There was a time, maybe the mid-late 2000s, where almost every feminine hygiene product ad included the phrase "soft and strong". It was literally the first thing that popped into my mind when I first heard it.
@ambersmith2612 no she indeed ended on good quality music one of her last songs is 'Harleys in Hawaii " and it's a bop,she should just retire or make good music
I almost fell out of my chair when you said Katy Perry is 53 years old... for other millennials who thought for a second they suddenly went senile, Katy Perry is 39 😮💨
lmao thank you. I was like "??!!? ahmm what year is it???" However, I was thiiiis close to just accepting this presented reality because her being 53 would've made that tone-deaf mess she released understandable honestly.
Honestly what she SHOULD be doing near the end of her career is maybe doing a tour of teenage dream for their recent anniversary. THAT WAS THE MUSIC THAT MADE HER POPULAR, the music that EVERYONE loved her for!!! And a tour that would not only sell out and make her bank but give a lot of now adults to relive their teenage years and their early love of music.
Exactly! And then maybe outside of that, she needs to experiment more with her music. All of these other artists are showing growth and maturity, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Beyoncé, it just feels like Katy Perry is trying to stay in that same time during the 2000s when she was popular. If she wants her career to expand, she needs to do something different with her music
@@chrisbacon1275 i think she needs to stop making music all together. she peaked years ago and that’s fine but all her attempts at music since witness have been average, with the exception of harleys in hawaii. that’s truly the ONLY one of her newer songs that’s on par with her teenage dream era

A thing about the Kesha court case is that she wasn’t even taking him to court to charge him / hold him liable for anything. She just didn’t want to work with him anymore and he was using her contract to trap her into not being able to leave
and that's the problem really. the accusation had 'nothing' to do with the actual case, about legally getting out of the contract. She used it as a reason she wanted to get out of the contract, without actually wanting to prove the accusation in court. If she took him to court for grape first and he was found liable in that type of case, she would then be able to get out of the contract easily, from what the law analysts said while the case was taking place.
@@martasorangeberry Do you have any, any clue what it is like to go to court for sexual assault? It's clear you don't, because if you did, you wouldn't be spouting this.

I find it sad that Dr. Luke most likely paid and kept everyone he abused quiet, just to keep Kesha isolated and alone when she spoke out against him. Shame on him and everyone that helped protect him.
Dr.Luke needs a pr company. He was never convicted, there was no proof of assault other than Kesha stating that Katy was assaulted (which Katy denied under oath). Kesha most likely lied to get out of a contract. Why do people automatically believe her stories?
@@sphinxkat Yes actually I have to agree with you. Because this is a case of he said/she said and if it where me being accused of something like this with no physical evidence then I would hope people would be fair and impartial too. I don't know if he is guilty or not but I know so far he was never convicted.
The judge ruled that while the court found that Dr Luke was almost certainly assaulting Kesha, it didn’t mean she could break her contract with him. So. Kinda throws the whole devils advocate thing outta the water really.
Just want to clarify that Kesha's song "Backstabber" was on her first album and has always had the lyric "Katie's to my left". Also she has preformed it at alot of her concerts so her singing that was not a Katy Perry diss.
Every time I see Katy, I think about how she forced a kiss on that contestant on American Idol. He was saving his first kiss for his first love. And she forced herself on him.

Mediocrity is forgivable. Working with Dr.Luke, who SAed Kesha, is not ... especially since it was supposed to be a feminist anthem. And then it featured Trisha Paytas, who has a lOOOOOOOOOOOONg list of awful behaviour, including discrediting her husband Moses' SA accusers. On a "feminist" song.
not SAed, GRAPED. THAT'S A GENUINE GRAPE DESCRIPTION. i know she cant say he officially did it but it would be crazy if he didnt and just took off her clothes for no reason.
Doesn't everyone also believe Katy is a victim of Dr Luke? That's confusing me. If half the shit said about him is true, she didn't have a choice, she was under contract for 6 albums with him.

Being 39 is an issue if you’re still selling a youthful, shallow brand. The point is she hasn’t matured throughout her career. There never was any depth to her writing, and she’s not maturing into any depth either.
Never liked Katy Perry, ever since she lost an award to Tokio Hotel in like.. the 2010's, and her response was to sing "You're So Gay" on stage afterwards. Just so incredibly childish, and lowkey homophobic. Mind you, she was an adult at that time, while they were still teens.
Tokio Hotel is miles better than her. No wonder Bill took so long to comfortably come out and be himself. I used to have a HUGE crush on him back when I was 12...turns out I ended up gay too lol
Someone said they think this song was written for the barbie movie but then never chosen (replace "woman's world" with "barbies world") and that's the only way this song makes even one shred of sense.
Or she went for that theme knowing the barbie movie was coming out thinking ah everyone wants a woman centric song because that was the point of the movie. I’ll cash in on that!

