@@user-lm1il8oe4v Militia are very good targets for Line Infantry to demonstrate Fire by rank, aren't they? 😎
@@TotalWar1vs1Hey is this Battle Mode? If yes, I wanna know how to use fire by rank in Battle Mode, thanks
@@Hello.Madness Yes, this is Custom Battle. You set the "Time Period" to "Late" instead of "Early", then you'll get Fire by Rank.
@@TotalWar1vs1 Thank s very much
@@Hello.Madness You're welcome!
Researching fire by rank and canister shot is my #1 priority in early game. Good times in Empire.
Me too👍
With square formation and naval shore
That and the more advanced bayonets
I would prefer the agricultural and research ones! First to get the additional towns before the end of the world conquest and second to research the rest of technologies faster! Especially since I begin most games by conquering the new world, mainly natives and ungarded towns who cannot fight back anyway
Fire by rank is close next though, especially to get an advance on other europeans nations. As soon as I get new universities!
Is canister shot strong? Thought artillery sucks in this game
Ngl, the sounds of muskets firing at once is kind of satisfying imo
😈👍
The sight is too
Play war of rights…..YOUD LOVE IT.
@@pnklysmooth9888 100 hrs
@@Anonymous_Gentleman I agree. Also, the Prussians sound very manly lol.
I'll never get tired of seeing line infantry fire by rank.
👍👍
After awhile it gets pretty boring and repetitive seeing it. I enjoy skirmishes more when they fire all their volleys and reload
I Love this Game. We really need an Empire total war 2
ME too 👍
There is a mod
Fr
try "Empire II" mod
We live in it and soon you will too
Imagine seeing this in battle and still needing scientists (gentlemen) to help you figure it out afterwards.
😅
It would still take time, training and discipline to get the men to train adequately in the new style of fighting. Yeah, it looks like just shooting and taking a knee to reload, but getting everyone to do it all at the same time in sync to keep up a constant rhythm of constant fire is no mean feat.
@@blueleader102 rank and fire has essentially existed since antiquity with bows and arrows too. Mass firing has always been more effective than single. Either way, it's just a joke my guy.
@shibity How *DARE* you joke about such refined battle tactics? There is nothing more sophisticated or advanced than the study of standing in a line an-wait. Hmm. Mmm. Mmhmm. Yeah, I see it. 🧐
@@blueleader102 lol you're the best
Here’s what you do.
Give them two sets of volleys, then charge the rapscallions!
😈
Just as the great elector intended.
Darth Mod will fix the musket fire to a more realistic musket crack. Also the game won't crash after you launch an invasion of 6 fleets + 6 armies onto a new continent for the hell of it. For Poland!
👍
Where can you download it reliably now?
@@jagotiberan2181 moddb
All darthmod did for me was un balance the unit sizes and make the minimap look worse 😅
Absolutely loved Empire total war
😈👍
I remember being 7 convincing my mom to buy me this game (my first was Rome total war) and how much fun I had on it. Safe to say I was not like other kids.
👍👍
Empire and Napoleon massively need a remaster. What would be amazing is if they did an across the board remaster of Empire, Napoleon, and Shogun 2.
I think an all-new game is better than a remaster, that's why I need Empire 2, Shogun 3
@@TotalWar1vs1 this is true, but these days I feel like CA has become more focused on regional conflicts as opposed to full world maps, at least initially like what they did with the Warhammer games and Pharaoh with how it’s basically expanding into Troy.
I sometimes wonder if Thrones would have been more successful if it would have eventually expanded into a new Medieval series under a different title.
Boy i wish they made another total war in this era.
Me too 👍
I love this tactic, far superior to platoon firing. Only wish the high level infantry would still use it
Just don't research Platoon Firing, elite infantry still use Fire by rank
Yea and thats perfectly viable, but if you want an army of royal guards you'll be firing by platoons and it would be great to have a choice. Still a great game with many great strategies and tactics
@@jackmiller861 👍
while this is far more lovely, apparently platoon fire does have more output. But morale-wise this beats it by far
@@redhausser7492while i agree platoon fire does sustain a higher rate of fire, nothing can beat highly organized rank fire. the possibility of 100s of soldiers firing immediately when the enemy is in range all while backing themselves up with multiple other lines can and will overwhelm the enemy. on a secondary note the small formation shift the regiments undertake to allow the platoon firing wastes precious time and disorders the line as a whole, which needless to say is a detriment little validated by the positive's.
Bring games like this back CA WTF is ancient Egypt when we had masterpieces like empire and medieval
👍
I mean let’s not imply that ancient Egypt isn’t a really fricking cool setting. You might prefer another time period, but any setting has the potential to be a good game if they actually make the game good lol
Empire was never a masterpiece lmao. To this very day, the game is broken
@@Fyrdman At that time (2009), it was actually a masterpiece
@@TotalWar1vs1 It wasn't. It was a broken piece of shit, even back then. I remember playing it when it first game out, and remember how broken it was before the patches came in. Not like it's that much better now. But God, it was a trainwreck upon release.
I wish they kept this in Napoleon, even as an option like 'fire and advance'
👍👍
it is in napoleon
@@Suprshortman Fire and advance is, fire by rank isn't.
@@rcco4556 it might be because i use darthmod but i can see my soldiers kneeling down😭
give me 10 lads with AK 47s and 2 tanks, then I'll flatten them
😂😂
😈
I had forgotten the satisfaction it gave you when you developed that technology: your regiments practically became meat grinders.
😈👍
it's sad that there isn't this much choice in napoleon
Yeah, I'd love to see Fire by rank in Napoleon
Right? Like they didn't even need to add the other continents just more of the Europe map like how you gonna cut out Egypt and the Middle East
@@TotalWar1vs1they removed it because it was too buggy but you can use it with mods like NTW3 or Darthmod
@@cav6969 Okay 👍
Fire by rank is not historical for Napoleon
The fact they got rid of it in napoleon should be a crime
sounds like shooting farts. Darthmod needed
😅
I love how later in the research tree the game forces you to use platoon fire which is in every way inferior to fire by rank.
You can destroy all universities before researching Platoon Fire
The smoke effects in Medieval 2 were so much better, as where the sound effects for the guns and cannons. I want to know if they just wanted them sound different or if they just lost the files/codes or whatever and had to start from scratch.
👍
Love these games but I wish they replaced this with firing by section. There's no evidence for firing by rank actually happening nor is there a practical application
You mean Platoon Fire?
@@TotalWar1vs1 Yes, I didn't see that until I started watching more of your channel. Glad to see it in the game, I should put some more time into that one. Love the content!
@@TotalWar1vs1 I started reenacting as a British Grenadier in the American War of Independence recently so I guess I'm a little more nitpicky with the representation of things in media lol
iirc the French did use ranked firing drills; although afaik it was only ranked for the opening volley, after the first volley they'd just transition into firing at will; afaik it was used to make it harder for the enemy to find an opening to charge.
I think the main reason it's in the game is because it is easier to make it work than other firing drills.
As for firing by section; depending on your definition it is either already in the game as platoon firing or it is the unused "mass fire"
all your battle lines are already divided into sections just by nature of the TW system, so not really a point in having a special drill for it.

