In this video, we take you to the best Christmas markets in Belgium, Europe to visit in your motorhome that are open throughout the festive period into the New Year.
Many Christmas markets across Europe, including the famous Christmas markets of Germany and France, close in the run-up to Christmas. However, there is a secret place where you can enjoy a festive tipple of warm Gluhwein or a warm food treat from the many food stalls, in the snow-topped chalets of a Christmas market, a romantic ice-skating date, or purchase a hand-made artisan or craft gift for your loved ones - in Belgium. Less than 3 hours away from Calais, with many options for accommodation whether you are travelling by car, train or motorhome (campervans, camping cars, and RVs included).
There are some special places to visit at Christmas and for me, Belgium is right on up there! From the folklore, and history, to the more magical traditions like drinking cherry beer or warm gluhwein under the twinkling lights of a Christmas market. In this video, I will be counting down my personal Top 5 Christmas market destinations all under 3 hours from Calais. Make sure to stay until the end to see where my top spot is and let me know in the comments which of your favourites that I missed.

We've been to Bruges but never at Christmas, I'd love to go to Belgium Christmas markets! (You kind of had me at cherry beer!!). What beautiful Christmas markets! The food looks fabulous. Each market has such beautiful surroundings. What a great way to get into the Christmas spirit!

Honestly you won’t regret it. We loved Belgium and I would definitely go back 👍 There is so much to do and see. After the fun of Christmas we enjoyed new year then came back to reality by visiting the war cemeteries and attended the Last Post ceremony at Menin Gate - very sobering but made me appreciate Christmas a little more! Have a good one wherever you may be 🥂

I really enjoyed this! I’ve always wanted to go to Europe around Christmastime, but in my mind, it was always Germany I had to go to. You’re opened my mind! X

Germany Christmas markets are always finished by around 20th 😳 I thought the same Barbs but the Belgians are not ready to stop the party quite so early 🤣 Durbuy was actually New Year’s Day when I filmed and the atmosphere was brilliant (despite some sore heads). Merry Christmas to you and Ant 🍻

I think cost wise I would say no but if money ain’t an object then yes because you could start in Antwerp and go the opposite way around. This is actually last year and we did 12 days starting with Christmas markets and ending with Dinant and visited the war cemeteries and Menin Gate for the last post ceremony. I think the drive time from Rotterdam is similar to Calais so not much in it apart from cost 🍻

Loved the video. Where did you park the van in Ghent. Was it far from the town?

Hi Gillian. We parked at Urban Gardens and got the free shuttle into the city (it goes every 20 minutes) 👍 Thank you for watching. I loved Belgium ❤️🇧🇪 (can you tell 🤣)
