During five years at RUclips, Jon was Head of Creator Product Marketing where he worked with RUclips's top creators and brands to grow their audience and their incomes. During three years at Instagram, Jon helped build their creator team to empower even more creators to grow and monetize.
Now a creator himself, Jon has garnered 500K+ followers, 300M+ views, and has interviewed Logan Paul, Paris Hilton, Terry Crews, Charli D'Amelio, Danny Duncan, Mark Rober, and more. He's been sponsored by top brands like American Express, HubSpot, Fiverr, and Microsoft and got signed by Gary Vaynerchuk to his speaking agency, VaynerSpeakers.
Jon is also a sought-after advisor, investor, and speaker who serves as a Head Creator Advisor for TubeBuddy (analytics platform used by 9M creators), and recognized by NPR as one of the best commencement speakers since 1774 alongside Steve Jobs, Oprah and John F. Kennedy. He has also been Forbes 30 Under 30 and LinkedIn named him as one of their Top Voices on the platform.
Thank you for such a wonderful and detailed conversation, Jon! This was so much fun.
Likewise Cleo, had a blast! You seriously crushed it 👏
Love your coat!
Your channel is so amazing. Thank you for spending some time educating the rest of us on how it comes together! Many 🤯🤯 concepts in this for me!
Cleo, this video was wonderful! Your four step process for creating videos is a masterpiece. My framework is similar but not as organized as yours is 😂
Cleo, you truly are one of a kind, with exceptional delivery. Your ability to deconstruct complex ideas and make them simple and understandable is truly unique. I foresee your channel receiving the appreciation it truly deserves very soon.
I think her tag line of "If you like optimistic science" is what did it for me. Also, it's never clickbait! It's always worth the click.
SAME! Truly truly same. I actually shy away from videos that are clickbait.
Perfect comment. In the click bait era, she proves that if you focus in quality journalism, you will succeed in the long term. She is the real deal.
Its the only youtube short i take the time to like every time
The amount of care she has put into her brand is clear from this interview, and why she has grown on YT so quickly.
Absolutely, Matthew!
Yo! Matthew, why isn't your channel verified?
Love Cleo. This is the most intense note taking I've done while watching a podcast, she is truly ahead of the curve
Glad you found it valuable! Cleo over-delivered on that front.
Same. Ha, ha. Didn't mean to but so much good information.
This is the equivalent to a RUclips course. Thank you for the free content!
Legit better than most paid courses
Thanks 🙏Glad you found it valuable.
Cleo's journey from Vox to RUclips is truly inspiring. For any entrepreneur looking to make a similar leap, diversifying your content across platforms can significantly amplify your reach. Also, don't underestimate the power of strategic collaborations to boost credibility and audience engagement.
@leadgenjay you summarized it perfectly.
Sheez you could hardly have used more social media buzzwords in one sentence without your head exploding.
@@youshaei _Meh_ you mean he hit all the boxes on the buzzword bingo sheet perfectly 🙄
I love the way how Cloe has such a Traditional approach to modern media and succeeds with it
Cleo is amazing, love her voice, love looking at her, but absolutely love how genuinely excited she is about the stuff she makes videos about, it's so much fun. Her content makes stuff like Mr. Beast look like a joke, her content is fun and you learn so much. It's brilliant and she's going to continue to become huge, because her personality is magnetic, it's so much fun to watch Huge if True.
I completely agree Josh!
watching Cleo feels like technology journalism presented by an engineer with the communication capability of a journalist rather than a journalist an interest in technology and engineering. The focus is on the detail and the concrete goal for how the technology improves people's lives and the detail in the plan for getting there. Typical technology journalism seems focused on spectacle rather than detail either in service of how the technology is a disaster or that it will be revolutionary with no concrete information on how.
Absolutely agree, Xurtis!
It’s super simple
1 she’s objectively good looking
2 the information provided is backed up and factual
3 interesting topics and deep dives
Also good production value, but yeah the most important thing is that she's hot and bubbly. Nobody would watch if she was a frumpy grumpy bossbabe.
The best thing about Cleo's videos is that she never treats the viewer like a moron (like mass media channels do). Like if you watch a space travel news story on mass media they have to make some awkward cringe joke because the journos are morons who think being smart is weird and childish. Cleo's videos treat the audience as intelligent adults, although they can appeal to kids, she has infographics to help explain complex subjects and makes them relatable. Her presentation style is also friendly and welcoming. Her space suit video was terrific. If I had to make one any advice it would be to slow down a little bit, she tends to get excited about the subject and talks very fast at times.
