Cos Canon wouldn’t allow that to work with their current attitude towards third part lenses on R series bodies. You could use Tamron lenses on Canon R bodies with the RF-EF adapter so you need to update the lens firmware straight onto the lens.
This is off topic but always intrigued me, how do you do to take pictures while filming (example- 5:20)? Are they frames taken from the video? I thank you in advance, it would be something that could help me immensely in the work I intend to do... if anyone here knows the answer I would be very grateful
Software allows you to select a frame, though he is not using film as you mentioned. It's all digital. If it was film, that would be easy, just scan the frame you want. Too many people use the word 'film' when talking digital. So incorrect. I know a lot about film, I have buckets full of film strips of pictures I took in the 70s through 90s. Digital is so different, it's not film, it's not grain.
Makes me question my decision to purchase (a month ago) a Canon 90D. I got the 90D with the kit lens (EF- S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM) and purchased the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM. I’m interested into landscape, wildlife and macro photography, so I wanted to purchase another lens from Tamron or Sigma. I’m contemplating on what to do.
I use the Tamron 100-400 on EF mount. It's a brilliant lens for Landscape and Wildlife. However you have a lens with very similar focal length already. You could look at primes. Like the Sigma Art 70mm Macro Or when I had a 80D I used the Sigma Art 18-35mm f/1.8 A great lens if you find yourself using the wider end of your 18-135mm a lot. You get the benefit of brighter aperture but you do lose the IS. With you having coverage currently from 18mm all the way to 300mm The question I would ask would be, what focal lengths do you enjoy shooting at the most.
I do own both (Canons 18-135 and 70-300 usm) lenses for a 77D and addes the Sigma 60-600 AND the Tamron 18-400.. The Bigma is the Sports and Wildlife winner. The Tamron, out of these four, actually lives always readily available on my body. For the best lens is the one allowingvyou to take the shot. Used it indoors as well and held up pretty nice. Brillant lens for your 90D. Stabilization less strong, so shooting sharp takes somewhat more technique and attention.
Question: I am interested in this lens and I have the a7iv. When does the iso become “junk” on a Sony? I want to shoot more photo and I know shooting video at 60p the iso gets too grainy at 20000. I just wanted to ask the max iso I should expect especially if I want this lens (I don’t have 10k plus to put into a long range prime)
Ok, so i own the sony A1 and had R5 in the hand and i dont know what ergonomic issues is he referring to, because i felt like the R5 actually had worse grip than the A1. Also important to say that i am 197 cm tall (6,3ft) with large hands.
I would not use that in the rain, since you have moisture in it days after the shoot. Water always finds a way. That is why you see loads of lenses second-hand sites taht have moisture in them. Even pro-level tele ones. Liked the review, but careful with the rain :)
How come you don't talk much about the Sony 100-400 GM? They are becoming more widely available used, so I think it's a viable option at this point. Looking at this, the Sony 100-400, and the Tamron 150-500.
@@froknowsphoto also why the a1 instead of a7iv? I would think people going for that 50-400 would be more entry level shooters .that can't afford better glass
I'm afraid to use a iso over 1000. Holy shit 3200?!? But I guess that's a full frame advantage. But on apsc there would of been a ton of noise. And how come you didn't test the lens on a apsc body?
Nothing wrong with noise. 6400 is pretty standard at concerts and 10,000 is common for indoor sports. Mirrorless cameras are good with noise and Topaz Labs software cleans it up even more.
Not considering AF, price, nativenes and stuff... Just by artistic abilities I'd rather stayed with my 70-300 f/4-5.6 (70-90 f/4, 90-135 f/4.5, 135-240 f/5, 240-300 f/5.6), than 50-400 almost exclusively at f/6.3...
Most of what you say in the review about this lens (how ISO will climb, etc.) is just obvious from its specs and could be said about any lens with such specs. Sure, it's not 400mm 2.8. What would be really interesting to know is how it compares in sharpness, stabilization, and AF to other similar lenses. i.e. Sigma 100-400 and Sony 100-400 GM. How much (if at all) the performance at 100-400 is compromised as a trade-off to the addition of 50mm at the wide end? By the way, the USB port is not just for the firmware, but also for customisation of the 3-way mode switch that you never use, but could nevertheless be useful for some people ))
What are your thoughts on this mega zoom lens?
If you could pick any lens to shoot a bike race, what would you choose? 70-200 f/2.8?

have you seen the size of the sigma 200-500 f/2.8 lens?? 1000mm f/1.0 zoom would need gravitational field corrections given how massive it would be

Like the Sigma Art 70mm Macro
Or when I had a 80D I used the Sigma Art 18-35mm f/1.8
A great lens if you find yourself using the wider end of your 18-135mm a lot. You get the benefit of brighter aperture but you do lose the IS.
With you having coverage currently from 18mm all the way to 300mm
The question I would ask would be, what focal lengths do you enjoy shooting at the most.
Nikon DX + Tamron 18-400
Will the Tamron 70-200 be great with the nikon Z50?
