How I would've saved this episode? Maybe making more explicit that Ren is doing some nostalgia filter on his memories (which is why he's okay with Chuck), but showing him unkowingly trying to control his temper Once Chuck reveals his true colors, have Ren snap and have the biggest of freak outs in revenge, kicking Chuck out of his house and life; in here we could've had Stimpy calming Ren down who starts breaking down in shame. Stimpy says that Ren will never be a loser to him and rather that biting him in the butt, have Ren be sincerely touched by Stimpy. As Chuck sheepishly asks if he can get in, both Ren & Stimpy scream at him to get out as they keep hugging
I remember when Rocko kinda did a plot like this. It was about Rocko’s bully from Australia coming to visit and how in the end it was to apologize for all the crappy things he did! Woulda been nice if this episode had mainly been a flashback scene and it had been more about Ren trying to get back at Chuck with Stimpy’s help.
The whole episode looks quite different from what the very first episodes and seasons of the series used to present. 1) It lost that mid 50's vibes 2) Both Ren & Stimpy do not act accordingly, it is as if they were adapted to those 90's standards. 3) The episode is very boring and highly predictable.
I would say this is the worst episode of the show, but since Road Apples exists I guess its just going to have to settle for second place. Actually at least Road Apples has that funny joke where Ren tries to cross the street and immediately gets hit by the car, so maybe this one is worse. But really this is just more bland than outright bad. The animation is really poor here, I wonder if they farmed it overseas to some crappy third world country or something. And if I want to Stimpy in a black cat suit I'll watch the Bad Juju episode. The painting still of the dogs playing poker, is the only thing I remembered from this when I watched it as a kid.

Meanwhile, the episodes that I remember disliking as a child have often fared much better when I have revisited them as an adult.
School mates is one of the worst episodes in ren and stimpy imo. First, the concept compared to other ren and stimpy episodes is very weak. Second, the plot feels cliché and the episode has terrible writing. Third, I hate how ren and stimpy specifically ren is treated in this episode like its just a bullying ren and stimpy episode. Fourth, Chuck is a very unlikable character much more than the old lady in it’s a dogs life tbh, he is very mean spirited towards our main characters and I hate how once he remembered that ren is a wimp he just ditches him for stimpy making him feel left out. It really makes u feel sympathy for ren from the scene where he flashbacks to his college days that chuck is a bully, but ren doesn’t realize it and thinks he is the problem. It makes me mad and sad at the exact same time. You pity stimpy in the first half of the episode then u feel pity towards ren in the second half of the episode and I hated that. Its not even that sad of an episode its just aggravating. Its like if the middle part of dog tags was an episode, but stimpy is involved with ren in this mean-spirited bullying process. Fifth, the animation is awful to look at in the episode imo, it looks boring and ugly and the bland background colors doesn’t help. Sixth, I hated ren’s design in this episode. His expressions are mostly ugly and every scene has ren drawn in a weird way that doesn’t feel like u are watching ren, feels like u are watching another character with the same personality as ren. Moreover, Billy wests voice acting as ren is weak imo in this episode. Lastly, the episode is not funny whatsoever and is boring with a pinch of aggravation mixed to it. The only thing I liked about the episode is one expression and one detailed shot and that’s it. The ending sucks. imo it’s just another one of those endings where the writer can’t come up with a way to end the episode and picks the most confusing way to end the episode. The ending feels more of a cliff hanger than an actual ending like what happened to the chuck problem. All an all a terrible episode and will never come back to rewatch this mean-spirited garbage of an episode ever again. 0.5/10
i actually like a lot of the hated episodes, like "Dogs Life". but this one is pretty bad, in that its just boring and poorly made and not that funny. I do like the poodle cheerleaders though. But not much else to say about this.
Pretty lame episode; the plot is extremely generic, the character were poorly ugly drawn and just unnecessarily mean. The humour also sucked; it's either forced down your throat with no subtlety or it's low brow like the butt chomping, stunk gassing and implied public urinal drinking. The only thing I liked in this episode was the detailed shot, but one good frame can't fix this boring mess of an episode. I'll give it a 1/10

Ren would not tolerate that from anyone else. So it is surprising to see him let Chuck walk all over him like a doormat.
