You really nailed this aesthetic! With regards to the mirror, I always think those pieces that look like they are from an older era, they actually lend authenticity to the era you are trying to replicate - because it’s really only in the 21st century that people seem to want to do a clean sweep of their homes when redecorating. My British great-grandparents and grandparents favored a very pronounced streamline moderne aesthetic in their kitchen, but it was nuanced with older, treasured bits. Overlapping eras make your aesthetic look a genuinely historic home, as opposed to a stage set.
I'm so glad you said that because I thought the same thing! It was hard to find images to decorate off of because they weren't just 1920s, they were mixed with so many other items from other decades
For anyone wanting to paint or wall paper their refrigerator, most fridge doors are designed to come off with just a screwdriver. This makes it much easier to carry to your work area and/or work more ergonomically. You can also switch the direction in which the doors open to make it more convenient for your space. Fancier fridges might not have this option but the ubiquitous white rental fridge usually does!
If there's one thing I've learned from this, it's that I'd rather have a cute small space instead of a boring large one! Keep up the good work, you're very inspiring.
I love art deco and I think your area looks amazing. I love the green paint color and the gold highlights really bring it together. Utilizing some of what you already owned is key to people learning how to blend new with old. To recycle a previously owned item, into a new atmosphere, helps encourage others to do the same. Less waste and a great way to save money.
A vintage milk glass schoolhouse pendant in a Deco shape would look phenomenal in there. I'd paint the piece on the opposite wall (the candleholder) gold. I actually liked the gold velvet curtain. You said it looked too circus-y but I always associate the 20s.and 30s with circuses (think "Water For Elephants" aesthetic.)
Believe it or not, we decorated this way in the 80's. I loved Art Deco style and when it started going out in the 90's, people were left with all this gold hardware on doors and cabinets and gem tones painted on their walls. There were a lot of curves and soft lines in the furniture. But alas times changed and so did decorating tastes. Now here it comes back again! Embrace your favorite style and don't worry about the trends...That's the lesson I've learned now that I'm a lot older. (I still love Art Deco and the color "teal". ;-)
Great job and great choices! Horizontal wall = horozontal art & conversely verticle wall= vertical art. Many would not have furnished their entire rooms in one era.
Wow! What an eye! You did an amzing job of glamorizing the kitchen but keeping functionality. I want to tell you that contrast not the darkness of your colors makes a room feel small. You keep working it!
Now it's warm and inviting, and seems cozy. You could put two small lights that shine up in the corners if you want more light. Maybe you could hang the tasseled curtain across the doorway to the bedroom or bath.
Your video popped up on my feed and well, I'm all about a good makeover! Just wanted to say you did an amazing job, the stencils really brought the walls together and that dark green is perfect! small spaces are hard to get right and you did a really great job, you should be proud :)
Thank you for saying that 🥹 I was unsure it looked good when I finished because I was working on it for so long. Appreciate the positive feedback 🫶🫶🫶🤍🤍🤍
This all looks just fabulous!!! Whenever I work on a small space...I like to think, "Jewlbox". Stunning, perfect, pretty, one-of-a-kind. I think you accomplished that! ❤
I liked it, too, but Parisian Art Deco is my favorite interior style, so no surprise there. It just needed to be ironed/steamed to get the wrinkles out, and it would've hung more appropriately over the window.
just cruising by looking at decor vids & when i saw the green paint & ur plans, i thought eek! dark creepy gothic. BUT it looks amazing! its not dark & gloomy at all. its warm, interesting, bright & welcoming. & very 1920s!
thank you!!! 🥰 I've really fallen in love with the green! It's taking all my willpower to not paint my bathroom the same color 😅 I also love that you think it looks 1920s 🫶🥰
Love your choices! Love that you painted everything instead of buying wallpaper or cutting wood for the trim. Gorgeous fridge! I’m a huge fan of this art deco era too, also the shift between Nouveau and Deco which could be more 20s than 30s… or between WWI and WWII.
You could get theater light gels in stained glass colors and accent certain key elements in your tea light holder to give the illusion of stained glass.
Wow, your kitchen renovation journey is truly inspiring! I love how you're transforming the heart of your home into a beautiful and functional space. Your attention to detail and creative ideas are incredible. Keep up the fantastic work!"