I thought it was obvious why she goes viral. She smart, funny and utterly beautiful.
She is literally sooo pretty 😍
i love her
🔥Cleo actually spends time on quality videos such as providing motion graphics. She is master visual storyteller.
💯 she truly is
Can I like this more than once??
I’ve watched this twice now. @ChloeAbram is absolutely brilliant and I could listen to her talk all day. I’d be so much smarter at the end of that day on so many topics. Film making, story telling, tech. Amazing human.
And this is my introduction to this channel. Amazing interview, great questions. And no notes?? Surely loads of prep - but then contemporaneous questions for an hour? Is that really what’s happening here? Man! 👏👏
Thank you!! Really means a lot, hope you enjoy the other interviews on our channel as well 🙏
@@youshaei yeah man this interview was a good doorway to your work. I’ve seen some of your thumbnails highlighted on some How-Tos but man - it’s the interviews that really matter. Gold.
Watching the Huge if True Videos is exciting, but hearing about the deep thought process behind makes me appreciate them even more. Thank you for doing this interview!
With how much public sentiment has turned against science and technology in the past decade or so, it's a breath of fresh air to see someone advocating for unapologetic techno-optimism the way that Cleo does.
Always look forward to watching your videos. How lucky for your viewers who get to watch u and learn from your long time experiences as well as others who get interviewed by u. Very proud of.❤️
Love these perspectives! Currently watching and vigorously taking notes on this conversation! HUGE, HUGE *if true fan! Thanks so much for absolutely crushing this interview and providing so much value!
Awesome to hear, JustusStew!
Cleo's adventurous inquisitive nature combined with her animated way of describing what she is delving into is what keeps me viewing. The fact that she is doing ridiculous dives into the intracacies brings a sense of relief, at least I'm not the only one who researches everything they find interest in.
I think most of the media I see only seems to be able to present optimism when couched in hyperbole and wild conjecture and so it seems unrealistic, whilst anything presented with realism seems to only be pessimistic. I'm always down to watch Cleo because I know i'll get to see the optimism that you can still find when taking a look at the reality of a story and understanding the limitations of a technology; that optimism seems so much more tangible and satisfying, the impact and the path to get there so much clearer.
What sets Cleo apart is the integrity and quality of her journalism. She doesn't come with an agenda: which is science and technology is rare these days. Her investigations and research are second to none. Her enthusiasm sells her product. Any expert who doesn't allow her access to their project would miss out on the best quality exposure.
Thank you Joe and Cloe for being honest RUclipsrs
Her energy and enthusiasm is Contagious and she's genuinely curious.
The 4 step video process and the lesson from vox were key takeaways from this video. This is my first time seeing Cleo and I am intrigued by her presentation. Her 4 step video process was well explained in lay man terms that I had to give it a try for my youtube videos. The 4 step video process will keep me more focused on organizing, gathering and writing content. Thank you @CleoAbram for being a great guest. It was the highlight of my day. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Becoming full time RUclipsr can be really tough if you don't plan everything ahead. I knew I couldn't afford to waste months trying to get noticed by just a handful of people. Instead of spending months to get few hundred subscribers, I found how to get organic growth immediately (by using a bit of Famester of course). Since I started using this tool, my channel blew up and I realized that people tend to focus on numbers when searching for content. Having a low subscriber count often means being overlooked, even if your content is top-notch...
Yes there are tools that can help, but my advice is to focus more on the quality of your content and understanding your audience. I’ve built a Discord community that now has 4,500 creators in it. Would love to have you join us: discord.com/invite/created
For new RUclipsrs-and I’ve been on the fence about this-but, would you recommend hiding your subscriber count #? Thank you! :)
i’m in love with cleo
No one's talk about one of the huge reasons. she looks good.
And that's one of the reasons people click on her thumbnails.
Humans tend to watch and listen to beautiful people, and She literally looks like natalie portman.
True, she does make good videos but her looks as with anything on TV/Film/Youtub etc goes a long way
I just found her on RUclips a few days ago. She is really impressive. She is very, very beautiful as far as looks go but what really impressed me is she is extremely, extremely intelligent, prodigy level intelligence. I can tell by listening to her. She has tons and tons of knowledge.
