Exactly 💯 I am so passionate about the digital product I'm creating, it's my sanity to get it out my mind and out into the world to help transform at least 1 person. So when I go online and see so many teaching how to do this and copy paste that because it's trendy & a money generator, I ask myself am I rare or something because I invest my energy into building things from a place of passion, not for get rich quick scheme. And you are on it! My goal is to transition from the digital product to building an app, and selling on my own landing site allows me to build a database to transfer the audience to create a powerful community as I am able to elevate the business! Appreciate hearing a creator speak out on the subject!

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I started last year selling digital products on etsy and am averaging $17k to $25k profit a month. Yes it's hard work and dedication but like everything else you get what you put it into it. And no I'm not mentioning my type of products I sell and I learned by researching etsy not watching youtuber gurus.

I just want to add to those thinking about creating and selling digital products on any platform, it's a LOT of work, time, effort to do it, if you want to have qualify products. And generally, you should have a lot of listings to make serious money, aside from all the marketing etc that needs to go into it. If you're not willing to or have the time to devote to the "upfront" effort and maintenance ongoing, don't waste your time. Just my take on it!!

Facts. I've had my Etsy shop for a year and a half and just got to 60 sales. It's a slow grind building an audience or you have to have alot of ad spend. You see other shops that just opened that have tons of sales but it's obvious that they already have a following or are spending a large amount on ads.

Some of what you are sharing is correct. Some is not. For example, there are THOUSANDS of companies that market items that they do not give a shit about....but they did their research and decided to market specific product lines that they knew were high in demand. So...in essence, they did not care about the products and still sell CRAP TONS of that product. So, you DO NOT need to love the products you sell. Selling products isn't always about LOVING what you are selling. It can be able serving an industry because you know it can create income flow. I have sold many things that I give two shits about, but have made a LOAD of money selling them.

    • @bliss3821

100%!! Just because I wouldnt hang it on my wall doesn't mean I wasn't completely dedicated to making an item for someone else. It doesn't have to be on brand or even to my taste as long as it sells and im providing a quality product. Taste is subject and business is business.

I completely agree. I've made numerous religious products, I'm an atheist. But they sell and that is what matters sometimes. It helps me to keep the income and interest flowing when the products I DO love aren't selling as well. I personally believe in a balance.

I subscribed to one, what she was saying seemed very reasonable and different from others, I started follow her on Instagram, went to her site to see the price of her course and mentorship, it didn’t have, so DMd her asking about the cost, she then began to making me a lot of questions, how much I wanted to make, I said in 1.5 years I’d like to make X amount of money, then I asked again how much it is for the mentorship and course, she took a while to answer, after that she said it cost almost 200$ per month for the course for the 1.5 years, and maybe almost 400$ per month for 1.5 years for the mentorship.
I know courses who cost only 150$,200 that are legit.
That seemed very scammy for me, why doesn’t she has the price of the courses or the mentorship?
Besides she posts reviews on her socials, but i only saw the instagram page of one of her students, if they are real and not purchased testimonials don’t they have they own socials?

Fast forward years later, Etsy became over-saturated, sellers are lowering their price to match their competition, and people are copying each other work which lead me to create my own website.
Now I make way more than I did with my own website, gain loyal customers with my own email listing, and have a website that’s more organized and categorized for customers shopping experience.

The choice is simple...build business on a platform you own (long-term) or risk wasting time and money building business for Etsy. You don't own your customers..Etsy does. Own your email list. (Right on Jessica). The landlord can always kick you out of the store you're leading but not when you own it. Big difference.

Finally someone said it. Tons of videos titled "make a digital product with me" or "how to make x-amount by selling this digital product" or "digital planner tutorial", but none of them showcases an actual, profitable product that people will buy. And for a good reason - why would profitable creators give out their trade secrets and share their niche? I'm currently building my first digital planner and it has been weeks of work so far, trial-and-error mostly, until I had one page that's something I feel I could work with. I will put it out in the coming weeks, and then I'll see how my SEO performs. No such thing as easy money, no matter how they put it. Young entrepreneurs should learn that dudebros and girlbosses are making money by selling them this dream.

Hey Jessica, I just want to simply say thank you so, so much for this video.
I, like many others have bare hand witness to many of these you mention regarding Etsy, and it does literally and figuratively blatantly just sell you into 'u can make money by doing this as so many others are doing' yes and no, like you said of course it is possible but it's all about the brand, shop name, creation that you, yourself create, if you love something enough it's bound to love you back right and I think myself that is the true defined basis to encourage anyone to do what they want of they truly believe it, it can truly be achieved I think.
For anyone who wants to do this, research is important or follow the right people, like Jessica, keeping it real and saying it as it is/how it should be. Again, I am so, so glad to have found you, like a breath of fresh air.
I can most certainly start something with ease and much more confidence within, for sure. 🙂

A "selling" mindset over a "creating" mindset doesn't work long-term. Products become unoriginal and income dries up quickly...

Here is my complaint about Etsy. The law says that they have to have an unsubscribe button if they send you an email. But they don’t have any!
I have complained to them in the past about getting unsolicited email and it stopped. But now it has started up again!
I really resent them sending me info I never asked for. This makes me not trust them in general.

I have a question please...I'm an artist, mostly paintings but some mixed media and glass works as well, who has a large body of work. I have digitized most of the work and was thinking about selling some as digital downloads. My question is...would you recommend I sell them as a digital printable file ie; .pdf/.jpg or as an already printed item on glicee, poster and canvas? Thanks for making useful content.

it sounds like you have already lots of your original art to sell, that is already so much further ahead of most people, so I would build my own gallery / website with a shop and focus all my energies to drive traffic to the site

You’re definitely going to have more overhead selling the physical prints so if you still need to build an audience, I’d start with digital and if your audience wants physical, move to that later

Are you saying it’s not saturated? What about the reserving that’s going on? And the people posing as homemade when the items are from alibaba?