I love how that sharpie wall turned out! I've been thinking of doing similar in our master bedroom. I've decorated it in Art Deco and some Art Nouveau. Lots of authentic pieces and art work really bring out the vibe. Beautiful job you've done!! 🎉👏🏽👏🏽
We did the same thing with Green paint in our living room. As soon as we finished with an Olive Green, we hated it and immediately ran out to get a darker shade. Repainted in S-W Sherwood Forest Green and I’ve never been happier with a paint color.
The very best one thing you did, besides the entire composition? The pattern YOU conceived and drew on the wall -- chef's kiss to your talent. Only so you know: The ceiling light fixture is called a Sputnik, it's from the 60's, and a. Cross-pollinating decade-to-decade is something the best designers do all the time, and, b. It's form goes beautifully w the 1920's look. Also: I'm on less firm ground here, but: Generally, L-brackets are 180° and they're attached to the shelf from the bottom w screws short enough not to penetrate the shelf, but long enough to get a good grip.
Beautiful makeover. I’m wondering though, if a clear acrylic (thin) strip of.molding at the top of your painted wall, where the green pain meets the white ceiling would give the ceiling a more tailored look? I know that the eye rarely goes up that far, but sometimes it does, and a black or gold molding might give it a “boxed” look. We inherited ceiling molding in our very small space, and I’m now the biggest fan of putting molding in that space rather than leaving it blank. But, everything else is great!
Unlike the wealthy, normal folk can’t usually afford to do a clean sweep, so there would usually have been items from previous eras. I really love so much about your design choices. I’m working on an Art Deco bedroom and was planning to do a similar idea behind the bed with a stencil, but at the top of the wall. I may reconsider doing the full wall after seeing how you did yours. I may try doing the use of cardboard, instead of the rather expensive stencil. I’m really impressed with how you changed the pattern on the sides. I’m going to rethink the whole wall now. I found your video, since RUclips suggested it and “Art Deco” caught my eye. I’m going to subscribe.
An art deco bathroom would be so cute!!! I hope it turns out amazing. The diy wall is so affordable, I’m going to try and do it in more rooms too! It’s just too easy. I hope you give it a go! Goodluck with your makeover 🥰🥰
I am obsessed! It turned out awesome! The gold design on the back wall is such a great idea. If I were you, I would spray paint the tea-light holder gold and then paint the wall that it is hanging on the same dark emerald color that you have on the fridge. I’d also spray paint the cabinet pulls and door hinges gold. Minor details, but you might like how it looks. Anyway, I love how it looks❤❤❤
Lanche! This is amazing! I've always wanted to see what you could do without a bunch of rental restrictions and you outdid yourself! Also fun seeing you reuse pieces from previous makeovers, like the mirror from the DA living room.
This is lovely. I had the idea to change my kitchen for a while to Art Deco. So this wa a good inspiration. One thing I would do is varnish the fridge. It could do with a little shine.
I've always wanted to pain my refrigerator black to match the other appliances🖤 The issue is I have a built in ice/water dispenser... You e given me inspiration💡
if you wanted to add more light maybe find one of those flower petal lamps that you could put in the darker corner or a small one for the table. I love that dark green and I think the whole thing turned out really nice.
These are some very nice accents to a plain kitchen. I like how the stencil came out. Since the gold is reflective, to bring more light to the dark green side of the kitchen, it would look good if you continued the stencil around the corners onto the side walls in a sort of waterfall effect.
This is absolutely stunning! You are so talented and have a good eye for the right accessories. The pictures are gorgeous and the nook where the table and chairs are look like a little cafe. I've never seen anything like this. Thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait to see your other videos. Yes, I subscribed!
It looks great! A couple small tips, try using real gold foil paint for your frames instead of spray paint, it looks so much more vibrant & for the art look into Louis Icart prints, his art is the epitome of Art Deco period.
I love the DIY "wallpaper" design. I am redoing my upstairs bath and I wanted to do a wallpaper and don't want to spend a lot so your gold marker is a great idea. I think I love the fridge the best.. the green and gold handles really look great.
