Thank you so much! I'm going to NYC first week of December (from Brazil) and I am filling my schedule with a show for EVERY POSSIBLE performance! hahaha Probably 3 on Thursday because Oh Mary has a 5PM show! this helped me to make some decisions!
I keep hearing that Broadway is on hard times and failing, but it sure doesn't seem to stop producers from bringing new and old shows to a theatre near it.
@@itskatharinequinn i'm still getting my head wrapped around this upcoming broadway season. so i'm going to write more later on today. Kara is doing all the background stuff & she has a huge fanbase. 🎭
Small fact check, Amy sherman-palladino did not do any of the writing on the TV show younger, she and Sutton Foster did work together on The Marvelous Mrs maisel however thank you for all the info, I love what your channel is doing!!!!
Thanks for info, but do you have any info for Annie? All I know it is starting Dec? 2024...trying to figure out ticket pricing and timeframe to schedule flights there.
I had the interesting experience of playing each of the fathers in Our Town in productions that were mere months apart from one another. It's a remarkably durable and flexible piece of theatre.
Speaking of the Amy Sherman-Palladino/Sutton Foster connection: Sutton Foster also guest starred on Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life! She plays a regional theatre star who comes to Stars Hollow for one of their community shows opposite Christian Borle. It's hilarious. I hope I get to catch her in Once Upon a Mattress!
My first visit to NYC is coming up, Labor Day week. So far, I plan to see The Great Gatsby, Back To the Future, and...The Play That Goes Wrong (I THINK that's the one). Possibly adding 2 more to that list. Or 3. Or 4.
Saw Once Upon a Mattress already & it is fabulous (although I miss the song they cut from the original production). Have tickets to Swept Away, Our Town, Romeo & Juliet, The Hills of California & Gypsy. Looking into tickets to Sunset Blvd & Death Becomes Her. I had forgotten about Redwood! Thanks for the reminder. I’d better look into that one. With Idina leading the cast, reasonable ticket prices will likely sell quickly.
Am coming for 5 nights in mid November, was looking to fill some slots for shows and I think you just sold me on Swept Away! I love a dark moody show and the idea of seeing a fabulous set, not quite so common these days is very appealing., though I have no idea who the Avett Brothers are. .is the music in the show is similar to their usual stuff? Thankfully i'm also seeing Sunset Blvd and Tammy Faye (twice!) so that balances out the all male Swept Away. I am really rooting for Tammy Faye, but with so many big shows opening - practically 1 a week in the fall, i fear it might get lost in the mix. The show is very funny, as you're hoping it is, the book is very clever in the way it links to the current political climate and it has one of the best original scores in years. But the Palace seems way too big for this show....( it seems they have now closed the balcony at the Palace) I have zero interest in Death Becomes Her or *wispers* Gypsy. I know, I know...
I *love* this! Perfect illustration of something that wasn't for me but absolutely is for other folks! And yes--share your fears about Tammy Faye. Really hope marketing ramps up and it gets the eyeballs it deserves!
I've seen things claiming "The Mousetrap" is coming to broadway for at least two years... any idea if that will ever actually happen? Or do I just need to see it on my next trip to London.
Have plans to see a number of the shows you mentioned, and have tix to some. I do have tix to Sunset Boulevard. It’s definitely one of the upcoming shows I am most excited about. Also excited about Gypsy. Please tell me they did a full renovation of the Majestic post-Phantom. Waiting to see if Operation Mincemeat and Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York will transfer to Broadway or off-Broadway.
I'm also so curious about what state the Majestic will be in with Gypsy. I can't imagine it hasn't gotten at least SOME love. Also very curious about Mincemeat! I really enjoyed it in london and I could see it faring well here tho I'm not sure about a Bway run
Not stupid at all! Plays are typically MUCH cheaper to produce for many reasons, not least of which is lack of musicians, typically less intensive sets, smaller casts, etc. And even smaller musicals like Gutenberg were able to recoup on a limited run--6 Million budget vs many musicals ~25 Million these days
Got tix to see Our Town with a friend in January, and I'm SO excited. I want to see one more show but can't decide. I really wanted to see something at the St James but...ugh. REALLY not wanting to sit through Sunset Boulevard. That Jamie Lloyd style just ain't my thing. Well, there are a lot of options at least. Wish I was going to NYC earlier to see McNeal. I got a ticket to see that but had to shift my NYC dates to January so that was disappointing...
I have first night preview tickets for Romeo and Juliet and I cannot wait! I am making a few day trip out of it and deciding what to see has been the hardest part lol
Swept Away! I traveled to Berkeley and DC to see it through its development. I love the cast, love the music (long time Avett Brothers fan), love the story. Have a trip planned for January just for this show.
Cast: John Gallagher Jr, Stark Sands ❤, Adrian Blake Enscoe, and Wayne Duvall. Some female creatives: set design by Rachel Hauck (Hadestown), costumes by Susan Hilferty. It is an all male cast but that doesn’t bother me at all due to the story it’s telling. Anyway I hope people see it with an open mind to something different and dark and interesting. I think it’s a beautiful show and I hope folks give it a chance.
I love this! Like I said, wasn't for me but I am genuinely glad it's for you. The set is TRULY the star for me and again def think everyone is great in it. I'm just not the demo.
@@itskatharinequinn Absolutely understand. This show was practically made for me as a fan of the Avett Brothers and Stark Sands. I definitely admit my bias… 😂
Love your channel. From London ! Was in New York a week ago and saw 8 shows. Back at Xmas to see, hopefully 4 more. Saw the hills of California in April. Wass Excellent sunset is phenomenal and plan to see it again
We're going to NYC for the week of Thanksgiving for the parade our son is marching in with a band. We want to see a show, but can't agree on one, I want to see Back to the Future (80's kid), or Book of Mormon, wife and daughter don't.....would Once upon a Mattress be enjoyable for a 12 y/o girl?
"Cannibals." Spoiler alert, anyone? Also, since you saw it you might enjoy this story, but my mom fell asleep for a large chunk in the middle (not necessarily a review as she does this habitually), eventually woke up and asked me "Where'd the ship go?" 😂
One skinny escelator just going up, and one skinny escalator going down. I'm just saying, if they don't have one more skinny escalator going nowhere just for show, they have missed an opportunity and I will be very disappointed.

Yeaaaah. The house is definitely on fire but the party rages on.
Saw a Wonderful World in New Orleans last October and I am in Love with that show. I hope Broadway does too!
Thrilled to hear this!
Katherine Lindsay as Sutton's Standby is magical.

So informative. Thanks! Can't wait to see Wonderful World.

This might be a stupid question but how do limited runs recoup? There are productions that last a year and don’t make a profit
