominated knocks Midnights out of the park.
But the Grammys are gonna Grammy and we're gonna get the rep tv announcement (conveniently released in time with her Europe tour) and the internet will explode. Y'all, I feel old as hell and I'm only 26! All that said though, I am looking forward to scrolling through the results with my coffee and toast tomorrow, as I'm an internet grandma at heart 👵
(Also I hope The Only Category That Matters goes to Caroline or Victoria. Not a hot take at all but those albums both sound phenomenal and if Victoria doesn't win something, I may throw my TV out the window.)

i think arctic monkeys were extremely snubbed. I think they are way more varied and more talented and iconic than boy genius and makes music i prefer. They have released some of the best new rock albums during this decade and really desserves more reconigition by the academy. The academy only have a hard on for american acts, mostly emotionall songs with often less interesting instrumentals, but still indie enough to seem pretentious enough. I love that paramore won, definitly desserves. This is why is the best album of 2023

You actually got it right. I guess Grammys are predictable. Taylor got her sweep, at least album-wise, Miley did win Best Pop Song and Record of the Year, and Billie did win Song of the Year. Your additions were right. And you got your win on Victoria, I'm not mad at it at all. Lana didn't win anything tho as well as Olivia, idk if you liked GUTS but for me it was more deserving than the actual winners but that's ok. boygenius did get wins on the rock cattegories, which is amazing, 3 full on Grammys, and Paramore, too (idk if you liked This Is Why but for me it was more deserving yeah you know the deal).
It was boring for me tho. I got way more excited for the pre-ceremony awards as you can see. I got what I wanted there what can I say. With the rest however... I mean I really like the Billie track, I'm glad Miley finally got a Grammy and I even enjoyed Midnigts, but they take all of the excitement out of me.
It really proved to be a popularity contest. You said Billie always wins anything, but I'm reminding you of 2021 with sth called Happier Than Ever, the song and the album. And just like Olivia, imo, the sophmore was better tho less commercial, and since they already got their awards before they forgot about them. Not trully tho cause they gave it all to Billie except for the time she deserved it the most.
So even though other wins in other areas got me excited, and I was for most of the categories cause there was barely any bad on them, I cannot help to get dissappointed once again sorely for the main ones. I mean, there was always a sweep: 2020 was Billie, 2022 Bruno, now Taylor and maybe Miley ig...? Idk, this year really proved to be a popularity contest, cause why now Miley finally got a Grammy? And why did Taylor win album-wise? Billie also got tons of awards for WWIMF, she didn't even feel worthy of it (she was tho), and I get why. There was better contenders, even though I liked pretty much all of the nominations! Only Grammys are able to suck out all the fun of sth like this by making it boring and predictable. I also had to stay up late for this. I'm mad ngl. I don't think I'll be watching next year
