I am pregnant with baby number five. I have consistently gained 60+ pounds every time I'm pregnant. My normal (non-pregnant) weight is about 130 and I'm 5'7". As I've gotten older I've always worried that the baby weight wouldn't come off, but thankfully it always has with little effort. I'm sure breastfeeding on demand, as well as eating healthy, whole foods are the main reasons why.
We’re the same size not pregnant & I usually gain way more than “recommended”. The weight has come off quickly every time, as well. Currently 23 weeks with # 8 & haven’t gained as much this time. It’s freaking me out. Lol
Your comments have given me some much needed stress relief. 😅 I'm the exact same size as both of you (not pregnant). I'm currently pregnant with my first and the weight gain has been a really hard mental challenge for me to overcome. You both made me feel better, thinking I'll be able to lose it quickly after baby's here. Thank you!
Im actually struggling with the issue of trying to gain weight during pregnancy. So I figured I’d leave a quick comment for other mothers-to-be that might be going through the same issue. For what it’s worth my BMI is low. - Despite negative comments that I have received about being unhealthy in my weight gain. The truth is I don’t starve myself, I’m not a health nut, or an athlete, and I’m not trying to maintain a ‘figure’. I’m just a regular girl experiencing a regular pregnancy and taking all the same steps as my other pregnant friends to prepare. (Try to eat healthy/ do light exercise). Luckily I have a good OB, who said to not worry about the weight because baby is a healthy average size and right on track for development. I’m striving to reach the 20-25 lb mark before my delivery date in two months. But I’m not going to stress because bodies are different and as long as we mothers and baby are healthy that’s all that matters. I hope this helps anyone else out there like me. Don’t judge yourself no matter the situation. Friends with my same BMI who are health nuts and do everything right, have gain twice (+) the amount they were supposed to. All of which gave birth to healthy happy babies. Our bodies are different and uniquely know how to prepare for our unique labors. So don’t get too discouraged. Listen to what’s right for your body and do what you need to keep you and baby healthy.
Thank you for saying this! I have had such trouble gainibg weight during my pregnancy (17 weeks) and it's making me so anxious - but I feel hesitant to mention it to other women or post online for fear of judgment or people being rude. Appreciate you sharing your experience!
My mom only ever got to about 110 lbs when she was pregnant with me and her doctors totally thought she was starving herself. I just wish I got those genetics :) I lost weight my first trimester but I had already gotten a little heavy before getting pregnant. Now, in the second trimester, I gained all the loss back from the first trimester. My guess is that it's just changes in bloating, digestion, water retention, etc. but I am a little scared about having gained 7 pounds in two weeks just because preeclampsia is my biggest fear so I know I need to start watching what I'm eating a little more (I've definitely been eating things of questionable quality).
I'm in Japan and started at 68kg, now I'm 72kg at 20 weeks and my doctor said next month I shouldn't be above that. I just was like lol. I've been doing yoga, stretching, walking and eating well and not overeating so I'm just ignoring the doctors tbh.
I'm at 26 weeks and have so far gained 35 pounds and I stress about weight constantly especially since I am 5'9" and normal 145. I exercise and eat healthy whole foods but have had an immense appetite. I'm trying to let go of my worries. There's no weight I can't lose after but there's only so much I can do while pregnant. Just trying to let go of my fears everyday since this is my first and have never went through such a huge body change in my life.
I’m 28 weeks, also 5’9 and typically 148 pounds. But at my 28 week appointment i got weighed and realized I’ve already gained 30 pounds! So I’m in the same boat, just trying not to stress over it and know it will come off.
I was 130lb pre pregnancy and at 35 weeks now I have gained 55lbs. I eat healthy and in moderation, not “for two” and don’t have GD, edema, or any other pregnancy related risks or complications. Every body type is different. I still fit into size small/medium maternity clothes and size large women’s clothing. The ACOG recommendations are certainly not one size fits all. I gain muscle easily, my dad was a heavyweight body builder, so if I put on weight from the baby, my body will produce more muscle to accommodate the weight gain. I thought I was doing something wrong when I saw at 30 weeks that I had gained 50 lbs. but I generally feel great and know that the scale doesn’t really mean anything, and the recommendations are based on averages - not for individualized care.