If Fire by Rank were available to Imperial Hangunners in Warhammer 3...

Как же мне нравятся в Империи Тотал Вар анимации боёвки.
But not melee combat animations, they are buggy
I did a reenactment of Gettysburg. Boy oh when the volleys are real there's no sound like it...
Because Empire total war is just a game in 2009
Always bothered me that platoon fire was actually slower than fir by rank, at least for full strength units
Yes👍, it wastes the rapid reload of elite units
I love warhammer total war series bc of background, but old mechanics such as gunfire in historical series were made much more accurate and prettier. I love historical series too btw xD
👍
Sooooo much potential this total war had. If you've played any other total war. You know what I mean.
Yeah, Empire have the biggest campaign map
With darthmod this sounds even more epic
I haven't tried this mod yet
Almost lost a fight last night to the Maratha Confederacy because I found a glitch where after all three ranks had fired they wouldn’t reset and were just shouting “ready” every quarter of a second.
Which unit did the Maratha have? Do you remember?
afraid not, unless you know if an ability they have, i am confident it was a glitch. it was very strange but the enemy units were stood right in front of my troops and they couldn't reload lol @@TotalWar1vs1
@@centaurable I believe you, battles in Empire are buggy
Haven’t really tested if fire by rank is better than platoon firing but fire by rank just seems much more badass
Actually, Fire by Rank is worse than Platoon Fire, I tested it. But Platoon Fire will waste the fast reloading time of elite infantry.
how do I make them sit down with every shot??
Would be cool if there was then an upgrade on this tech where the ranks advance as they fire like the scene in the film Zulu
here you are: ruclips.net/user/shorts__x6kIXi0-Y
The orginal game has it
After 10 Trillionen Years Empire now seems to work :D
😅😅
After never playing the base game and only with darthmod, hearing the musket volleys fire sounds so weak and underwhelming
Iv been playing with darth mod so long I'm no longer use to how small vanilla units r😂
I haven't tried Darth mod, which number is maximum per unit?
Now post it with darthmod instead
Every totalwar had a tech tree after empire but none of them were as engaging nor as impactful as this one. This game is worth playing even if its just for the feeling of having technological supremacy over your rivals and the sense of progression
You forgot "Canister Shot"
Darth mod...... Awsm
I haven't played this game since it's release. I was kind of disappointed with it back then has it gotten any better?
Nothing change for several years. Those bugs still there but overall, it's good enough for me to enjoy
Awesome
Thanks
greatest total war game of all time (imo chill lol)
In my opinion, it's Shogun 2
Definition of satisfaction:
😈👍
what mods do you use? My Line Infantry is only 75. How can I get it to be more like yours?
I don't use any mods. You come to graphic settings, increase the "Unit Size" to ultra.
laden! FEUER!
😈
The only thing i like about this Total war to be specific is the sounds of muskets firing and the moving remind me of the age of empire 3 so satisfying but i hate how the campaign map looks honestly
Why? I think campaign map looks good, bright and detail
@@TotalWar1vs1 bright yeah ...but i like the way Attila and Rome Camping map looks like more details better texture xD this one seems like made out of lego or something
Attila and Rome 1 look OK, but Rome 2 looks like cartoon
This is interesting, though not necessarily historically accurate. The Swedish and French had some experimentation with this, Sweden seeing some success, though the latter fire by platoon was the much more common system adopted by most European powers.
👍
Gee golly, I wonder how they do that
Hey Jimmy, research how to do shooting by each column. I can't get my head around it
😅
Fire by rank changes gameplay significantly. I destroy enemy units. They rarely have a chance to cause any casualties on my side.
Yup, my 1st priority in campaign is to research Fire by rank