The most tragic but comical part of the whole comeback is how she really thinks a "women empowerment song" should be written by the man that has multiple allegations under his belt alongside a couple of big hits. And she only looked at the big hit part. Nobody likes a hypocrite. Any self-respecting woman would despise such an embarrassing song.
I love how Gustav was barking with some attitude in the background and then he just appeared on your lap. He was just chilling on your lap like “yep, I always get my way”. 😂 He’s so cute.
9:16 people definitely bashed Saweetie and Doja Cat. I’m not a super fan of either. Doja Cat had a lot of backlash in particular and she said Dr. Luke didn’t even do anything. He just took credit for “Say So” and “Kiss Me More” because she is signed to his label, which she did in 2013 before it became known about his abuse of Kesha. I think the case might be different for Saweetie but people don’t really check for her music.
I know we're not putting Doja Cat out there like she's innocent. Doctor Luke is a scumbag, but she's every inch as bad and she still has relevance/a career.
Btw when Kesha said Katy’s to the left. It was from an original song she wrote back in 2009 and the lyric actually says “Kattie’s to the left” She wasn't referring to Katy Perry at all it’s just an old song called “Backstabber” talking about a girl named Jeanie who stole her car.

I might get shit for this but I really don’t like the digs at Katy Perry’s age. It’s time to embrace women getting older, not call them “middle aged” when they’re still in their 30’s and use terms like “washed”. Criticize the music, the Dr. Luke collab, etc but there’s nothing wrong with a woman getting older and still wanting to have a career. This is the type of shit that makes us feel like we have to stay 25 forever because no one will accept us after 30. edit: ok so apparently 39-40 is in fact middle aged lol my mom had me at 38 so my concept of that might be a little blurred, but the fact is it was said in a derogatory way and used as an insult and a way to put her down, so my opinion stays the same.
Well, 40 is the middle of the human age range, but that shouldn't be an insult for sure. My partner is 40 and the hottest person I've ever seen... and even if you weren't attractive at that age it would still be fine.
Thank God someone posted this comment because the ageism and sexism intertwined together is not it. That's diabolical to state that she's 59 when you know damn well that's not her age. Criticize her music and what she's doing but don't criticize something that's immutable about her. If you claim to be a feminist that you care about equality don't do this to women. I truly believe that she made this entire music video just to show off her body…. It doesn’t make sense otherwise. I mean, she’s a mom, she’s almost 40… she looks incredible for sure. But it’s 2024. We’ve spent the last 15 years trying to get rid of the whole “being sexy is more than talent” narrative that has plagued women since the beginning of the entertainment industry. & she really thought she could dance around nearly naked, showing off her body & it would fill in the gaps where her “talent” took the day off. Like, imagine thinking that you could write a “feminist anthem” but then do everything that makes women look like a joke & pretending it’s satire when it’s actually mockery…. Nobody is saying women can’t be sexy or feminism isn’t about owning your sexuality & using it when you want to… but when you’re deliberately trying to embody all of these anti feminist tropes under the guise of it being “real feminism” but acknowledging that it’s actually exactly what men who don’t understand what feminism is, think it is. Like bro. She didn’t get anything right. Far from it. Say feminism one more time dude.

