@@Keith_Petersen_Actor Audra is a coloratura soprano hahahaha are u crazy? a legit mezzo role is Fosca from Sondheim's Passio. Audra could sing violate from Puccini.
@@theoperatripleaxel5417 It's been a long two years, and I agree that she is definitely a soprano now, but not a coloratura. We have little to no evidence of her prowess and flexibility in the 6th octave. I would say a dramatic spinto soprano.
Things I love about Audra Mcdonald Hmmmm lemme see 1- everything 2- everything 3- everything And most of all everything Ps.... Oh my goodness her body is snatched!!!!
Great performance. This is a very difficult song not only because of the singing range but also because it has to be acted out at the same time or it loses its impact. Audra is great on both counts. No one has done it better than Patti Lupone, I have seen seven different Evita's on stage and many other on recordings and Audra is right there with Lupone on this one.
Can you help me out, honestly; can you describe the appeal of Patti? I'm such a vocalist fanboy but I havn't fallen in love with her yet and wish I could.
@@cosmic_pursuit Oh... That's a good question - I'll try my best but it's kind of hard to describe. I can fully understand not liking her vocals- they're not necessarily classically traditionally pretty. But they're so expressive and full of character - she's able to act so much through her singing that I absolutely love. I will say, probably her prettiest vocal, to me, is either Evita or the solo song Meadowlark- although her version of Sunset Boulevard is also excellent. (I'm a fan of Ethel Merman too, if that gives you any indication of the kind of performers I like.) But mostly I just like how much emotion and personality she's able to put into her vocal. And she's really good at songs where she gets to be funny- her Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd and her performance in Company (specifically Ladies who Lunch) are some of my favorites of hers. (I'm also a big fan of Elaine Stritch and Bernadette Peters who have a similar ability with humor, only Bernadette has a much more traditionally pretty vocal than Elaine.) I hope that makes sense. Also totally understand if you don't like her- it's all a matter of taste after all, but yeah, definitely recommend checking out her early stuff. Oh- she's also good in Anything Goes!
@@catherineelmore2004 I can totally see that her strength is in her acting through the song! I get it. Like Glenn Close performing through As if We Never Said Goodbye. I'm gonna check out some of those clips you mentioned!
Horrible. Why?! It’s like Lea Salonga singing Defying gravity. Your voice doesn’t match. You can’t belt to save kittens from a flaming building. Congrats on the Tonys. But you can’t belt. No hate.
If this was your educated and supported opinion, I’d respect it and leave my comment to myself. But since this seems like it came from someone who couldn’t do a quarter this decent on their best day, and/or knows nothing about music on a technical level - maybe you accidentally hated on this cover for no reason
This is fantastic! I wish she belted/sang belter songs more often. Her legit soprano voice is great but her belting is just as good in my opinion.
Billie Davis I agree on every level except that she is a Legit Mezzo, not a soprano
she´s not belting here

She is such a talent. Wow.
It's like a breath of fresh air when a comment section under a song from Evita isn't full of "Patti is beeeeettttteeeeeer" comments.
That was... wow! Audra, I'm a Patti fangirl, so when I say you did freaking amazingly on this song, I mean it!

@@cosmic_pursuit Hope you find something you like! :) Glad I could provide some places to start!
That is such a hard song to pull off. She handled it easily. Bravo!
We are delighted that you enjoyed the performance!
Audra McDonald is absolutely amazing!
Saw Audra in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill in London’s West End and she was incredible!
There's a reason she's won a Tony fir all four actress categories...
PERFECTION.
listening to this song 100 times in a row. 😍😍😍
Best version of this song in my oppinion.😌😌😌
I want her to be the first black person to play Eva Peron.
I SECOND THAT NOTION!!!
+Irina Kermong (cosette-giry) She would have been AMAZING but she's far too old now. Eva Peron had just turned 33 when she died.
She already played Evita. When she was 17
+Ryan Laskey She still can sing the role for a studio album or a staged concert
Uh....Ryan, who cares how old someone is? ...
OMG A LEGEND
Thank you for watching.
wow I have goose bumps I have been a fan for some time now but this well wow
Going to Audra’s concert on Saturday! I really hope she sings this!!
She can do anything!!!!
She is amazong!
OMG she's the first one who doesn't make me long for Patti Lupone! 🏆
SPECTACULAR
wow, a talent like that should be required listening. Come to Atlanta and look me up.
YAAAAS QUEEN! #JustALittleTouchOfStarQuality
I love that she opted down at the end. That’s the baller move. Next stop: Mama Rose.
I wonder if there is a full audio or video of when she played Eva back in 1987?
Queen
I don't think I've ever heard anyone outdo Patti LuPone on this one, but I think she might have!
...nah
Elaine Paige!
Don’t push it...
Holy shit that is so wrong.
Lmaooo no
I'm shook.
This is how it’s done, madonna
😍😍😍😍
Missed Opportunity! She should have been the revival Eva!
Audra mcdonald is just so extra
Her at her least is more than you could ever be.
SHE BELTS TOO???!!!
Who said Audra can’t belt!?!
Don't you guys think she sings it too high? Or like with close throat or maybe it's just the audio
I spent the entire first half waiting for "Ladies and gentlemen, PATTI LUPONE!"
She should have been Eva on Broadway.
A really strong voice. Its rushed however.
This songs need to be belted not in the head voice imo
i wish she wasn't doing the "sing along with me" gestures. it takes you out of the song. and she sounds so terrific.
gays always complain about nonsequiturs
I love Madonna but her version of this song is an embarrassment.

Operatic belt maybe.....probably
I understand why you dislike this cover (and I hate Lea Salonga singing Defying Gravity too), but I disagree.

I disagree. Yes, she mixes the high notes, BUT the parts where she is belting don’t sound bad at all.
Audra was just amazing today at Cotuit Center for the Arts! Most enjoyable afternoon imaginable!
I love her, but this is stylistically a disaster. Évita was never played as an opera diva trying to sing musical theater.
Lupone pulled it off. Mcdonald gets close but isn't as good.
Too fast.....

that's fast...and I loved it haha
You think so? The tempo feels fine to me. 🤷🏿♂️
Yet another example of why opera singers shouldn't sing pop songs.
This isn't a pop song you know that right?
@@Donara8706 But it's not for her though.
You are an unqualified idiot. Your opinion is not asked for nor is it valid. Go. Away.
