I'm 20 week pregnant, and I can totally relate to this video. I get so tired of people asking me how much have I gained, as if that is the most important part... Thank you for giving REAL information on what is healthy, because that is the most important part to any pregnancy.

Only 4 lbs of fluid? My feet and legs have pitted edema at this point (37 weeks) and my face is a moon pie! id say I have 10-15lbs of fluid retention!! It’s awful. it’s funny too cuz I started out my pregnancy so sick I lost 10 lbs and was already fit. then didn’t show any bump at all till about 6 months or so and still small bump till I hit closer to 8 months. People would say ugh you’re not really pregnant are you where’s your belly! Are you eating enough?!! then I ballooned up in the 8th and 9th month when baby really grew a lot and people said how fat I was getting. Ugh Can’t win either way so just allow your body to do what it needs to during pregnancy and ignore the critics.

I am currently 5 months and 3 weeks with my first baby. I have gained about 7 pounds so far in my pregnancy. I have been active most of my life and I am still actively training 5 times a week.
I cannot not believe how many ladies in my gym classes that would come up to me and say that they are worried for the baby because I am being "too active" or that I am too small for 5 months. I hate having to explain that my doctors (MD, OBGYN and Fetal Medicine Specialist) gave me the OK to continue my routine (modified now), that I have regular checkups and that my baby is growing fine.
Now I don't go around faulting myself in class or cause any attention that would warrant these insensitive comments. You would think that they would know better since some of them have been through pregnancy. But the comments still come.
I agree Sarah, we need to show a little more love and compassion towards each other regardless of how much weight you gain. Thank you for this video and I hope we continue to show support to each other.

I can totally relate. Only I get it from my own family. They don't understand that I'm just trying to eat healthy for me and the baby. That I'm trying to have a healthy pregnancy. They think you have to be overweight to have a healthy pregnancy! It makes me sick to my stomach. They would rather see me eat a load of junk food and over eat on food and sleep all day. It makes me feel so upset. I've been working out on the treadmill everyday and eating super clean. There a days I do give in to certain foods but I try not to make it a everyday thing. Your comment made me feel better. Thank you.

Honestly this made me feel a weight off my shoulders. I’m 21 weeks and I’ve gained 18 pounds already. My OB told me that it is too much weigh that I’ve gained and I need to exercise more. My job consist of me sitting for 8 hours a day staring at a computer. I do at least 30 mins of cardio a day and I don’t lose any weight. I don’t know what to say to my OB at all. She just keeps making weight a big deal to me. Plus this is my first pregnancy and I don’t want to have to stress over weight. Thank you for making this video, it has helped so much!!

Girl me too! Im 27 weeks and I weigh 83 kilos !!! I was already a little over weight before I got pregnant maybe around 68 kilos, and I've been trying so hard , I just can't help but to gain weight and when I have cravings I even feel guilty eating it, whem I shouldn't even worry about it. Every time I go to a check up , they're always making me feel bad about my weight, and it almost seems as if they talk to me more about my weight than my actual baby !!!! It sucks and I get so pissed every time I go but honestly im done trying to loose weight while pregnant, isn't that ridiculous??? Like gees im eating healthy already its not like I stuff my face with junk food.
I just want to enjoy my pregnancy tbh

I’m 163-164cm (around 5’3 1/2 or 5’4’’). I was around 63kg when i got pregnant. Lost 3kg during the 1st trimester and now I’m 64kg at 29 weeks (starting 3rd trimester). The bump is growing but the rest of my body slimmed down. I think there’s no one pattern of how a woman supposed to gain weight during pregnancy. I do think all the weight gain brackets are just a myth or best a reference point, but no way a standard that we pregnant folks must abide by. It’s best to be in tune w your body, your food, and your activity level. I exercise a lot more (in a safe and controlled method suitable for pregnancy of course) bc i know as the bump gets larger the rest of my body has to be stronger to mobilize myself efficiently. Having a fit pregnancy imo is tremendously helpful when it comes time for delivery and postpartum recovery. Weight is not all that important. And just like you, i do enjoy being pregnant as well. I think the bump just looks so cute ^_^!

lainny88 I’m 27 weeks and gained 25 lbs. I’m 5’7 and weighed 151 lbs before becoming pregnant so don’t feel guilty. I think genetics has a lot to do with weight gain as well. I have a cousin who was overweight and only gained 15 lbs and her baby girl weighed 8 lbs 4 oz so I think our body naturally know how much weight we need to gain in order to sustain a healthy pregnancy.

