I recieved councilin from Tony Adams charity after I finally admitted to being abused during my time playing football as a young boy. I can't thank Mr Adams enough for the help I recieved from his charity. I'm still trying my best to over come what happened to me but the help I recieved has gone a long way to help my recovery. Thank you.

Alcoholism is a lot more deeper than just drinking booze. Alcohol is the solution to feeling chronically uncomfortable and irritable on a daily basis. The first step in recovery is accepting you have a problem, denial nearly killed me. I'm 8 years sober now thanks to AA. Big TA is a legend. Day at a time.

I'm Irish and it seems the drinking culture in Britain is very similar to here. Binge drinking is seen as "having the craic", everyone makes jokes about alcohol to hide their fear that they may have a problem, and every social event always has alcohol. Plus, people start drinking really young.

@Oliver 2000 Sounds like you could be on your way to alchoholism and I would say that is too much drink for someone of your age. I will drink every day. I will drink up to 13 pints on an empty stomach and have black outs. I wouldn't say I was an alcoholic but I would say I have a drink problem. Now is a good time to get out of the habit. Drink is habit forming and I have been drinking heavily for a couple of decades. Get advice. Change your behaviour, change your friends. Not easy as our culture is set up that way, as you say

@@milo04 do you feel anxiety if you don't drink? because I know that feeling. You have to find another way to distract yourself and fill your time, it's as simple as that! Yes, not so simple maybe, but you have to find another way to keep anxiety (or maybe you call it boredom) at bay. Try cardiovascular exercise like jogging; getting your heart going and pumping a bucket of sweat out is irreplaceable and you will feel peacful afterwards. Your legs will be sore at first for a few weeks when you're not used to it but that passes and then you will have a new healthy addiction to replace your unhealthy one. And yes exercise is addictive but it's an addiction you have to earn

We get a perverse pleasure from nailing ourselves to a cross. We get a perverse satisfaction from feeling we are victims. We tell ourselves we met the wrong people in life, we came from the wrong family, we married the wrong person, we tell ourselves if people would only treat us differently. I could write the list add infinitum. We are always the victim. We get a perverse satisfaction from feeling sorry for ourselves. We believe that we are correct most of the time in how we see things. We are inherently negative in how we view life, people and situations. We focus on the negative as a default. As this negativity grows inside of us we become increasingly more disillusioned with life and become more destructive to ourselves, our relationships. This soul sickness progresses within us. We push everybody away and the dis- ease (we are ill at ease with ourselves) within us increases day by day.
We can face these facts about ourselves and begin to understand that if we don't take action, we will ultimately destroy ourselves. The truth is we are sick people who have lost the ability to make rational healthy decisions for ourselves (in the beginning).
You have to stop drinking despite yourself. Misery loves company is a saying that makes more sense when you start getting sober. When you put down the drink, you will be swamped with negative thoughts telling you that 'you can't do this'....'your good enough'...'you don't deserve to get sober'...'your a bad person'. This is what we call the 'committee' or the 'monkey on the shoulder'. Your illness will tell you everything it can to stop you succeeding. You must ignore this and begin to supplant it with positive messages especially when you don't believe it. After time, day in day out you will being to start to believe there is a way out of the forest. As it was negative messages that got you into this sick state of mind its positive messaging that will get you out of it. You go to AA meetings and share the negative shit in your head and keep talking. You need to stand up and get a backbone for yourself. Stop being a victim and stand up. You have to stop drinking despite yourself. Misery loves company is a saying that makes more sense when you start getting sober. You will have enough suffering for the first year to keep your inner critic pacified, It starts with baby steps, and bit by bit by bit you become stronger. The negative voice becomes weaker and the positive voice becomes stronger. Go to an AA meeting. Don't mons the God stuff. There's plenty of atheists in AA. It's a support first and foremost. You take what YOU what and leave the rest. AA is a menu. You pick what you like about it and leave the rest of what's on the menu for others to pick from. Now stop being a fucking victim. Good luck

The reason I was such a great teacher was because I was drunk most of the time. I just couldn't teach sober. As with most alcoholics, your luck eventually runs out, which mine did. I can no longer get a job on the college level because of my alcoholism.

Everyone has demons to an extent I'd imagine, I do. some have more severe issues than others, and it's very sad some have to turn to the bottle to deal with what's troubling them. Fortunately for me, It never even pops in my head to drink, just not my way, but everyone is different. Best of luck to Alcoholics out there and take care x

I’ve abused Alcohol to do my Job,in my mind I think unless I drink I can’t do it. And be drunk. I hate the way I behave when I’m drunk but in fear being myself sober. I’m scared. I want to quit my job but don’t know what to do really. I’m tired of being hungover and depress. Praying for better days 🤞🏽

