One of my favorites. "I never saved anything for the swim back" was a good line. As far as this video, there's a quote from the movie Adaptation: "you are what you love, not what loves you."
I loved him in Mystery Date and Gattica. He ends up, every so often coming up with some really interesting and surprising characters. Reminds me of Crispen Glover at times. Of course I have to mention Explorers from when I was a kid, and you can't pass by Dead Poet's Society. All great stories.
Ive only just discovered Ethan Hawke... (I know, where have I been??) through the film Maudie, and Im rapidly falling in love with him, especially his older self... what a sweet, ingenious guy
In terms of dialogue and banter between two characters, the trio of 'Before' movies are quite possibly the best ever made. And of course Boyhood was a fascinating film. Spending 12 years to follow the same actors and getting them to film scenes ever year is positively epic. So ya, I agree they're awesome :)
+Hannes Radke I think a system shits out that which over stays it's welcome , one of the symptoms of such; being over stimulated and fixated on simple, singular concepts
+Hannes Radke I've never heard of a mental pathology or any social dysfunction based on someone making too many sweeping generalizations . In fact , being good at making generalizations is what people pay you for
I think Ethan Hawke meant innovation and breakthrough. TV shows in China is fucking horrible and I think it's mainly because everybody in show business tries to play the safe card. They plagiarize popular shows. There's not a single bit of originality in it. You just can't see efforts in these kind of shows. Same thing happens in the electronic games world as well. Everyone is making the same kind games except a few true innovator who have passions and visions.
everyone says 'you know' at some point. i sure like his delivery of the advice waay better than your recapitulation of it, though, random smug youtuber.
You geniuses think every good composition is sprung from someone who's trying to fit in? He's saying if you want to be an artist you have to risk failure. How many can say they do that for a living? It's narrow minded to attribute artistic articulation to weed or drugs.
I love this guy. Also, as far as I'm concerned, the rest of Ethan's career could be just "Before" movies. Like, five or six more of them. Until Jesse and Celine are these two old farts complaining about everything. ;)
Apparently so. I think it's also sexist to point out that women aren't lining up for degrees in the harder sciences or for positions in the less desirable jobs.
Yeah but movies are sort of dumb most of the time. I mean really, how many movies have really affected you in a lasting positive way? I can think of maybe three: Synecdoche, Cloud Atlas, and Jiro Dreams of Sushi. But when I really think about it I'd probably be no different without them.
"A good artist is ridiculed"
Never regret clicking on an Ethan Hawke video
He's my favorite actor ever since Gattaca.

Ive only just discovered Ethan Hawke... (I know, where have I been??) through the film Maudie, and Im rapidly falling in love with him, especially his older self... what a sweet, ingenious guy
That was inspired. Thanks for this!
I'd love to meet him, he seems like he'd have the best stories to ever hear while getting stoned
that was from the heart. its change the whole concept of dignity in our todays society
Probably my favorite actor
Ethan Hawk - I love you! You are an inspiration ❤️
Love it. I heard somebody say not so long ago "What are you afraid of? People laughing at you? It's better to make people laugh than cry"
Excellent advice ⭐
This guy is awesome. Richard Linklater and him make the best movies.

I know homeless people on my route that talk just like that
Speaks to their wisdom then, I guess.
If a system shits you out, you really get to know how it looks on the inside ;D

Donza Thompson Yes, and sweeping generalizations.
+Hannes Radke I've never heard of a mental pathology or any social dysfunction based on someone making too many sweeping generalizations .
In fact , being good at making generalizations is what people pay you for
Fantastic 🌟
Great video! An artist's job is to simply hold a mirror to society.
Did he just step off the Nostromo?
haha that's good.
is an alien going to pop out of his chest?
being original for the sake of originality is detrimental, be average or better than average, and have that become the new average.
It works both ways.
The most badass lamp you will ever encounter. not really, no one intentionally emulates the bellow average

***** I meant it works bothways: Being original for the sake of being original and naturally bettering the average.
Listen up, it's training day
"Gimme the money Jake..."
Ethan, whatever that is, Iemme get a hit of it
Christian Slater is right, everyone should be unique!
Mr. Hawke do Gattaca 2!
lol. you know?
but I must put forth the assertion, nothing done is new under this sun. Be you boldly. Be there courageously.
You know? lol

Bro, hit me up with a job. My middle name is Original.
You can tell he just smoked some weed and this is his latest revelation.
thank jesus for weed
you're childish and immature
PREACH!!!!!
Awesome

This is related to why most of the Darwin Awards winners are also men.
Isn't it sexist to be bothered by the fact that it's mostly men? 🤔
Apparently so. I think it's also sexist to point out that women aren't lining up for degrees in the harder sciences or for positions in the less desirable jobs.
+Rand Huso regarding what ethan said,it's probably also down to the fact that men are more prepared to make fools of themselves in general
Good point.
I forgive you for being in The Core and other horrible films.
he wasnt in the core
+Pwasma Dwagon Oops it was Aaron Eckhart not Ethan Hawke...
Because reality bites
sugar ray?