@@TotalWar1vs1 definitely worth it.
Such advanced technology
My campaign always becomes easy when I get this tech
Fire by rank needs more then three ranks of men in my opinion
I think 3 ranks are optimal. If there are more, the 1st line will wait too long to fire again
The last total war I played ❤
Napoleon and Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai are similar, you should give it a try
Did they remove this in Napoleon because I've never seen line infantry fire in files
Yes, there is no Fire by Rank in Napoleon
It's weird to hear "Fire!!" with German accent, and not hear mg42
Once prussia gets square, it’s game over. I take about 1 region per turn after that.
Square formation? Hmm, Cannons: "forgot me..."

Top useful ability in Empire total war
At last !!!!
yeah when it doesn't glitch out ;_;
What is the glitch?
How great was historical total war i was a fan for 21 years now im 28 and quit total war from the dissapointment and i just cant believe the route they went down they had their own genre of gaming and flopped how great they could have been if it didn't become A cash cow funny thing is they would have made more money if they still loved there historical franchise RIP TOTAL WAR you will always be in the original fanbase hearts ❤❤
Me too, I prefer historical & old total war games. I like Rome 1, Medieval 2, Empire-Napoleon, Shogun 2 the most and I'm 31 now. I think most players at our age don't like Warhammer series
Fine I'll go play my 15th empire campaign this week
Which nation are you playing?
Ngl looks cool
👍
Fun fact they stoped doing this because sometimes the guy behind would shot the guy in front in the back of the head because men have the tendency to close their eyes and turno away their face from the musket when they fire
That's why in reality, most nations didn't use Fire by rank at that period.
The spacing between lines shown in this game would be inherently dangerous to start with. Smoothbore muskets can be imagined to fire in a sort of cone. The farther away from the end of the barrel the more widely that ball could end up straying. So if you wanted to fire by rank in real life you would get up very close to the next rank, practically standing over their shoulders. This was another disadvantage at the same time because it made your formations a much more concentrated target.
@@user-yy3gm2ub2i I think the spacing between lines in this game is appropriate. If sodiers standing too close together like you said, they would be deaf soon because of the muskets sound
Can the first line shoot and the get back so the second line shoots ? Like in medieval 2 ?
No, they cannot. But they have "Fire and Advance" which is somewhat similar: ruclips.net/user/shorts__x6kIXi0-Y
I’m being nit picky here but you did not see the rounds light up orange like that in real life
ruclips.net/video/VdSVpRyk6AY/видео.html
We can see the rounds light up orange in reality
If only Empire wasnt as buggy as it is.. Great game though.
That's why I hope Empire 2 coming soon...
with what unit do you did it? I tried it out but couldnt find the button for fire by rank? or is it only avaiable in online battles?
There is no button for Fire by Rank in Empire total war. It's a technology, you have to research it first, then it's automatically ready for use.
@@TotalWar1vs1 but I cant find it in normal battle mode vs AI either, or is it only avaiable in the campaign mode?
@@TotalWar1vs1 or do you use a specific mod for the fire by rank? because I cant find it in the technolegies either, help pls I am too stupid ;(
@@Luke-mp5xi Take it easy bro, I'll guide you. You look for "Time Period" section in custom battle settings, set it to "Late". Then enjoy your Fire by Rank

More decisive winning for the Prussian
British cant keep up with Prussian efficiency
Because I used British Militia. British Line Infantry could be a big challenge for the Prussians
do they auto fire like that? or do we have to specifically command them to do that
You have to research "Fire by rank" technology first, then Line Infantry & Guard Infantry can ultilize it automatically. Noted that: Militia and mobs cannot ultilize Fire by rank.