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant. I am eating a ton of ice cream. It makes my tummy happy. Since I am so unbelievably pregnant, I have a lot of tummy to bring joy to. Seriously, I am eating too much ice cream. You are supposed to gain 25 to 35 lbs when you are pregnant and with 3 weeks to go I have already gained 43 pounds.

Thank you!

    Body type: petite
    Height 4'11

I'm currently 30 weeks and weigh 136 pounds, I was judging myself very harshly and feeling so crappy because I've always been small and fit.
But I'm slowly learning to be thankful for my body in all of its moments big, small, thicker, etc. Because at the end of the day my body is creating a life, a little somebody who I will soon hold in my arms and she will be my everything♡

I agree with this completely! I'm 5'8", had a healthy BMI before pregnancy, and I'm on track to gain 30-35 lbs. by the end of my pregnancy (I'm almost 36 weeks.) I feel like many women use pregnancy as a competition when every pregnant woman should be feeling beautiful about the fact that they are sustaining the life of their growing child. Only gaining 5 pounds during a pregnancy is not an accomplishment just like being born with a fast metabolism and a naturally slender body isn't. I think all pregnant women should be celebrated regardless if they have gained 5 pounds or 50!

It’s hard when people shame you either way. Scans say it’s a perfectly healthy normal baby but people say I look the same and it really can feel just as bad as feeing like you’ve gained too much. I know this is an old video bit thank you. I'm pregnant for the first time and the weight gain terrifies me. I feel like I don't have much control. I really don't want to gain a lot of weight. It's a bit reassuring to hear someone discussing this in a balanced and reasonable manner. And breaking down where weight goes was helpful. Good to really understand that 30 pounds isn't huge.

I was freaking out that I wasn't gaining enough weight I'm 33 weeks pregnant and only gained 18lbs.. although I guess alot of ppl would b happy not gaining much weight I always thought gaining at least 30lbs was a normal healthy weight gain. Im glad I gained 18 lbs and I wouldn't mind gaining more cuz iv had a rough start to begin with. I was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum which makes it SUPER hard to eat and to keep food or drink down. I didn't start gaining weight til I was already a lil more than half way through my pregnancy. So knowing that I was able to gain something makes me happy.

Look after your mental health 2. Eat mostly healthy foods and less junk 3. Please appreciate your awesome body for carrying a life that you’re in power of controlling your will power to have a safe delivery and a healthy bouncy bubba. I don’t have social media because it doesn’t serve anything good with my time. My time is valuable I use it wisely. 💕

The "opinions" won't stop after the baby is born. Everybody thinks they're Dr. Spock (probably dating myself referencing him). I may have listened to those who 1)had children and 2)I thought they were good parents with similar values. But if ANYBODY started a sentence with "WHEN I have kids, I'm going to...", everything else I heard was blah, blah, blah. If you don't have kids, you have NO IDEA!

If we are bothered by the content then we should avoid watching it. Some women talk about their excessive weight gain during pregnancy on social media. Why aren’t we bothered by that?

Thanks for this video! I think what people (doctors included) would tell you about pregnancy weight gain is very different in each countries. I live in Japan and I'm pregnant with my first baby. Most doctors here would tell you that you shouldn't gain more than 8kg. My midwife is slightly more understanding but she still criticised that I gained too much weight (7kg) for 24 weeks. This really stresses me out since I'm trying to eat healthy and I don't think I'm eating more than I did pre-pregnancy. I'm only half-Japanese so I thought the Japanese standard doesn't apply to me, but by law if the doctor decides that I'm at risk because I gained too much weight, I will have to deliver the baby at the hospital instead of the midwife clinic...