I gained 30 at 31 weeks and was freaking out. I’m like but I don’t even eat fast food. Yes I have eating high carbs but that’s not because I want to but because if I didn’t my morning sickness will get worst so I balance. But I also eat lots of proteins, good fats etc…. I eat at home only about 3-4 meals per dar small portions. I eat Whole Foods about 90% of the time so we will see still have a few more weeks to go. 🤦🏽♀️
I have gained more than the recommended amount, but it's all in my belly. The rest of me has barely changed size. Everyone comments how good my figure still looks, even with only a few weeks til my due date. I stopped weighing myself eventually, I figured as long as I'm eating right, the number on the scale doesn't matter.
This was helpful information, and I was fortunate to learn about it from my provider and friend who are Ob-Gyns. I gained a total of about 25 lbs with an average starting BMI. I stayed active to some degree throughout the pregnancy (limited to walking for 40+ minutes once or twice a day by 3rd trimester). As a result, I think I avoided possible risks given my age (40 with first pregnancy). I also lost almost all of that weight within the first few weeks after delivery. Definitely great advice...stay active if you can and eat healthy, nutritious foods while avoiding the “eat for two” advice common with family.
I gained 27kilo in pregnancy and it's all but fallen off in less than 3 months. So much fluid. It was upsetting during pregnancy for me. Im not worried forn my next pregnancy .. my son is Divine and I'm so blessed and in love with him it was worth it. I was pretty skinny before I became pregnant.
Hi Bridget, I found your channel just over a week ago as I was going into my 39th week of pregnancy. I gave birth not even 48 hours ago and it was my absolute dream! I had a doula myself throughout pregnancy which I feel was the most necessary part of the whole lead up to labour and birth for me and my partner. I believe the amount of knowledge I also received from you and your channel gave me so much confidence and that extra self belief I got from watching your videos gave me the birth experience I’d always dreamed of. Thank you so so much!! Xx
This couldn't have come at a better time. I put on a lot of weight in my teens & it took a while to work it off. Got a lot of stretch marks and never really recovered. Now I'm seeing myself at a similar size at 26 weeks. I had a hospital appointment yesterday and the nurse called me skinny. It's so sad but that actually made me happy. I was annoyed at myself for being happy about it. I think it's OK to say these body changes can feel like too much sometimes
I think I’m obsessing. My insurance company gave me a maternity nurse that I can speak to over the phone and in between my OB appointments. She asked how much weight I gained. About 6 lbs the first 15 weeks. She said “woah mama, slow down.” I’ve been second guessing myself since.
I find so much confusing information on this topic. Overweight or Obese women are advised to gain 0-25lbs, but the baby and associated fluids/organs will weigh up to 22lbs? But we shouldn't lose weight? It's confusing because if we tried to follow suggestions precisely it's impossible to gain 22 lbs AND gain no weight at the same time! Bridget you are brave for trying to talk about this topic because it's certainly one with a lot of stigma.
I’m 7 months pregnant and only gained 11lbs. I started out underweight at 98lbs (I’m 5’2). I eat healthily and a llot more than I used to and I am regularly active. Hopefully I start piling on some more healthy pounds in the next few weeks before birthing.
I’m current 21 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I find that I’m constantly going back and forth between gaining and losing weight and really don’t feel that I’ve gained any. I’m overweight and eat enough. Any ideas on why this is happening? My doctor is also stumped.
29 weeks right now, I've gained ~4.5-5.5lbs I started off "overweight" so I've been trying to be mindful but I've also been throwing up almost the entire time 🥲 well see how this continues over the coming weeks since I know babys weight gain will pick up now
We have a similar due date!! Its so exciting 😊. That much nausea must be terrible! Mine mostly went away in the second trimester. I hope yours eases up soon. Sending good vibes! 💗
I am at week 31 and was never overweight, rather an athletic type. So far I gained 10 lb, which is not much at all (I vomited a lot too). Sometimes I get a little discouraged if I am eating enough but seems like baby is growing well so I really need to accomodate with the thought that much less weight gain is normal too. I always thought that is hard for the ones who gain too much weight and I was sure I did not wanted to get large, but is quite interesting to experiance that being on the other end of scale it still brings some confusion. 9 weeks to go... let see what they bring. On the meanwhile I am sure you already gave birth. Wishing you and baby much health, peace and love! ♡
I lost a lot of weight in my first trimester. When i mentioned it, An emergency room doctor said "good for you". 😬 Now I'm at 31.5 weeks and I'm about 25 pounds higher than my starting weight, but I still feel like I should have gained more... 115 -> 140 I'm open to tips!