A bit of context as an Australian. Our grand final gets 100K people attending the MCG for it, and the tv views are incredible here, however, the halftime entertainment is secondary to us Australians, we go to the football to watch the actual football, not a halftime show. It’s a pretty big deal here in Australia regardless.. Not sticking up for Katy Perry either, the AFL averages like the 3rd most attended across a season in the whole world, so it’s not some little insignificant thing she’s doing imo.
What Katy needed to do was to release music without caring about a "comeback." She has an audience, she had her time in the spotlight and she has money. She should focus on making music for herself and her fans and not seem so desperate to pander to others. This is why I like artists like Charli XCX, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kesha, Raye, Becky Hill, etc. They have had their hits and probably will have more but their main focus is not to out do themselves. If it happens, it happens. I mean look at what happend to JLo. She flopped majorly because she wanted to have her album be as hyped as her past.
That's exactly what I'm saying, she could've shown some self respect and make some decent songs, not caring to gain new audience, just for her fanbase and herself
It seems disingenuous to say "its a womens world" While there are states in the US where a woman cant get proper health care While birth control and plan B are gaining traction to be restricted While trad wifery and general misogyny are on the rise She seems to be celebrating something that doesnt exist for a huge portion of the population On top of that its a bad song written by a bad man.
Okay, man, you might have a point with the rest of the list, but you can't put "trad wifery" there. If you want to give women freedom of choice, that means you can't point to some women who say "I'm going to make my job Homemaker and I'm going to be a wife and mother" and say "YOU'RE BAD AND YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT."
Right? We literally live in a post-Roe v wade world now and more and more of our rights are at stake than they've been in the past 40ish years. No, the music video was legitimately terrible too, lol. Taking a feminist icon like Rosie the Riveter and turning her into something that "just looks pretty" is pretty awful and definitely not feminist. I bet she's turned into one of those older people who only listen to music that they grew up with and that's why she thinks her stuff sounds good.
That's the point though. I don't think it was well done, but it makes sense. She is poking fun at " Oh yeah it's totally a woman's world, we're so lucky. Thy let us do anything now and we're respected." like " WOW, look at these respectable women word, Chuck. " but it's just boobs and looking pretty with a hammer. Which isn't feminism and is about the male gaze. She's poking at corporate ideology and them trying to sell it, pretending it's feminism when it's not. The issue is the song is serious about feminism. But the video is about poking fun at all these feminist ads and videos that are clearly made by men for men and exaggerating it to the point calling it out. I do gotta say the people pointing out how simplistic her music always was, going back and looking at the lyrics yeah it was similarly simplistic. I guess that’s the battle of pop music finding the balance of catchy but not completely valid
It honestly just sounds like Lady Gaga was saying, "admitting something like this would be career ending and her and Katy don't want that" which is what makes it so odd for Kesha and her team to name drop other women like that.

Katy Perry has always been an awful person. She hasn’t changed. Problem for her is, the world has. The way she has treated vulnerable, elderly ppl is disgusting.
Hey I don’t like Katy Perry either but don’t shit on her for her age. This is why we have 12 year olds using retinoids. People are too casual with ageism.
To be honest, I believe the video isn't about "bullying" her for being old, (she's not even old) but saying that she should embrace the fact that she's grown and matured and try to make songs with self respect, more mature and not ripoffs of her old songs. It's not 2007 anymore and it's embarrassing for her to act like it is. She could've just continued her career by making songs to keep her old audience mostly and perhaps gain some popularity again and that would've been great
The first thing that stood out as odd to me was the music video. The song is supposed to be very feminist, but the video is aggressively male gaze, and not in a joke way. It feels like it was made to appeal to the male gaze while placating women. The song is bad. Don't get me wrong! But the video really is just as bad.

This is what I found In recent years, Eskimo has come to be regarded as offensive (partly through the associations of the now discredited etymology 'one who eats raw flesh'). The peoples inhabiting the regions from northwestern Canada to western Greenland call themselves Inuit (see usage at Inuit), but in the US, Eskimo is the only term that can be properly applied to all of the peoples as a whole, and it is still widely used in anthropological and archaeological contexts. I think in the US it’s more of just the actual term to refer to those people rather than derogatory
@@oddpickleHey man, coop still has a Canadian audience, an audience which still includes that very group of people who that derogatory term is used for. I'm sure any person wouldn't want to hurt anyone else with an outdated, inaccurate, racist term. :)

