What did you think about the XPS 13? Would you buy one even if it is an older model?
with an eGPU it is very versatile and has more graphical power than m1 stuff.

I bought one this year for my study from 2018/9 and it is really nice... the thing feels so modern /nice!
I bought this laptop in like 2017. I use Autocad on it. I Program (PLCs and HMIs), I have 2 displays on a docking station. Anyone that is using this for their job won't be disappointed unless you are doing some kind of advanced graphics development.
Well for student's who don't need to use high capacity programs it's definitely worth to consider buying an used older laptop.
Dell machines are great for running Linux, and this machine is no exception. I have Ubuntu 22.04 installed on a core i7 model and it runs great -boots up in about 7 or 8 seconds.
I still love my XPS 13 9360R. It's fast, lighter than most others and durable af. Btw you should degrease your one asap.. it is not polished by use. it is grease from the owner. my trackpad looked the same and after a good clean, it looked like brandnew.

The 2017 8th gen i5 XPS 13 is a great laptop even today. Superb fit and finish, lovely to use, killer screen with decent contrast and rich colours, keyboard is decent, touchpad excellent. Welterweight, small footprint - lmost like a hardback novel. Speakers are perfectly fine. Webcam SUCKS - absolutely fucking atrocious/useless. An old model like this will almost certainly need a new battery ($100), but that's about it. Boot time has always been a bit slow at ~17 seconds (5 years of trying to improve it, gave up - still not bad), and it runs DAWs, Davinci Resolve, RX10, etc., with few glitches. It's solid, svelt, and perfectly usable in 2023. Another laptop in the house is a 2021 Microsoft Surface laptop, which is also built like a tank, but it's comparitively heavier, lacks the svelt curves, has a larger footprint, and a less colorful/contrasty display. Safe to say that the 2017 8th gen XPS13 is a killer used machine.
Wow you disseminated valuable real experience information! I'm gonna buy an xps 13 9370 with a core i7 8550U and 16gb ram with a 4k touch screen.but I'm still skeptical 🤔 I wanna use it for DAWs like studio one which is cpu intensive task and sometimes editing in premiere and maybe in future start to learn blender as well. I don't know if I can count on this laptop or not. It's second hand and offered for 400$.
My friends keep saying buying a second hand laptop is wrong and risky.
I just got one new in the box for 299 only 4 Ram and 128 GB I5 upgrade from old dell xps l321x that still works ... I'm Ballin on a Budget ...
Bought one in 2017, still using in 2023. So far no issues except battery.

I literally got one for the exact same reason, cyber security, I’ve had mine for over a year now and yeah it’s amazing for just about anything besides graphic/CPU intensive processes such as rendering and gaming
for a day to day use laptop, this is great. I recommend repasting the thermal paste if it’s getting too hot, as it may not have been replaced in a long time

Hey man, do you think this computer can run a music production program?
Absolutely it can. Running Studio One Pro with plugins/instruments, and it's fine. DAWs in themselves aren't that demanding on a laptop. For moderate use, it's glitch free.
@@robinwatson4282Aw glad to see a Studio one user here! 😍 I had an HP with a core i5 4210U and running Studio one on it was awful. When I was using Arturia Synth, the cpu monitor was hitting the peak level easily. Now I'm about to buy an xps 9370 core i7 8550U. Do you think it is worth buying a second hand machine?