I'm sorry they said that to you.. And I think your gain looks great especially considering such a significant first trimester loss! Those last few weeks can result in quite a bit of gain so you will likely end up around 30lbs
I'm 39 weeks and gained 30 pounds so far. I am 5'7" and weighed 135 pre pregnancy. I'm pretty much all belly but ive noticed my hips and thighs have gotten a bit thicker
Ugh girl Im praying I can keep myself this low. Starting weight same as yours ❤ I gained 50lbs with both my other pregnancies, took me foreverrer to get back to 130. Pretty anxious to gain so much again
What if you aren’t gaining the recommended weight? This is baby #3, I started out 20lbs overweight before pregnancy. I’m in my 3rd trimester and have gained a total of 8lbs. It’s confusing because of all the additions (placenta, breasts, fluid,etc.).
I’m 39weeks and 4days and this last few weeks I been gaining 2 pounds a week.. Over I have gained 25 pounds but I’m not stressed about it.. I actually enjoying it
Excellent video👍🏿! I just covered this topic on my channel also because I believe talking about weight during pregnancy shouldn’t be taboo😌. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️!
I've always struggled to gain weight which seems to be the opposite problem of 99.9% of women. My question is though, does your appetite increase naturally during pregnancy? In the first trimester I'm feeling nauseous but am hoping my appetite will pick up soon. It seems most women have no issue indulging every craving but I've never been that type of person, instead ive always had a modest appetite and a lean body shape. I love healthy food though and find it tastes better than fried fatty stuff which I'm guessing is a positive in this situation.
My issue is I am always hungry, constantly I definitely feel like I’m eating too much even if it is the right food…. I wish I could just focus on baby but I am scared of the weight gain. Currently 25 weeks and I’ve gained 16lbs so far and I was recommended to gain 25-35 for the entire pregnancy at this rate I’m sure I’ll gain over that
You’ve gained the normal recommended weight. Being 25 weeks & 16 lbs is 1. 5 lbs less than the recommended half way mark (35/2 =17.5) I’m curious though, I see this was 3 months ago and you’re close to term, did you gain the other 17/18 or more?
This weight gain stress sucks so bad it’s literally the worst part and I don’t think I can stand it to do it again. I’m so scared to eat now. Has anyone reading this had any birth complications from gaining 40-45 lbs from a healthy weight before pregnancy?
I know I'm commenting a little late, but I'm 18 weeks pregnant. I lost 30 pounds before I got pregnant, which put me at 200lbs at 5'2". I still wanted to lose close to another 30 pounds, but then I got pregnant, which is great! But now that I'm 18 weeks pregnant, I've barely gained 7 pounds, and now I've started losing weight the last month. I don't know what to do. I'm not dieting anymore. I eat at least 6 meals a day, mostly healthy (I do eat the occasional burger, but not often). I just don't feel hungry, and i often have to push myself to eat. I don't know what to do.
I lost 10-12 Pounds in my first trimester. 145- Down to 135. I gained back to 140 but I’ve been plateaued here since 12 weeks. Doctor makes me feel bad and says I should gain weight but I can’t. I eat a normal three meals a day but I don’t have this “crazy pregnancy eating for two” appetite that so many people get. It makes me worry.
Hey just wanna say I hope it goes well for you! Stressing won’t help, unfortunately Doctor don’t seem to acknowledge the impact of stress on your body... I believe in you, believe in yourself and it will be alright!
Yeah my comfortable weight and when I personally feel my best is in the "overweight" range. The only time I was in the normal range when in the throes of an eating disorder in my teens.
I'm 5'4 and 125 before getting pregnant and my ob literally told me I should only gain 20lbs and making me feel bad about my weight in 21 weeks and 135
So I was 115 pre pregnant and I was so sick so i lost down to 103.. now I am 118.. 🤷🏽♀️i am 33 weeks now hardly gained any weight.. any advice or concerns I should know?