Yeah so I am judging and I say youve created a win. I can see myself chilling in that space with tea or coffee (or a nice brandy) and just whiling away a late afternoon chatting. It looks comfortable and clean and I like. GG
I’ve been working on creating an Art Deco home as well I have “Capital Green” and it looks amazing and similar to yours. I have been working on my kitchen thank your for the inspiration. You did a kick @ss job and I love it.
This is such a gorgeous upgrade to your space. I’d say the green took it to a whole new level! Very intimate and welcoming like entering a queen’s personal tea nook or a movie star’s secret alcove! There’s hardly anything I could give feedback on. Even the beautiful clock looks like you rescued it from an ancient library or some regal public space. My only suggestions are as you acclimate to the space, some other light touches can be added. For instance, why not paint a goldenrod and gold leaf accent wall underneath the delicate plant holder?this would start from the floor and arch around the plant holder, giving the piece a little more weight without adding expensive details like wood. Then putting gold leaf on the metal bits could echo the gold leaf on the green accent wall. Basically I imagine an archway hugging the arched contour the plant hanger. The almost ginko leaf styled green wall is is such a powerful statement, I’m feeling like the opposite wall could balance this out and give your eyes something to enjoy as you enjoy your meal or sip your tea. Perhaps a feather motif painted over the arch would give it more depth and make previous flat walls interact more with the space, bringing dimension and depth. The feather motif could be in palest pink like your feather decorations and could drape elegantly just outside the line of the arch. Also, how about dying the curtains with synthetic fabric dye? You could do an ombré with gold on top and pink on bottom to give it a custom luxe feel. It would tint the sunlight coming through the window with a subtle color that would soften the window just enough so you don’t have the visual contrast of extreme dark green and then white light from the window and it would always have the romantic golden hour glow to burnish your skin as you sit across from a friend or lover. My last suggestion is to pay homage to the art deco flair for embossing almost everything from perfume bottles to architectural details, why not employ some illusion and paint in the lines with a bit of lighter and darker paints to appear like the details are carved into the surface? You can add black and white to the existing greens you already have. I would paint a test piece on a piece of cardboard first to be safe. The art deco period artists were masters of the bas relief. If you google it I’m sure you’ll get mega inspo. You may consider this a wrap on this beautiful “one of a kind” remodel and I really respect that. You’ve done an excellent job making something from virtually nothing. Such a magician! I absolutely love it!! 💕 💗 🥰💗💕
Yeah after completing the room I was wondering if the curtains would actually look fine in the space, I would like to find better curtains then what I have now, they don’t feel fitting to me 🤣😭
Why after all your choices is the circle you spontaneously decided to paint on the ceiling my fave detail? It really just tied things together. I feel like the arched tealight holder can also be its own moment, in time. Turned out lovely
Yay! Someone someone sharing their Art Deco-inspired space. Interesting that Hunt Club made your space feel smaller. I think dark colors make walls recede more than shrink, as a general rule. I think it's what it's paired with that changes that effect, so suspect the white on the walls, ceiling, cabinets, stove, and floor contribute to that. Enjoy those stencil designs. I've seen that green/teal shell wallpaper in circulation, and came across a gorgeous kitchen refurbishment that had it on their ceiling. What software did you use to make your room mockups? That said, our entire basement remodel has an Art Deco color influence, due to hubby wanting an Art Deco inspired theatre room. Our hall is a dark teal (20% lighter mix of SW Cascades,) and it doesn't feel smaller at all, just more moody. The walls and ceiling both have the color on it, mainly due to all the jutting edges from I-beams, ductwork, and plumbing running through the ceiling. The trim is red oak stained with General Finishes Hickory, and the doors are stained the same. The flooring is engineered cork planks in a similar hue. The teal and wood look beauteous together, and create a feel like a theatre foyer. If anything, the hall feels longer, and the unattractive ceiling edges are far, far less noticeable. Since I'm a color junky, I'll share the rest of the colors we chose. All are SW Emerald Matte, or BM regal select matte. The Behr is whatever their highest grade flat paint is. Theatre: SW Tricorn Black (front