Katy never really changed; her music has sounded the same since the mid-2010s. It has always been a very watered-down and modernized version of feminism, created with the specific purpose of appealing to a much more generalized audience-think 'girl power' T-shirts you'd buy at JCPenney in 2014. At the time, that was a lot of progress, as we saw many people start to get on board with the concept. However, as time went on, the ideas and understanding of feminism evolved. We moved on from needing to tell every girl that she can do the same things as a man to needing to protect women from the waves of violence and hate that have spread over the last decade. What was once the more silent, outcast version of the feminist movement is now the much more modernized version. People heard Katy’s music, took those ideas, and ran with them, ultimately leaving her behind in the process. She, along with her writers and producers, have refused to look at modern times and recognize the issues because, as a whole, the 'girl power' movement was created by men for men. It was there to reassure men: "It's okay, we promise women don’t want to hurt you and take your jobs; they just want to have fun and wear bikinis without you objectifying them. Is that too much to ask?" What her team has failed to realize is that feminist ideals of the modern movement refuse to bend to the needs, wants, and fears of men. We've done it for far too long, and at a certain point, we need to stand our ground and state outright what we want. People don't want to hear the voice of a woman who is simply the face of corrupted men. People don't want to be talked down to and told they can do things they already know they can, because at its core, Katy’s music today and of the past is simply a lukewarm attempt at corporate feminism, and that’s just not something we look at anymore and think, "Wow, progress." I really don't believe she changed or got worse; I think we just realized that a rich and successful white woman wasn't even close to all feminism in the music industry could be.
It's Capitalistic Feminism, Almost Polar Opposite Ideologies lol but it's like selling a product which happens to be feminism to girls and women for their own personal benefit.
My take on it is this: She had to explain her art to everyone because it was clearly not working, which means, she has been too into her own bubble, that she didn't read the room. The actual state of the world is screaming for talent. Katy literally had to explain that it was a "satire" and how it was a satire. It just didn't work because it felt more like a mockery of something she used to be herself. And her new single is no better as much as her fans try to put it that way. She needs to find a songwriter that helps her outing her feelings (as Bonnie did), and make some calls to more relevant and talented producers, like Stargate and Max Martin.
I still remember when she disrespected Mariah on a talk show interview where she said Mariah is only “fabulous as a throwback”. Mariah has classic songs that will stand the test of time, while she’s got songs that no one remember in a decade or so. Katy’s ego is bigger than her meager talent and the comeuppance is well deserved.
As an Aussie, when the AFL said that Katy Perry would be playing at the grand final, I was so shocked cause we never get “big artists” playing in their prime at our grand finals 😂
As an Australian and AFL ENTHUSIAST, this video was rough for me. Sure we don't have the money like the superbowl, but the AFL Grand Final is very sentimental and hugely celebrated in Melbourne where I am from. Every year over 100,000 people attend the game in person and millions watch in pubs or at house parties. Everyone here will be watching Katy Perry perform on that beautiful spring day in September, hanging out with their mates and eating party pies! It's our culture! I for one am glad we've got someone a bit more "modern" than previous performers (e.g., KISS in 2023 or Robbie Williams in 2022). Although you're right it certainly doesn't help her case for being relevant in pop music currently. The only people to perform for us this century that were trending in music at the time were Ed Sheehan in 2014 and Tones and I in 2019, which also didn't age well imo
So i personally didn't know what the AFL was before this vid since i live under a boulder but from the comments here, im getting that this is a big thing (duh) for Australia. I also want to say that Coops needs to take a step back and perhaps xome back to this at a lower energy cause it was a lot. There's a whole ass war in the comments bruh 😪
We have college football games here that have 100,000 people in the stadium for each game of the season, there are 8 stadiums that hold at least 100k, and they wouldn't hold that many if they didn't need all the seats. And these aren't big cities, they are southern college states. So, it's not like the Superbowl where 123.4 million viewers watched last year.
@@calliew311 if you take into consideration that Australia only has 27 million people, 8 million of which are immigrants (likely not familiar with the sport), and a viewership of 5 million viewers for the AFL grand final last year, the comparison of the AFL grand final being Australia's version of the Superbowl isn't too far off

Nah he did her dirty😂
I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO GOOGLE! Like she is NOT that much older than me 🤣🤣
Honestly what she SHOULD be doing near the end of her career is maybe doing a tour of teenage dream for their recent anniversary.

@cerebrumexcrement why would she want to get out of the contract though?
and that's the problem really. the accusation had 'nothing' to do with the actual case, about legally getting out of the contract. She used it as a reason she wanted to get out of the contract, without actually wanting to prove the accusation in court.
If she took him to court for grape first and he was found liable in that type of case, she would then be able to get out of the contract easily, from what the law analysts said while the case was taking place.

"Flop" has been around for decades. What Witness arguably created was the phrase "Flop Era."
Every popstar is nearly nude in their videos, but their videos are still fashionable and interesting to watch for most of us. Katy's video is just softcore prn. I was so caught off guard by the boob jiggle close-up in the video, that was when I confirmed it was made for men, and if anything it made me feel alienated. Like it's a woman's world...if you're hot, thin, and have huge tits.
Thank you! You summed it up perfectly 🙏
That is how i have felt about her since always , there is never any point for her to be almost naked in many of her song , and is not empowering , she just sells her body like meat
Agreed 100%
These are my exact thoughts honestly. Even in the song cover, she's almost naked? And making a "pick me anthem" is the worst idea for a comeback, tbh.