I like what you said at 14:30. Made me laugh
Lots of little dirty jokes in here. Very nice. I shot Nikon for years as Jared buried them. Switch to Sony, now Jared is burying them. I can’t win.
Haha. Typical cycle for photography gear.
How do you get the video then the snapshot without pulling a frame grab in post?
Question: I am interested in this lens and I have the a7iv. When does the iso become “junk” on a Sony?
I want to shoot more photo and I know shooting video at 60p the iso gets too grainy at 20000. I just wanted to ask the max iso I should expect especially if I want this lens (I don’t have 10k plus to put into a long range prime)
you could head to dpreview's test scene and compare the ISO performance of different cameras
That 400mm photo looks great at 1/250th of a second
Need this for Fuji apsc
i was waiting for this video from u sir ♥
Dam it !!!!!!!!! Now I want one
14:27 I don't know how you said that with a straight face 😂.
Ok, so i own the sony A1 and had R5 in the hand and i dont know what ergonomic issues is he referring to, because i felt like the R5 actually had worse grip than the A1. Also important to say that i am 197 cm tall (6,3ft) with large hands.
thanks for sharing.
Nice green shirt. ❤
14:28 I’m sorry Jared. #rawtalksomething
😂
U got some great photos
Is possible test lens for Sony a6400?
I would not use that in the rain, since you have moisture in it days after the shoot. Water always finds a way. That is why you see loads of lenses second-hand sites taht have moisture in them. Even pro-level tele ones. Liked the review, but careful with the rain :)
My favorite lens.
also the Tamron is smaller than the sigma eventhough the zoom range islonger on Tamron, thank you for the nice video
You are a very good videographer.❤❤
14:24 Just click on the time code without context 😂😂😂
How about this lens vs. the Sony 70-300? Near same price and a little faster.
How come you don't talk much about the Sony 100-400 GM? They are becoming more widely available used, so I think it's a viable option at this point. Looking at this, the Sony 100-400, and the Tamron 150-500.
Sonyalphablog compared it to GM. Only slightly worse on the long end.
14:28 I know, i'm childish 😄
First! Viva la Nikon! Z 400mm /4.5…. I’m a lil’ bias but 50-400mm is nice tho
😂two pulls and I’m done
"I wanted to get a straight shot of the men coming right in my face." - Jared Polin 2022
Can these lenses be made for Canon bodies, esp. the mirrorless (using the adaptor, of course - can't annoy Canon now, can we?)?
But how’s the Pentax feeling in the hand Jared?😉
I love how the baby Silverback had its feet crossed when drinking water. Babies are Babies and do cute stuff with body language. :)
Are you shooting auto iso? It seems you can change zoom and shutter speed pretty fast for bike race
Nope. Regulated to. Didn’t like it as always.
@@froknowsphoto also why the a1 instead of a7iv? I would think people going for that 50-400 would be more entry level shooters .that can't afford better glass
"The men coming right at my face"
Haha
all trve photographers must play with their lenses ;)
Newbie question: can you use this on a Canon body via an adapter? If not, what's the closest lens for canon? Thanks a lot.
No you can't, the longer flange distance on canon cameras physically prohibits such conversion.
I recommend going with RF 100-500
I'm afraid to use a iso over 1000. Holy shit 3200?!? But I guess that's a full frame advantage. But on apsc there would of been a ton of noise. And how come you didn't test the lens on a apsc body?
Nothing wrong with noise. 6400 is pretty standard at concerts and 10,000 is common for indoor sports. Mirrorless cameras are good with noise and Topaz Labs software cleans it up even more.
Can you use a teleconvertor?
No :(
Hmm… 🤔… interesting title… one question remains… when is the movie “Lord of the Lens” coming out? … and will it be a trilogy?😂😂😂
If this lens is half as good as their 18-400, it should be a brilliant lens.
great video
Not considering AF, price, nativenes and stuff... Just by artistic abilities I'd rather stayed with my 70-300 f/4-5.6 (70-90 f/4, 90-135 f/4.5, 135-240 f/5, 240-300 f/5.6), than 50-400 almost exclusively at f/6.3...
Just went to wedding in Doylestown,Pa cute little town.
14:25 ??? did i hear that right?? LMFAOO
Hahahahaha, after two times that means your playin' hahah, just brilliant
Most of what you say in the review about this lens (how ISO will climb, etc.) is just obvious from its specs and could be said about any lens with such specs. Sure, it's not 400mm 2.8. What would be really interesting to know is how it compares in sharpness, stabilization, and AF to other similar lenses. i.e. Sigma 100-400 and Sony 100-400 GM. How much (if at all) the performance at 100-400 is compromised as a trade-off to the addition of 50mm at the wide end? By the way, the USB port is not just for the firmware, but also for customisation of the 3-way mode switch that you never use, but could nevertheless be useful for some people ))
14:28 "Give me a straight shot of the men coming right in my face". Phrasing
Would have been nice to see a comparison between the Sigma 100-400 and this Tammy.
In the real world it’s not easy to do that.
@@froknowsphoto Very true