  • @MrsARosenberg
    @MrsARosenberg 9 лет назад +21

Agreed! I'm at a healthy BMI and with my first pregnancy I gained 40 lbs (but I had a 9lb8oz baby, no gestational diabetes or any other concerns). I'm currently 26-27 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and although I was hoping to stick closer to the 25 lb weight gain mark (with better eating habits, staying physically active, etc), I've already gained about 15 lbs so I think I'm going to end up closer to the 30 lb weight gain mark. Now, as I'm entering my 3rd trimester already 15 lbs down, I've just come to the realization that I just make big, hearty babies (I'm 100% sure that this little girl will be between 9.5-10 lbs). So although the recommendations are great as a starting point, listening to your body, eating healthy, staying physically active are what is really important (and listening to your OB or midwife!). -Your local Registered Dietitian

First of all, I want to send you prayers for a fast labor (and soon!) because I know you're ready to meet your little guy. Second of all, AMEN to ALL of this! I started out pretty small before I had both of my boys, my BMI was around 19. I put on 50 pounds with both of them and was shocked because I'd never seen that high of a number on the scale before! I had high BP at the end of both pregnancies, actually had pre-eclampsia with the second one, so lots and lots of fluid. Every pregnancy is so different, every body is different, it's hard to make this a black-and-white issue. I'm now back to my healthy pre-babies weight but this uterus is retired!LOL

Hey Sarah, great post but just wanted to add if there is anything this pregnancy has taught me is that pregnancy comes in all shapes and sizes and there is no right or normal bump. I have actually felt the pressure to gain *more* weight.... I am one of those people you described as having "small bumps" (although I certainly didn't flaunt it). I was actually afraid to post bump photos on Instagram because I felt tired of being told my bump was too small or something was wrong with me. And oh yes, I did eat very very well (holiday seasons during pregnancy is the best thing ever). The only time I felt better was when my mom told me her first three born kids were all around 6.5lbs (I'm one of 6 siblings) so made me think that maybe this is also genetic. So keep in mind, it's actually not fun for that other side to feel like something is wrong with them either. I wanted to look pregnant early on and not look chubby in the middle, and it took a while to even get to that point!Good luck with the delivery and excited for you and your new bundle of joy! I am 37 weeks and due end of January :-)

My doctor told me I should expect to gain 30 lbs which sounded like a lot at first, but once you've broken it down it's not too bad! I'm just trying to eat healthy and continue to exercise (mostly prenatal routines), but like you said a little extra here and there shouldn't make us feel guilty! I'm only just getting into my 2nd trimester and I've already noticed I need an extra snack or calories each day because I get hungrier than I used to! You made me feel better about that :)

Take social media influencers with multiple grains of salt as well. I’ve heard of people taking tons of photos at 3-4 months and posting later as if they were 8-9 months. It’s a stage, don’t get fooled by the lights

Thank you for this video! I know this video was uploaded quite some time ago, but recently coming across it I really needed to hear the things you've said. My OBGYN was harping on me for gaining 30lbs. I am 5 ft tall, 28 years old, and I started out at about 120 lbs when I was first weighed after a confirmed pregnancy. He tells me I am going to be closer to getting a cesarian, which is unfair because I really do nothing wrong with my diet (i.e eat right, walk 3-4x per week, drink my water, occasionally have a cookie or ice cream here or there but I am pregnant so duh). My sister in laws are about 5'7 so they carry much smaller than me, but that is okay because my body is different I am smaller more petite always was. I really needed to see this video

+ayen ayen I will eat but be careful if I'm lucky enough to get pregnant. Family history with diabetes and bad pregnancies. It's funny how different EVER SINGLE pregnancy really is...It's terrifying. I know I'll be just awful.

My point was to prevent miscarriages and causing problems for your unborn child. I would stop eating certain things. That's the tiny little human I'd be growing --If I could. You know?

I have never been fat but used to diet a lot. Now that I'm expecting I see how obsessed that was. I will go back to dieting after having the baby, but I'll definetly be more forgiving to myself and aim towards getting healthier other than skinnier. I've gained 6 pounds on the first five months and - although my doctor does not agree with me - I don't feel that is too much and don't feel fat or anything. I haven't been overeating or anything, just getting food my body calls for (mostly fruits and taking advantage of some sporadic pasta). I love this video, It makes me feel I'm on a good track. Thanks! I'd hate to have to worry too much about it on top of all of the other things a pregnant person has to worry about. Love this channel. :*

Tacky. Those women that take pics in lingerie and show off how little weight they've gained, they're tacky. And everyone should be kind and compassionate to themselves and to others. I'm focusing on being kind to myself this year. Anyway, thank you for the video!!!!

Oyuki Pineda lol no pregnant woman on earth looks “hot” ...cute maybe but not hot. They have a belly lol who finds that sexy. I think that’s why she says pics of women w bumps in lingerie is weird. I agree...not sexy just awkward 😳🤪
