In this video I will be giving my living room a dark academia makeover. I created an entire backstory for my living room and at the end you will see an ode to my DA character, a short film of sorts, to bring this space to life. (Intoxication staged)
I will be creating a "Kill Your Darlings" book page inspired wall, a DIY ornate gilded mirror, DIY gallery wall and more. I am so excited to share what I have created and I do hope this inspires you to transform your room too.
⚠️PSA: The candles in this video were lit for filming purposes only and I do not advise you to light your candles in the same way! Please opt for flameless candles (I listed the ones I use below) but If you do choose to light candles in your home please do it safely, never keep them unattended or near flammable items such as books, sheets, ect. ⚠️

Just wanted to add a quick PSA about the use of candles in this video.
I am in no way advising anyone to light candles in the way I choose to in my video. Candles were lit strictly for my shots and were blown out after.
If you do choose to have candles in your home opt for flameless candles (this is what I use day to day) and if you do choose to have real candles, Please use with caution, do not leave candles unattended at anytime and keep them away from anything flammable.

I live alone in a five bedroom, 3000 sq ft house, so I have a lot of space to work with. While I fully agree with your interpretation of "dark academia," my aesthetic is both dark in its literary undertones and in its color scheme. You channel is inspiring me to get moving on it and be done with the new-construction all-one-color scheme. And I'm developing a "character" who lives here, partly real and partly fictional, to help me bring it all together. What a great concept.

wait a backstory and a character for a space is such a good idea for a makeover.. i always have trouble sticking to one vibe and ive never thought of doing that before but i feel like it would help make everything way more coherent!
It definitely helps a ton. That way when you’re considering what to add to your space you can just think, would this character have this and why?

But I'm working on it, I got a big wooden cupboard and a bedside table, and I practiced writing with ink. My room is already fully furnitured so I don't have like a blank template. I do have two ikea moppe bureau to paint and fix. 😁

I just discovered your channel and I love it! You use Alien tape quite a bit for hanging things. I bought some thinking I could use it to create a gallery wall, but the directions say not to use it on painted surfaces or it will pull the paint off and ruin the wall. Have you had that experience in any places you have used it?
WAIT WHAT!! I swear my packaging doesn't say that but yes it has ripped off paint and DRY WALL!!! When I used it on latex based paint it came off with no damage but when I put it on matte acrylic the dry wall came off with it.
I've stopped using it entirely on my walls but I do use it for other things still

I don't think we are very much alike, but I love books and I love what you have done with your books.
I must be a vampire because I am not into mirrors. But I have wondered about making a distressed antiqued looking mirror surface. Maybe sand paper the back around the edges or apply mirror to glass but over oilly edges or dime such to make the rims of the mirror more oblique or crackled or dome thing. Just my imagination. Maybe there is a way.

Oh yes! I’ve done that before and it’s beautiful, creates a nice warm tone. The only reason I didn’t do it was because the color of the pages I found matched the gray walls well 😅

I know it's popular right now to hide the back strip spine of books but I prefer to see them. It tells me alot about the owners of those books and just looks correct to me. But that's just my opinion. I understand people are doing this to create color balance and minimal visionary noise. ❤️🙂

Yes..white tac would have worked wonderfully and it would have been easier...if you use white tac ..it leaves no marks
