    Superman: Legacy is the theme's last hope. If they don't make sets for that film, then I'd say the writing is on the wall and it's only Batman for the foreseeable future.

    Lego DC might have been greater than Lego Marvel if it made several sets for other famous characters such as Superman or Flash. Hopefully we get a lego Superman:Legacy set when the movie comes out.

    I dont mind having Batman only as the theme. My problem is how they dont use the potential behind this. Jokerland and the Dynamic Duo Funhouse are my some of my favorite sets for example because the concept of a funfair taken over by supervillains is amazing and you can do so mutch with it. A Mad Hatter based Tea Cup Ride, a scarecrow haunted house, etc. Or just in general more villain based sets, even if they are just vehicles. Scarecrows Harvester of Fear and Jokers Steamroller for example were really unique and amazing sets. Or they could give us actual Gotham Locations like the Monarch Theater, Iceberg Lounge, Gotham Zoo, Ace Chemicals, etc.
    Instead of using this great potential, we only get the same three Batman Vehicles again and again. And instead of at least including unique villains, we only get Joker and Harley Quinn…

    DC is the theme that got me into LEGO and it’s been so sad seeing a decline in what I love and hearing all these idiotic statements the past few years
    Back in 2021 I proposed that they could’ve done generic JL sets that indirectly tie to The Suicide Squad and ZSJL by including comic versions of the characters
    Also a lot of their statements and decisions are infuriating
    1. They completely forgot ZSJL came out that year and didn’t mention it
    2. The past 3 years rule is dumb like you said (and Superman is one of the most iconic characters how can he not get his own set)
    3. The lack of comic book sets is just terrible
    4. And if DC is failing, well that’s what happened when you remake the same set
    I really hope for the better but it sucks that they’ve ignored all the last DC movies and shows

    My dream is for Lego DC (and Marvel) to get to the point where they can start making sets with Minifigures for comic fans. I don't think that classic versions of characters like the Avengers or Jsa will ever get Minifigures (and if they do they probably won't have leg printing)

    • @themaskedraff
      @themaskedraff 11 месяцев назад +1

      At the end of the day, minifigures are some of the major things people NEED from DC, even if they don't get the buildings and such, so yea, a much wider selection and more accessible way to get obsecure-er minifigs would be great, the dc minifigure line included Stargirl, who's in a few renditions of the JSA, and a classic Jay Garrick Flash which was fantastic, I'd honestly die for more of the DC minifgires line

    • @tomgames8616
      @tomgames8616 11 месяцев назад

      We've gotten several Avengers based off the comic version.
      The captain america mech minifigure, the wolverine mech minifigure, the hulk mech minifigure.... the new iron man with a hulkbuster which is basically a mech... ok, I see your point. We could use more comic based sets that aren't mechs.

    Lego’s ruling on what can and can’t be in a set are so ridiculously arbitrary and contradictory. The Lego Daily Bugle didn’t include Mary Jane reportedly because of the MCU MJ, but it did include characters from Into the Spider-Verse a movie featuring classic MJ.

    Simply put, the theme didn't sell well in the late 2010s, and the movie tie-ins to Aquaman, Justice League, and others literally stayed on bargain shelves for years after retirement, because so few people bought them. And Aquaman is DCEU's highest grossing film. Since then we've had the moderate success of Shazam, and then immediately 7 DCEU box office bombs in a row. The only DC film in the last 3 or so years to actually turn a profit was, you guessed it, THE BATMAN, and wouldn't you know thatg got a theme of sets!
    The audience don't see the films, they don't buy the sets.
    Superman Legcay may very well be a reboot of the line, but that's a last hope

    • @the_messageman

    Short answer: No. LEGO DC is not dead. Right now in 2024, they started to make LEGO Batman: The Animated Series sets. I’d like to argue that the peak of LEGO DC is happening right now as the Batman Animated series is the best version of Batman and they are making it into LEGO now. The new LEGO Gotham City set is the best Batman set we’ve ever gotten

      I think some of the reason is although lego has a dc lisence they need wb's permission to create sets. Wb doesn't have much of a kid audiance focus and Batman is thier main focus for adults. So if that's the case they don't want much more then Batman on dc merchandise. Wich is actually wierd and selfish on thier part. If they don't care for much more then batman in the adult audiance let toy and animated shows have them and givving these to kids probley wouldn't hert Batman cause they want that for adult audiance. Wb may try to focus on Batman and atract the adult audiance but I feel puting focus on the rest of dc would still atract the adults even more.