My grandma told me she gained 75+ lbs when she was pregnant. She said her legs were very bloated, as well as other parts of her body. After she gave birth, she peed it all out immediately after. It was all water and it all went away! This was a special case, but it does happen, but we shouldn’t worry. Now that I’m pregnant, I haven’t noticed anything so far, still early but I think it’s going to be a very easy pregnancy :)
I gaine 55 and by the time I left the hospital I’d lost 16lbs, by the next week I’d lost 30lbs. People panic too much. Your body knows what to do so long as you aren’t binging on fast food you’re ok
I'm almost 32 weeks now and haven't been weighed since about 20 weeks 😅 I switched midwives at that point and haven't asked the new one why she doesn't check that at appointments, but baby is still measuring big so I'm definitely feeding him well enough and I'm not that worried about my weight 🤷🏻♀️
@@s.a.w5493 my first midwife took a more clinical approach and only does hospital births, from the beginning I planned on switching after my 20 week anatomy scan assuming everything looked good with me and baby. Switching means all still appears to be well, we are expecting a healthy baby and a normal labor at home which is exactly what I wanted 😁 I will likely get a scale out of my own curiosity, I suppose I could ask about that but it seems like a strange thing for them to assume I'm doing
@@cassandrabreit5029 I'm glad you found support for a home birth! That's so lovely. I agree that hospital is not ideal. Especially now. I'm hoping to use a birth center.
@@s.a.w5493 I saw in your other comment that we're due around the same time (I'm due June 4!), we're getting so close! Best of luck and good strength ♥️
I lost 15lbs in my pregnancy and only gained 10lbs back. I was horribly sick with my son my entire pregnancy. I had HG. I lived on white bread and plain noodles. I also drank boost and pedialyte. That's all I would eat and drink. That's all I COULD eat and drink.
I suffered Hyperemesis too & it was sooo hard. Couldn't keep anything but unhealthy things down! Everyone would try to get me to drink more water or eat more but I physically couldnt. Lived off eggs & toast & lots of donuts haha
I'm 32 weeks and have actually lost 25 pounds since this began 🙃 I keep being told I don't even look pregnant... Which is hard to hear this late. I lost about 40 pounds right before I got pregnant and thought maybe that had something to do with it? I've had severe nausea all throughout this and have had to go get fluids in an iv from the er three times during this too. I'm sure all that plays into this too 🙃 I go back to see my obgyn today and I'm hoping I've gotten some more weight on me this time.
How does everyone use the guided meditation videos while in birth? Is there a certain order, one that’s better for certain times? I’m 35 weeks now and just trying to figure it out so it’s smooth sailing when it’s time!
I’ve only gained 3 lbs at 28 weeks and my doctor is concerned that I don’t eat too much fat from meat. I feel like I have an incompetent doctor. They refuse to give me an ultrasound and I’ve had an extreme amount of stress my whole pregnancy and I’m obviously not gaining enough weight. What can I do? Should I find a different doctor????
30 weeks pregnant and so far I gained only 13lbs. On my 25th CAS baby's size is 25W+ few days. I think my baby is growing but my body is still the same? Don't wanna be anxious I eat 3 meals a day with 2 to 3 snacks and trying to eat more more fruits and veggies in my diet
This is just my situation exactly. Week 31, gained only 10 lbs and was never over weight, rather sporty. True that baby was only measuring like 2-3 day less in the last scan so he develops just normal but whats me I am just not gaining much, what I dont mind until he is fine. Some of my friends said that there are some people who dont really gaing weight because they dont consume more and what their body does is to give baby more calories and nutrient protecting baby and you are almost loosing weight in favor of baby. Well perfectly fine. No worries and you do a good job by eating healthy! 🥳
@@daianamezok139 thank you momma. Praying for a smooth and healthy delivery. As long as I'm eating healthy, moving around the house since i can't go out due to covid, drinking lots of water and taking my prescribed vitamins, and obgyn not worried, I'm doing fine. Take care always
Gained too much weight at 34weeks from 70.7 to 74.5 & now dctr decided to give me induce labor on my 38weeks / 39weeks bcos my baby is too big. I hope baby could naturally come out bfore i admit at the hosp cos im scared to be induced 😢
I’ve gained sooo much this pregnancy because of HG. Only things I could keep down for so long were white carbs :/ Doing better now towards the end of pregnancy!!!