walls, ceiling, baseboards, and tray ceiling,) SW Folkstone (middle and rear ceiling,) BM Peatmoss for rear walls (where the kitchenette/concession stand will be,) and Behr Ultra Pure White for screen. Let me state right now that Peatmoss has a wonderfully deep Art Deco vibe. It's a challenge to find examples of it in use, but to my mind's eye, it's related to brick, but is toned down with a grey-red-violet base. SW office: walls BM dupe of FB Paean Black, ceiling BM Sea Froth. The FB dupe aged the space as soon as the second coat was on. Our house is a 1960's ranch, with the main floor staying truer to its decade. Many of the walls are brush stomped on main floor, and basement; when combined with this black plum hue the basement office feels like another era, even with the trim being original to the house's construction. Btw, we had to replace the baseboard, due to foundation & wall work that was done. It was hard to salvage. Sea Froth is a very light mauve, not white, and creates contrast without being harsh. Hall: SW Cascades 20%. NW office: walls SW Dried Thyme, ceiling SW Shoji White. Like you, it took my husband a number of tries to find the wall colour. He chose one, lived with it for a few months, decided it wasn't the right one, and the search resumed. Something similar happened with the ceiling hue, but was a more immediate change. Flooring: theater Amorim Identity Nightshade, hall & offices Amorim Identity Chestnut. Theatre baseboard is a tall, sawtooth style, like the 1262 ornamental moulding one can find on Home Depot's website. It's could very well be the same, just through a different vendor. We haven't tackled the bath yet, and we haven't changed any of the hardware on the doors. Just changing the colors everywhere made the metal finishes transform. Going to paint swatches in bathroom between now and New Years. In the areas tackled, we used a ton of HUE lights, so we can control the colors, brightness, plus have the theatre lights automatically dim or brighten whenever someone sits to watch something. Will bring in desk lamps into offices, and are casually searching for wall sconces for theatre. Thanks so much for sharing!
I'm definitely going to look up some of these paint colors, paint has been a real struggle for me since I finally have had the opportunity to use it. I can tell you put a lot of detail into making your space perfect. I love that you kept the red oak trim, sounds so beautiful with the color combinations you mentioned. I use procreate on my iPad for my mockups! I'm sure there is a much easier way I just don't know what it is 🤣 If you were looking for some Art Deco wall sconces, I found some really good ones on Amazon that are battery operated (they are pricey IMO but good option if you don't want to hardwire or have available sockets for plug ins) amzn.to/3RZzmc0 amzn.to/3TBSjCw

Edit: this video is what made me subscribe! ________________ I finished the video and it's all really gorgeous! At first, i doubted the giant candle holder in the back kitchen wall at first, then seeing it zoomed out with all the little plants 😊 what a lovely sight. You did amazing, and this video was inspiring to say the least :D
thank you so much!! I know, I didn't think it would work either but it turned out so well with the plants. I'm just happy I didn't have to buy something to fill the space 😅 Thank you for supporting my channel!! 🥰🫶
I love it! I’ll never drift from my maximalist vintage boho dark academia but anything vintage is good. Definitely much gooder than IKEA Hobby Lobby. 😂🤎 I raised Waldorf (School) kids and now I have Walmart grandchildren. Life can be cruel.
Wow this is great. I love the Deco style and you did it so well. I am very inspired. My parents were in that era and I have always liked it. Great Gadsby and all.
I am madly in love with your makeover. It is impressive to say the least! I don't judge you, I applaud you! Well done 🎉 ✔👍 First time viewer here, and day one (4 me anyways lol) love your work! Can't wait to catch up with all your other videos lol 🍿🤗 so please keep it coming, I'm watching hahaha. Take care and happy new years to you and yours. God bless 🥳🥂🎆 Xo 💖😘
Very inspirational! Maybe change out the light bulbs in the pendant chandelier for Edison bulbs? Anyway, far better than the original boob light. Enjoy the beautiful space you’ve created.

This is so helpful! Love seeing your process before and during.
I'm inspired by you. The way show did the whole makeover, you show all your trials and errors. i liked it
I love the DIY "wallpaper" design.
GG
I had a poker night here recently and it was SO FITTING in this space especially with 20s music 😭😭 so glad you like the space 🥰🫶
@@justlanchen lol omg poker night I didnt even think of that...perfect ❤
I’ve been working on creating an Art Deco home as well I have “Capital Green” and it looks amazing and similar to yours. I have been working on my kitchen thank your for the inspiration. You did a kick @ss job and I love it.