  • @fairamano4657

    The issue is quite simple. LEGO only cares about movies and TV. If the brand isn't popular in their respective mediums, LEGO sees it as a risk. DC has been on the decline, so they don't find it worth pursuing. Batman 89 has always been LEGO's favorite iteration of the character, and the little hype the flash had, was mostly if not only tied to Michael Keaton's return. It made sense they'd refocus that hype of seeing Michael Keaton on screen, with products based on successful Keaton movie sets.
    IF James Gunn's DCU becomes successful, LEGO will most likely go ham on the sets.

    • @the_messageman

    • @fairamano4657
      @fairamano4657 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@the_messageman The issue is LEGO just doesn't care if there aren't movies tied to it. I can't remember where I saw the video, but one of the LEGO Marvel designers mentioned that Movie popularity dictates set selection.
      Batman is the only guaranteed character due to him being one of the most beloved fictional characters ever created. Maybe when there's an anniversary event, they might visit Batman The animated series, but anything other that that, it'll be hard.
      We need Gunn to nail his new DCU. Btw, thanks for the reply!

    I think another reason why Lego couldn’t make movie-centric sets was because the movies kept getting their release dates changed multiple times due to covid and lockdowns. However, The Batman sets were released in North America in Oct 2021 (I think, bcs that was the original release date for the movie), whilst in the rest of the world it was released in early 2022. Even if they couldn’t make full sets based on movies, why not just make polybag minifigures or keychains or Brickheadz?

    Matt Reeves The Batman wasn't exactly for kids entirely either. It dealt with alot of adult things like Suicide Squad did too. The only difference between those movies were the gore in Suicide Squad. But a child could not sit through the entire Batman movie if they tried, since most kids only watch 1 hour movies, if they're watching longer movies they couldn't sit still. Their logic is just very dumb. They could easily make sets based on the comics which i bet would sell quickly. Like there are plenty of awesome new runs in the DC comics which they could make sets on. Like imagine a Ultra-Morpho minifig (as an example), kids would definitely want to get that if they got him right, like there's alot they can do with DC sets if they just wanted to.

    A) Either DC/WB Discovery's Licensing cost is incredibly high (there are a lot of other toy/collectible brands that have far less DC rep outside of Batman)
    B)Either DC/WB Discovery's is very picky about which characters are merchandized
    C) As mentioned in your video/by others, there is little brand synergy to be had either due to more mature films/tv shows (SS & Peacemaker), PR problems with the performers (Ezra Miller), or Box office flops (Shazam 2, Black Adam) and thus either DC/WBD or Lego don't see them as profitable.
    Also another thing to consider about Batman, like Spider-Man, Iron man, or Star Wars, he is evergreen in his appearance. Kids do not know the difference between the Burton Films and the Comics or The Batman or The Dark Knight. They know it's Batman, and they want it. We are finally getting decent superman media but it's target demos are young adults-adults. Shazam and Black Adam (and the JSA) are not popular to kids.
    It's likely a combo of all of the above and it's just frustrating, but what is capitalism if not frustrating.

    • @the_messageman
      @the_messageman  11 месяцев назад +2

      I definitely want more DC sets (give me superman villains lol) but I'm definitely not losing sleep over the corporate decisions.