I suffered Hyperemesis too & it was sooo hard. Couldn't keep anything but unhealthy things down! Glad the end is easier for you. The end was even worse for me!
Hi Bridget.. I love watching your videos and they give me so much hope for a positive vaginal delivery. But recently i have been diagnosed with Hypertension and that's got me worried if i can have a vaginal delivery😢 pls do a video on high blood pressure
I am 37 weeks 0 days pregnant. My AFI is 4-5cm. Moderate oligooligohydramnios. Do i have any chance of normal delivery? Can i improve my AFI by any chance?
i gained pretty much weight after pregnancy i was before pregnancy 59 kg then i lost a lot of weight 6 kg. And then i gained 22 pounds then i lost it i as 56 kg 2 weeks after pregnancy and then i gained 27 pounds because i ate normal again and now the last 3 years i lost 8 kg maby a little more. I am happy. But not there yet
i am 24 weeks and all i hear from ob i gained 8pounds from last app,and before 5-6poubds.but i was underwaight before my pregnancy almost anorexsic so now i am scare put myself on diet again but on the other hand i am on risk of c-section,(witch i dont want)and also i am not eating junk food or sodas .i am confused what to di,how i am gaining so much
This BMI info is so outdated… doctors are leaning to women not gaining so much during pregnancy 50 lbs is huge! There r women who are vloging their pregnancy weight gain their number are so much less 25 lbs or less… during my pregnancy I’m still eating healthy and working out
I aIways found it inexcusable for a woman to gain 200 lbs. to have an 8 lb. baby. I always knew that a growing fetus did not need 4 cheeseburgers and a half gallon of ice cream everyday.
Hi hopefully you see this! I just gave birth and wanted to breastfeed my baby, but everytime i noticed he would make a face, so i decided to taste my milk and noticed that my milk is extremely salty..Is that a normal thing or is something wrong with me?? Please help!!
Hey there - hope you don’t mind me jumping in but you say you’ve just given birth so it’s likely that the saltiness is due to the milk still being colostrum (or at least transitioning). Colostrum (the rich, yellowish - due to high presence of protective antibodies - milk that you produce for the first few days after birth) is less sweet and more salty than mature milk. Your baby is probably making faces for an entirely different reason! Hope that provides some reassurance! 😊
With my two boys I lost weight during pregnancy because I was so ill with it with morning sickness that lasted a whole 9 months. With my recent baby I fell pregnant when I was 65kg (145lb) and when I gave birth I weight myself two days after and I was 71.5kg (157lb). My baby is now 10 months and I haven’t still lost any weight and not rushing to

@@haley77711 I started at 98 lbs 5’1” and
I’m up 28-30 lbs at 35 weeks
Now I'm at 31.5 weeks and I'm about 25 pounds higher than my starting weight, but I still feel like I should have gained more... 115 -> 140
I'm open to tips!
I'm sorry they said that to you..
And I think your gain looks great especially considering such a significant first trimester loss!
Those last few weeks can result in quite a bit of gain so you will likely end up around 30lbs
Morning sickness has kicked my butt I sure hope I begin to get bigger and have a healthy baby
I actually enjoying it
Was the baby healthy
Being 25 weeks & 16 lbs is 1. 5 lbs less than the recommended half way mark (35/2 =17.5)
I’m curious though, I see this was 3 months ago and you’re close to term, did you gain the other 17/18 or more?
Down to 135.
Lucky you I wish
Can we talk about how outdated BMI is.
THIS not a real fan of this whole thing
BIG YES!!
We always laugh because it says my husband is obese. He’s 6’4 220 & maybe 10% body fat. So silly. I’ve got a LOT of fat & it says in “normal” 😆
Yeah my comfortable weight and when I personally feel my best is in the "overweight" range. The only time I was in the normal range when in the throes of an eating disorder in my teens.
I reckon. 80kg, 176cm, Polynesian and I was lanky yet considered “overweight” ugh so dumb
I think I gained 22 lbs the first trimester 😂 Expecting a lb a week for the last 8-9 weeks, and wishing Braxton Hicks burned more calories 🤦🏻♀️
Gained 11lbs at 7 months and my dr is making me feel like I will be 100lbs by delivery 😠
😢😮
I'm 5'4 and 125 before getting pregnant and my ob literally told me I should only gain 20lbs and making me feel bad about my weight in 21 weeks and 135
Ew i would get a new doc or ask them to put it in your chart that you don’t want to talk about weight.