This was a stellar convo. Dealing with creative block and finding my style this interview hit me at the right time. Thank you Jon for asking amazing questions and thank you Cleo for providing so much detailed and honest insight. You've both earned a sub from me!
Awesome to hear that, Mario - and thanks for the sub! It means a lot 😊 I think you'd get a lot out of my Discord community. We have over 4,500 creators sharing advice, tips and ideas. Join us: discord.com/invite/created

I worked for several years doing Documentaries for TV, this is very similar to the workflow that we used. Great interview! Cleo is for sure an inspiration!
That's awesome, Danillo! Thank you 🙏
She is attractive and seems like a genuine nice person that makes good videos.
This is probably one of the most lucid views on the video production business I’ve heard. Thanks to you and your guest.
Cleo - you do a great job addressing new or next-generation technology. As a scientist, doing new technology and making math and science exciting for young people is important. But, I thought you would be interested in a couple of next-generation technology. 1) Optical Correlators work by Intellisense Systems Inc. and 2) Photonic IC technology work by Accipiter Systems Inc. & the University of PITT (Pittsburgh PA) or Bascom Hunter Technology & Princeton University (Baton Rouge LA).
I am also a publisher of a book Simple Patterns of Mathematics vol 2, which makes learning the multiplication tables a pattern instead of something to memorize. You might enjoy that too.
Great video!! Ty @CleoAbram for being generous with your wisdom!
Some work their whole career working to master just the journalism part. She's how old and already systemically dissected and documented the process? And leads other people in it? Impressive.
I know right? Very impressive!
I love @cleoabrams point at 31:21. As a commercial producer, I regularly try and coach my clients on feedback and ask them to communicate the problem they're feeling (I don't feel like the graphic is clear) rather than proposing the solutions themselves (make it bigger). That way the experts in creative communication (the art director, editor, copywriter, etc) can find the solution that fits the creative (add a subtle drop shadow to the text, try a light overall vignette to the picture, increase the graphic 5% rather than 20%, have it animate on rather than fade up, etc).
What clearly doesn't hurt is that Cleo is a very beautiful and intelligent woman.
Ahhh so inspiring and so so cool! Loved the process and all the questions. Thank you! I would love some more detail about her team and how brands can get in contact with them to pitch ideas as well, but I can see how that can be tricky to share. Can't wait to see how Huge if True keeps growing and evolving. I'm a Huge fan! 😉👏
Cleo has a perfect profile. Cameraman seems to have noticed that, as they show her a lot from the side. :D Love watching her YT channel. Always insightful stuff.
The best walkthroughs of process I've seen. My takeaways:
17:30 One of the things I care a lot about is that I’m not the main character of my show. I am the proxy for the audience and I introduce them to a new main character in every episode.
19:48 The visual needs to actually help the explanation. Is it answering the question? Is it doing explanatory work? If you’re saying ‘this’ it’s a cue for a key visual.
28:25 Never underestimated your audience’s intelligence and never overestimate their prior knowledge. No jargon. No acronyms. Very simple language but very complex ideas.
Keep head and hands as close together as possible. The person who came up with the idea should be involved in the work.
You summarized Cleo's key points so well 🙏
Cleo is brilliant, intuitive, and so darn likable!! Love her voice. She has the charm and attraction of Jennifer Garner and Sandra Bullock blended in the best way. And her breakdown here is pure GOLD for creators!! Thank you, Jon & Cleo! 💛🙏🏼
Because they are brilliant, easy to understand, accurate and detailed. Lots of work goes into them and she & her team are reaping the rewards which is awesome and we are getting amazing content :)
It’s fascinating. It’s like making TV episodes for RUclips. They are better than most of the episodes on TV.
That’s how I see how @cleoAbram channel works so well and it’s clear that process has been learned from her time at Vox.
Love the show and wish I could plan like this. The animations and visuals on the show are awesome.
Don’t know how I would do this for my tutorials but thank you for this. 🙏
Cleo definitely has a gift for visual storytelling. If you're looking for more video tips and advice, you should join my Discord community of over 4,500 creators: discord.com/invite/created
Great storytelling in education and documentary can be introducing a question and going on a journey to discover the answer. This is a realization I felt lucky to realize when I thought of it in the past. ;)
Totally agree, Benjamin!
Such a wonderful video. Cleo is an absolute great storyteller. Visual first thinking is key to making such banger videos. Thank you so much Jon for such videos. We need more such podcasts with great storyteller - Johnny harris, etc.
Thank you! I agree- visuals are key!