@@colin_berdoova lmaoo everyone else is pressed about the age related comments but all the Aussies are rallying around the one dig at a sport we don't necessarily like 💀
A bit of context as an Australian.

It seems disingenuous to say "its a womens world"
While there are states in the US where a woman cant get proper health care
While birth control and plan B are gaining traction to be restricted
While trad wifery and general misogyny are on the rise
She seems to be celebrating something that doesnt exist for a huge portion of the population
On top of that its a bad song written by a bad man.
Calling it a woman's world would only work as an artistic statement if it was coming from a place of sarcasm or bitter irony. I truly don't get what Katy is on about with all this. It feels like she's just willfully blind to everything that isn't her career or comeback.
@@pensandshakers Sure, but the whole "tradwife movement" it's way more than just being a homemaker. SAHMs have existed since the dawn of time, and they'll continue to exist because of the freedom of women to choose how best to live their lives. But you can't deny that the whole tradwife movement came to be because of the increased white christian nationalism that's nostalgic of the 1950's "women go back home" post-war propaganda, that argues that ALL women should be completely submisse and be at home.
@@pensandshakers women advertising being a trad wife on tiktok (theyre not even a trad wife when influencing is their job) without showing any of the risks or negatives are the issue, not actual stay at home mothers.
@@pinkmiku12 And people who promote career-driven lives to young women show the negatives of that lifestyle? You're just talking about the public speakers, the entertainers at that point. May as well jump all over those "aesthetic ice" Tiktokers for promoting an unhealthy ideal of what your life should be like. Or the "pack with me" people for promoting the overuse of single-use plastics. "Trad wifery" isn't comparable with Misogyny and it's detrimental to both sides of the discussion to try and equate them.
Thy let us do anything now and we're respected."
like " WOW, look at these respectable women word, Chuck.
So it's 2 messages that don't match gettign mixed up
Hey lol I mostly only listen to music I grew up with haha But I do recognize when something new sounds good.
It’s NOT a commentary on 2010s white feminism if there’s no commentary… all she did was 2010s white feminism??? There was no turn no elevation no nothing

I respectfully disagree, this song is just mildly worse than what she used to sing. And it is still better than Swish Swish.

Hey I don’t like Katy Perry either but don’t shit on her for her age. This is why we have 12 year olds using retinoids. People are too casual with ageism.
She’s just too old to be doing this childish stuff thats how I see it
She’s still way too grown to be acting childish
Imagine risking your reputation to work with Dr Luke and STILL flopping.

Edit: I just remembered, that she garnered a lot of support and sympathy for surviving an abusive romantic relationship with Russell Brand and this is what she does with it?! Work with another woman's abuser???

Hey Cooper, just wanted to let you know, in Canada saying E*kimo is considered derogatory by many Indigenous communities, especially the Inuit, due to the history of the term being used by white colonists. Unsure of how it is in the States, but just a heads up, when you're visiting Canada, don't say that 😭💜 (all love, just trying to help out!)
Edit: Omg the amount of you in the comments being so open to learning and growing is so heartwarming; I'm so happy everyone is so openminded here!!
This is what I found
In recent years, Eskimo has come to be regarded as offensive (partly through the associations of the now discredited etymology 'one who eats raw flesh').
@oddpickle if you're not indigenous it's not your place to speak on it
@@oddpickleno it’s literally a slur. In Canada, in America, anywhere. It’s not “the only term” you literally used Inuit in your comment. So there’s one. Or the name of whichever people are being referenced. I love coop and as a Native American, though not Inuit so it’s still really not my place, I don’t feel the need hold it against him unless doubled down on. But if someone tells you that something is derogatory or a slur, you don’t have the right to “um actually” them.
I was hoping that someone pointed this out too. I feel awkward pointing this out myself to the people that say it around me but I do hope that it becomes more well known in the future. I usually just tell my friends to refer to me as Alaskan or Inuit instead and they usually understand.

Is that too much to ask?"
What her team has failed to realize is that feminist ideals of the modern movement refuse to bend to the needs, wants, and fears of men.

@@Mina-nn1ou Exactly. It’s an attempt to sell back something women should have had sense the being. Great point Mina!
My take on it is this:
She had to explain her art to everyone because it was clearly not working, which means, she has been too into her own bubble, that she didn't read the room.
Been suffering severe food poisoning and periods for like 4 days now and Film Cooper is the only thing keeping me sane
The one verse of woman's world reminds me of the song that girl sings for her dog. "She's so brave, she's well behaved, she is not afraid."

Well Katy has officially entered flop era if not 3 years ago😂