I don’t understand if they said 20 and you gained only 10 halfway through then isn’t he right? You had 20 more weeks left to gain the other 10?
So I was 115 pre pregnant and I was so sick so i lost down to 103.. now I am 118.. 🤷🏽♀️i am 33 weeks now hardly gained any weight.. any advice or concerns I should know?
I was 144 pre pregnancy and i went down to 138 to 140 then 150 now i am at 147. I am so concerned because i keep losing weight💔😭😭😭
They may be expecting you to track it at home. Maybe good to follow up?
I'm sorry you had to switch midwives. That can be so stressful!
@@cassandrabreit5029 Yes! I'm due June 7! It feels so close! Best of luck to you too 😊
I lost 15lbs in my pregnancy and only gained 10lbs back.
Had HG too, basically ate nothing just the IV Drips....i lost 18kg
Great video, just what we were looking for 👍
My second pregnancy here, I’m only 4wks and gained 7lbs since last week while working out and eating the same. I am freaking out.
Could you do a video on high blood pressure and what you can do while on bed rest for labor? I’m going crazy 😅
Same mama!
Same here. Is it possible to have a vaginal birth with high bp?
@@sreelakshmisreekumar2015 yes very much possible
@@SalmaKhan-yo2qp ooh thank you very much for your reply
Yee please. Currently 33weeks and put on bedrest but still need to exercise
Loosing weight in the first trimester to almost 46 kg 😢 Always was 48-49
How to manage it when you feel nauseous and just hate most food?
Did you get an anatomy scan at approximately 20 weeks?
Please consult with a medical provider and/or registered dietitian nutritionists on weight gain during pregnancy,
30 weeks pregnant and so far I gained only 13lbs.
I had HG too.. couldn’t eat until late second trimester. Now I am 32 weeks and can eat.. I have put on 70lbs.
Hi Bridget.. I love watching your videos and they give me so much hope for a positive vaginal delivery. But recently i have been diagnosed with Hypertension and that's got me worried if i can have a vaginal delivery😢 pls do a video on high blood pressure
im 25 weeks i was 61kg before pregnancy now im 68kg im scared to gain weight as my last 4 pregnancies i gained 30kg :(
Wait so is this 22lbs + the amount determined by BMI pre-pregnancy? Or the amount in total?
bridget teyler I already lose weight and I still live parents my house is not safe for me not to gain weight
I am 37 weeks 0 days pregnant. My AFI is 4-5cm. Moderate oligooligohydramnios. Do i have any chance of normal delivery? Can i improve my AFI by any chance?
I’m in my third trimester and it’s way too late for me to cut back :(
i gained pretty much weight after pregnancy i was before pregnancy 59 kg then i lost a lot of weight 6 kg. And then i gained 22 pounds then i lost it i as 56 kg 2 weeks after pregnancy and then i gained 27 pounds because i ate normal again and now the last 3 years i lost 8 kg maby a little more. I am happy. But not there yet
Is there a video on intervention tools like forceps?
i am 24 weeks and all i hear from ob i gained 8pounds from last app,and before 5-6poubds.but i was underwaight before my pregnancy almost anorexsic so now i am scare put myself on diet again but on the other hand i am on risk of c-section,(witch i dont want)and also i am not eating junk food or sodas .i am confused what to di,how i am gaining so much
Once I gained 2kg in one week during my second trimester 😅
Same!
My doctor told me 17 pounds and that sounded way off to me
Love your videos
Gained maybe 20 lbs... BMI of about 21? Oops...😓
Im 5 months and have gained 11 pounds 😢😢😢
Kg?
I’m 20 weeks pregnant and just got called fat the other day.. the guy was arguing with my husband and said F you, and your fat wife! 😢
With my two boys I lost weight during pregnancy because I was so ill with it with morning sickness that lasted a whole 9 months.
With my recent baby I fell pregnant when I was 65kg (145lb) and when I gave birth I weight myself two days after and I was 71.5kg (157lb). My baby is now 10 months and I haven’t still lost any weight and not rushing to
Kg please 🙏🏻
