I saw these guys open for Foreigner when Foreigner was just getting hot, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They were so freaking good that, when Foreigner took the stage, the ENTIRE audience was chanting for Stillwater to come back. That was early to mid seventies. Fast forward to the mid-eighties, I was in the Army stationed at an Air Force Base in northern Japan (Misawa) and tasked to support a MWR (morale-welfare) show at one of the base clubs. It was "just" an Air Force band. But by God wouldn't you know it, the guitar player in the band was Rob Walker. I think he may have been taken aback by the fact that I recognized him... But this one of the GREAT UNSUNG SOUTHERN ROCK bands of all time. I love these guy, always have - always will!
I just found a reference to that album on google, but can't find it for sale anywhere! I randomly came across this while surfing the net over the weekend and it reminded me of this great band I grew up with (born and raised in Warner Robins). I had long since lost my recordings. Anyway I was able to order the two older albums on ebay (from a supplier in Estonia of all places), but can't find the newer one.
The band was selling them at the annual Christmas concerts, not sure if they still have CD's available of "Runnin' Free" or not. Stillwater did have a myspace page at one time, though not sure if they are selling stuff. That 3rd CD is probably very rare, reason I put up all those songs on my channel.
I can talk to my uncle Bobby Golden and see what he can do for you. I know they did remaster to cds back in the 90s and early 2000s. They still do a reunion show every year at whiskey river in macon also.
No, this band was around way before the movie. I think the folks from the movie got clearance to use Stillwater name in the movie, otherwise no ties between band and movie.
Read more in the description above for Lila/April Love. Lila is on the 3rd album, "Runnin' Free", not sure if ever officially released as an album. I bought the CD at a Stillwater concert at Whiskey River in Macon, GA, late 90's, early 00's. I loaded all the Runnin' Free songs on my channel, take a listen.
statman7 I sent Rob Walker a message and he offered to send me one, but that was several weeks ago and I haven't heard any more from him. This time of year he's probably pretty busy, though.

So is this band based on the one that was in the movie "Almost Famous"?

I can't find a recording of Lila and I had never heard it before. Can you tell me what album it was on?