    • @CapNCorn
      @CapNCorn 11 месяцев назад +2

      Part of it must be WB/DC themselves, which is apparent for one obvious reason: DC merchandise is soooooo obsessed with Batman in general, there's just no way it's a coincidence. Look at McFarlane's toys. Tons of new Batman variants with new detailed sculpts and paint jobs, meanwhile they've been reusing the Bizarro body for Superman over and over again. The line for the Battinson movie screwed up the head sculpt for Catwoman and they actually released a fixed version later. This doesn't happen with other characters. Lego surely has some blame because even a Bat-centric theme should have more variety than constant Batmobile remakes. But at the end of the day, the license holders themselves just aren't interested in marketing other characters very much.

    Just so you know, the summer 2023 wave is based on The Flash movie and that's why Michael Keaton '89 Batman is there. The reason Flash wasn't in the sets was because of the drama around the actor, and LEGO probably thought that they want the characters in their sets to be good role models for kids, and repurposed the sets to Batman. They were Flash sets, and the fact LEGO did sets for a new movie is a REALLY good sign for the future of this theme.

Bc they were really successful when it wasn’t for the films and they could still add the film set under the Lego DC Superheroes line. They make marvel sets for the films and that aren’t movies sets. They could recreate the Dc Superheroes line and create Lego Superman sets, Lego Flash sets, lego Aquaman sets, because if you really look at it Batman has been the driving force for all of the Lego DC sets since 05! There are plenty of DC heroes they can use for new sets! A Lego Daily Planet would be great!

    The problem is that Lego go with the success of a brand. And DC movies… urgh. Even if you like Shazam (not bad for me) Nobody whatched It, every single movie from Aquaman 1 not touched 500 million I think and most of them like 200 million or less. Maybe with the DCU in 2025… Batman sell because is Batman, like Spider-Man for Marvel. These two are evergreen

I believe it can be children very happy and it could solve the problems of minifigure heads being scratched. Wouldn't that be better?

    One issue with any of LEGOs statements can all be disproven with one show: Teen Titans Go. Love it or hate it, it is still currently coming out with episodes, it’s for kids, and no other companies are making licensed toys for it at the moment. Even though it has hate, it is a lot better than just getting Batman only sets. And that the old dc super hero’s theme was made because of on running dc shows.
    Great video regardless

    Shazam fury of the Gods could've taken the eternals route where 2-3 sets could've contained the 6 shazam siblings. Such as a small 10 dollar set with a unicorn and a buildable monster that comes with Billy and Darla. Then a slightly bigger monster build with Eugene, Pedro and Mary. Finally the dragon that comes with the 3 sisters, Billy and Freddie
    Black adam could've had 2 sets
    A buildable atom smasher with a cyclone figure and the jsa jet with Black Adam, Dr Fate, Hawkman and Sabbac
    The flash could've just taken the the 2 batmen sets and instead of joker, had the barrys, kara or even a third set with General Zods ship and include a revamped Zod, Kara and Young Barry maybe Dark flash?
    Blue Beetle i understand, i doubt anyone really wanted the Reyes household but i would've been fine with an accessory pack with Blue Beetle, Conrad Carapax, Victoria Kord, Jenny, and nana who could use reused prints but with exclusive heads.

Where we will show Lego that we still love the 4 Lego Movies that we got, and that we want to see The Billion Brick Race, Lego Superfriends and The Lego Movie 3. As without WB the lego movies won't be as special. So #RestoretheWBLegoVerse.

    I kinda think WB is partly to blame. It's difficult for Lego to do anything with a theme when the license holder doesn't seem to care that much... wb just seems more focused on the harry potter lego theme right now than the DC theme.
    I see WB/DC are more focused on having products targeted for adults right now meaning less Lego DC products... because adults don't collect Lego that isn't batman apparently, according to WB/DC... weird logic honestly.

I would like some solo heroes or justice league set, I’d like different heroes maybe Vixen, Atom, Swamp Thing, Booster Gold, Ted Kord Blue Beetle, Vibe, Miss Martian, Kid Flash, Guy Gardner, Black Lightning, Captain Atom. Dc sets used to be so good in the early days 2015 and 2018 was releasing so many new characters and just great sets, seems they’ve just lost inspiration.