I hung on for many years, hoping something would work. Finally, i became willing to listen to someone else who had found a solution. He advised me to put aside all the beliefs and biases i had about people and the world. You cant fill a cup that is full. I went to an AA meeting everyday. I took a real interest in my recovery; I took up my old faith; I got down on my knees and prayed as he advised; I went out into the world and tried to help others without reward; I was reborn. My life now is better than the best life i could have thought possible for a guy like me! That seems crazy but its true. Good luck with your journey :-)

    • @eamonnmurphy5385
      @eamonnmurphy5385 5 лет назад +4

The thing is, alcohol is not the problem, it is the solution. Tony was probably on the wrong path long before he ever took up drinking. Alcohol dealt with his guilt and remorse, his feeling that he was empty inside, that he was missing out in life. His problem could have easily been gambling, sex ,drugs or anything that separates him from himself for a while. The solution is to seek to change as a person through a 12 step program. Tony has found a new way of life that makes sense to him, it works, he feels he has great purpose in life and is happy to be exactly where he is now. So there is no ongoing fight, he just has to keep doing the things daily that give back to society and to his creator. that is the great news that he displays here. Life really only started for him when he was reborn in the spiritual sense and it seems to be a much better life than he ever could have wished for! Sobriety is great fun you know :-)

Is it a money situation thing then?? As for Wilshere I really liked him, the shame about him is he's never on the bloody pitch always injured. When he started out at 16 years old I think he was he was great, run Barca's midfield off the pitch in champions league. A real shame but because of his injuries he was never gonna get game time so he left. If and a big If he stays fit and gets a run of games he could be great for you.

that’s a shitty comparison - heroin addiction gets you within 5 straight days of usage. 6th u wake up sick, and you use once again to end the flu, then you’re in, then it’s daily use until you either use every day until you die, or you have to quit, and that’s the point, derox is so severe you can’t stop.
alcoholism is bad once you’re physically dependent - but that’s the thing with alcohol, it takes severe and long long term abuse to get physically addicted. my own mother drank for years and years every night, and she could stop for lent and the only detox was boredom, depression, and insomnia, nothing on heroin.
i mean it srsly takes like a bottle of whiskey every day for about 3 years before you wake up in real detox, and then alcohol detox can kill you, tremors, hallucinations, sweats, insomnia.
but again my point is that alrhoughrr alcohol is physically addictive, what they have on their side is that it takes so much for so long, and every day.
in other words, it takes a real good and constant usage to get to say george best style addixtion, or amy winehouse.
these ppl were addicted to alcohol lkke a heroin addict is addicted to heroin.
George best would wake up and be jn the pub for 10am, and out by 12am, that’s real alcohol addiction, and by that point you’re waking up with your hands shaking,:- same with winehouse - she would wake up (CCTV), off license, and she would down pure vodka like she was drinking water, i remmeber seejnf that footage where she bought a bottle and downed it in front of the shop assistant there and then.
That’s a real alcoholic, Jim morrison was the same, 3-4 bottles of whiskey a day. These ppl have to drink to keep away the detox symptoms.
but lastly, the comparison to heroin is very different, these alcoholics drink spirits for years every day and it takes a long time to feel detox.
heroin takes 7 days of constant use and there you go, you wake up with the worst flu of ur life, and i’ve been addicted for last 5 years now -my parents think i’m sober because i’ve been to rehab and i’ve been given so
      much methadone and subutex
subutex works very well. Just 2mg under tongue, and each detox symptom start to fade within 30 minsk.
The shits and cramps slowly stop.. the the sweating starts to stop, then the freakish symptom of not being able to comfy in any position, that ends as well... it was a miracle.
the cold chills seemed to hard to stop, they remained for weeks even on subutex...all this, and i had stopped taking it, and back on heroin - not only heroin has you physically, it’s mental addixtion, even being physically welll finally, you’d think you’d stop, but now i’m still on heroin with a stash of subutex for when one day i wanna stop..that’s how an addict thinks
i can continue using heroin now because if i ever run out or can’t afford it, as soon as the detox starts i have subutex, so i’ll never ever withdraw again.
In america subutex costs £100 a week, NHS in uk j have a mssskve stash that costs guess.... £0.
      Good ol Nhs

@@humanforfreedom9583 :You have not got a clue what you are talking about,I am not trying to be mean to you mate, but if it was that easy, people would not be dying with the addiction, plus another thing with heroin is you are CRUCIFIED socially, people look at you like you are not human or you are just a piece of shit on their shoe, and that makes it even harder to keep away from,I know all about the type that would be patting drug dealers on the back while looking down their nose at you, that is where the problem with heroin addiction lies and until we truly understand what a person goes through,we won't have the slightest clue how to tackle it.

Never drunk alcohol apart from once in 1995 when I was a teenager , funny my father owned an off licence but being from an Indian background but especially my parents never really drink or smoked
I remember back in 1995 when I had a can of Budweiser and my friends and I played a video game where we had a mini tournament and I knew I was the best
However the Budweiser impaired my motor skills and I lost quite early on
I never forgot that and to this day I still remember it. Alcohol just needs to be banned along with cigarettes and drugs needs to be a serious custodial time like Thailand