This really represents prussian discipline. Very satisfying

Nice
Thanks!
Fire by rank was never actually used. The first rank kneeling and the second firing as well at the same is all I could find. I honestly prefer Napoleon having only one rank fire.
Um yes it was actually. I'm a military historian not only was it used during the angalo Zulu wars with the breach loading Martin Henry 303 British round but was used by local milita units units against the British during evening and daytime attacks.militia aren't as well trained and disciplined most times as regular army but there were MANY of them who had fought during the french and Indian wars. They didint always do a Mel Gibson patriot style ambush they used fire by rank on occasion when the situation dictated on more than a few occasions
not frequently in standard pitched battles, where 2-4 ranks were considered good before artillery starts becoming a problem, and the men could fire in 2 ranks standing, 3 if the first rank kneeled and stayed kneeled
(during the napoleonic era)
@@ronal8824
Yes I'm aware but I'm not speaking of that war I'm speaking of the Zulu wars
Fire by rank was standard in the entire pike and shot era so this is definitely wrong. I am not sure when it was phased out exactly but yes it was used. Not only in Europe but notably in the sinosphere as well.
Hou you get 160 soldiers in one line ? Ik have al pagget s but i dont have a big line 160 ?
You go to graphic settings, find "Unit Size" then set it to "Ultra"
Idk why but on easy mode I pull a soviet union and charge my men into the enemy
Because Russia Line Infantry have the best charge bonus and melee skills in this game
Too robotic. But nostalgic
👍
Ho dou you have succes good graphicq
I turn on max graphic settings
this is why dodging has been invented after 1800s
After 1800s, the guns were much more accurate. No need to stand together to increase the mass of fire.
@@TotalWar1vs1 Isn't standing together more to raise moral and counter cavalry?
@@pikapika8294 Yes
@@pikapika8294That and command and control. No radios invented yet so grouping the men together like that was still the best way to do it.
Fire By rank is good to use all lines
But in open battles my strategy is normally to spam Line Infantry And extend it as much as possible
Great Burst Damage by the cost of being a vulnerable to charges, but damn it sure is fun to see those units falling in just one shot
But it's hard to maneuver all these Line Infantry
@@TotalWar1vs1 in Vanilla Empire not that much
You want to use your lines as spread as possible, and those that arent fighting head to head, flank the ones that are
So the flanks start falling and You start making their units retraat or kill them, it works for me, Even if the enemy. Has more trooos
@@flaggy185 OK, got it
This actually wrong. 3 lines. Most backward line reloads. Two in front take turns firing
Even though I love napoleon total war I don't get why they didn't have fire by rank in it
Maybe it's OP in Empire so CA decided to remove it in Napoleon
where is medieval 2 gun sound
Hmm, I think it's not better than Empire total war
why dont you use darthmod?
Because I prefer the original one
I wish this was in Napoleon total war
Me too! A bit frustrated...
Nice, that doesnt work in Napoleon iam going to check it out in Empire
I made this video in Empire total war. It worked!
I love this game, but I can’t deal with the AI. The AI would rather charge the front line instead of firing at them and I’m like you have fucking guns use them, but they don’t they rather just charge so I haven’t really no reason to be afraid of enemies armies. I can literally in this game take on three armies with only one stack and come out victoriouswith bare minimum casualties
When the AI predicts that it cannot outgun you, it'll decide to charge into melee combat

👍
In side view, is it a misfire by the first soldier? If it is, I've never noticed such a detail
Yeah all muskets have a chance at misfire, researches like percussion cap and other such ones decrease the chances of misfires, if there is a misfire the soldier takes longer to fire, therefore, less fire down range, therefore, less dead enemies, therefore, more bullets flying back at you.
I once had a battle where two line infantry units fought and mine had no misfires on the line but the others had a good chunk, they lost men and had to delay for men to fill in the gaps as my second line fired, needless to say they lost many dozens of men in the first crucial seconds of battle due to misfires and being unable to put lead down range.
I won that fight with considerably less losses then they had.

This game is so great but so freaking slow. The battles and the campaign map takes so long to complete. Longest total war game IMO
Just like history, battles at that era were slow too