Cleo is an inspiration! Her optimism is infectious. Thank you for hosting this wonderful interview to pick her brain! I learned a lot 🙏
Glad to hear it 😊
Thank you, this was sooo good and sooo helpful! 🙏🏻
Cleo's videos are genuinely interesting and unique from other content creators and I never regret to watch her videos. I hope her channel continues to be successful
There’s an intelligence with a touch playfulness to Cleo’s narrative that makes her Channel particularly interesting
What a gift to get to learn from Cleo. I've been waiting for an interview like this! Thank you! 💙
Glad you enjoyed it!
The reason Cleo Abram videos are so good first she is very watchable, funny and and dare I say very good looking with a clear interesting voice to listen to.
thank you for this! this was so wonderful and well done

Okay to that editor of the Huge if True intro animation, you really made me obsessed with that! ❤
It's so good!
It took me 43 minutes to notice that Cleo was wearing an x-men shirt. I really enjoyed the conversation. When I first discovered Cleo it didn't take long to realize she had it together. Intelligence is beautiful.
I feel like I am so late to the party. Just discovered Cleo's channel a few weeks back and it has changed my life and how I interact with others. Thanks Cleo!!!
As a content creator myself, I do feel that this has been very informative for someone who wants to transition into video creation. Cleo Abram's videos are so well done and I am always curious as to what she's exploring and talking about.
I love watching Cleo's channel!! She's awesome. This is a great interview!! Loved it 💕😊
thank you! Credit to Cleo for being so open to sharing her process
Keep the head to hand together. Absolutely empowering.
I like you as a person and your show. You were very kind when I met you in person in Texas at VidSummit
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words, glad we got to meet IRL 😊
Not to be a hater, her channel is great. But being promoted by Jonny Harris and some other famous RUclipsr having access to a pool of experts certainly doesn't help lifting your channel when you first start.
That’s networking (also her work)
Yeah, it's not an empty path. There are many people helping hold the line straight forward.
@@gaurav91pandey point is the “networking” has played a big part in this success story. So always good to have powerful friends helping their buddies. Again her work is great but I am sure there are many equally good youtubers that you and I havent heard of because they didnt have famous youtubers as their friends.
@@ashspeaks1 after reading Walter Isaacson 'innovators' I realise now that the innovators we hear of Gates, Jobs, Musk, etc.. never did it alone and far from it.
I believe to have most traits associated to an innovator but I have none of the networking to make anything useful out of it.
Thank you guys!! Awesome interview and thank you for sharing your knowledge and congratulations both of you great personalities and great level of intelligence
What a great and informative conversation! 😍 Thank you for putting this together and lifting us up. You are both a guiding light for all creators.
what a fantastic interview, watching Cleo literally makes me smarter and brings cautious optimism into the the future
appreciate you Arman! Kudos to Cleo for keeping it so candid and sharing her process 🙏
Amazing interview. Cleo is an inspiration. ✌🏽😎
Cleo is a You Tube star. She found a niche pitching the good side of technology, and does it so well. Thanks for sharing the insights on how she does it.
Absolutely fantastic interview. You both are excellent at what you do.
Thanks so much for your support 🙏
I think that anyone wanting to quit their job to become a creator should think long and had about taking the leap, especially if they aren’t as stunningly beautiful as Cleo 🙂

Jon & Cleo, thanks for this Masterclass... WOW!
So glad you enjoyed it 😊
its called multimedia-effect and is used in european education system. we learn this in university when studying to become teachers. the amount of information we can save in our brain is higher when the information is poresented in multimedia (audio and visual). the infomration needs to be very close together too
All her videos go viral because she is AWESOME! She definitely digs deep into every subject she talk about, giving us good insights that we never knew... Her F1 video for example, i've been an F1 fan my entire life, and the stuff she showed on that video kind of blew my mind...
💯
Really? No other dedicated F1 channels gave you the information that she did? Can you tell me what exact information did you get from her that no other channel gave you? I might learn something new, and I'll see if others have covered it or not. Thanks.
It would be so cool if we could have those documents shown in the videos as a template!!
Lover her shirt!!
Their videos are very well researched and done, plus (and this important, as superficial as it seems) she's got a great personality on camera and she's hot.
This was an awesome interview. Does @CleoAbram share her pitch deck or the outlines she references in this video anywhere?
Thank God RUclips recommends Cleo's channel on my feed, awesome channel, I'm a huge fan!