The fridge looks amazing. 👍
Thank you so much!!
Looks great!! You did an excellent job!!
Thank you so much!
This came out SO GOOD !!! , Great Job, nice colors, outstanding
You nailed it! You are such and amazing an extremely talented woman Lanch, bravo!!! 👏🏻
Thank you so much!! 😭🫶🫶🫶
👍🏻Great inspiration, I’ve been wanting to do a room in this theme. Was afraid of the dark color but I’m going to go for it.
Love your creativity!! I loved the gold curtain you first put up. It seemed to tie everything together.
Yeah after completing the room I was wondering if the curtains would actually look fine in the space, I would like to find better curtains then what I have now, they don’t feel fitting to me 🤣😭
Impressive! That fridge is great! I painted mine with black chalj board a few tears ago but the green is wonderful!!!! Amazing all around!🎉🎉🎉🎉hny!
I absolutely love your makeovers. The budget friendly ideas are a big plus!
Thanks so much! 😭🫶
but hey a sponsor is a sponsor, mad props to you!
Love it so much!!!! I'm currently doing my bedroom art deco style after months of planning 😊 love your channel ❤️
Great job! What is the program you used for the mock up?
I used procreate!!
Why after all your choices is the circle you spontaneously decided to paint on the ceiling my fave detail? It really just tied things together. I feel like the arched tealight holder can also be its own moment, in time. Turned out lovely
Hahah omg I love that you love that!! And the tea light holder ended up being the perfect item on that wall with the plants. I loveeee it
U did a phenomenal job 👏🏽 ur kitchen looks lovely!
Thanks so much! 😊
Maybe you should do a video about your transformation? Sounds gorgeous! 🎉😊
I'm sure there is a much easier way I just don't know what it is 🤣
If you were looking for some Art Deco wall sconces, I found some really good ones on Amazon that are battery operated (they are pricey IMO but good option if you don't want to hardwire or have available sockets for plug ins)

I finished the video and it's all really gorgeous!
@@justlanchen It is my pleasure! Are you running with art deco or going eclectic?
Awesome work! I love the wall with your design. 😍
And the plants in the tealight holder ID genius.
Your new kitchen is stunning. Bravo!
Glad you like it! 🥰
I love it! I’ll never drift from my maximalist vintage boho dark academia but anything vintage is good. Definitely much gooder than IKEA Hobby Lobby. 😂🤎
I raised Waldorf (School) kids and now I have Walmart grandchildren. Life can be cruel.
Wow this is great. I love the Deco style and you did it so well. I am very inspired. My parents were in that era and I have always liked it. Great Gadsby and all.
I am madly in love with your makeover. It is impressive to say the least! I don't judge you, I applaud you! Well done 🎉 ✔👍
First time viewer here, and day one (4 me anyways lol) love your work! So of course I had to sub, like, and share.
Plus I like how you don't just stick to one esthetic, but rather dive in and tackle a vibe. Loving that diversity for sure.
Can't wait to catch up with all your other videos lol 🍿🤗 so please keep it coming, I'm watching hahaha.
Take care and happy new years to you and yours. God bless 🥳🥂🎆
Xo 💖😘
Very inspirational! Maybe change out the light bulbs in the pendant chandelier for Edison bulbs? Anyway, far better than the original boob light. Enjoy the beautiful space you’ve created.
Yes! I plan to get some but I only had the led ones at the time of filming this. I have to so many I need to buy 😭
LANCHEN!!!AMAZING!! Kisses from Croatia, Zagreb :)
Thank you so much 😭🫶
Wow!!! That is a gorgeous makeover! I love it.

My first time seeing your video, it popped on my feed and I’m so glad the fact that you’re a fan of BioShock )because I love that game as well.) is all I need to subscribe. Can’t wait to see more of your videos.
Oh, Amber- hell yah, we love you and ...Goddess of Gems!!! ♥️♥️♥️
I love art deco! Check out American Horror Story Hotel, the Cortez's lobby is full on art deco, its was based on the Cecil Hotel in LA.
I just googled photos! you are so right, even the poster screams art deco!
It turned out so great, wow!
