Why didn't they do that before? I kept forgetting his existence till that episode and that episode where he infiltrated East Pines park by taking up another identity. But he used his Russian name in English

The Russian Spy twist for Thomas is one of the main reasons why I think he’s one the best short-lived side character in modern cartoons

I’m gonna be real. Thomas was my favorite character before the reveal. He kinda felt like a true straight man compared to the wackiness of the rest of the cast. I didn’t hate the reveal, of course. But I did appreciate Thomas for who he was.
Exactly, his role as the straight man was sorely missed after the reveal, he served a good purpose and was a nice character. He didn't need to be a large personality

Same I thought he was funny, extra and relatable enough as the intern Thomas but still, they had to do something about his character and they did it right. Side characters should be there for a reason like for the plot, relationship with the main characters etc. And since Thomas didn't really have a significant reason to be there I think it was a great way of giving him an arc and reason to be there, also cool outro.

I actually liked him better as an intern, especially in that episode with the Country club, that was funny af. Also him infiltrating East Pines like a pro was suspicious.

Not the episode Hello Governor. In that episode it turns out it was all in Rigby's head and nothing Supernatural happens.
My friend said to me once, they had a two part episode just to introduce him and did nothing with him afterwards.
While I first thought the whole “Thomas was actually a Russian spy the whole time” twist was kinda out-of -nowhere, in hindsight, that kind of twist is exactly what a show like Regular Show would pull.
With such a strange, vibrant cast of characters, each with their own personality, backstory, and motives for what they do, Thomas just kinda seemed out of place.
He was the most “normal” character in the show, and that really didn’t feel right in a show such as this.
The Russian Spy twist really helped flesh out his character and helped it fit in with the rest of the show’s cast.
Nobody gunna talk about how he is voiced by Sonic the hedgehogs current actor
Sonic running through Mother Russia.
He ran through China in Unleashed... but not MOTHER RUSSIA!

He didn't become better, he practically wasn't even a character after that episode because they dropped him, save for like 1 returning episode. He was better as an intern, he provided a needed role as the straight man.
The twist makes no sense which regular show never does lmao. but it seemed really lazy and most if not everyone liked the original character. Plus that whole episode when he calls his mom was to set up him being a spy. This is shown from him taking down muscle man and literally becoming a spy in the rival park. But the thing is, he’s never shown any abilities besides being a normal dude before that episode and the one where he’s revealed happens only a couple episodes later… last second, half assed.
Fun fact in season 1 their was more animal people as background character though they were phased out in season 2

I liked how they changed his character, but let’s talk about high five ghost. He was just as quiet .
High five ghost had that one episode based on him and that was it (couldve had more but I havnt rewatched the show in a long time)

One interesting bit of foreshadowing is the that in an earlier episode, he went as an undercover intern for the other park to see what they’re up to and he goes there under the moniker “Nicholas”. I thought that was really cool in retrospect

I honestly don’t think you’re right about the whole spy thing coming out of nowhere. Notice how Thomas always gets a call from his “mom” at the end of every episode he is in but it never happens until all of the other guys walk away.
I loved Exit 9B and the Real Thomas, both of the episodes were amazing in my opinion.
Tomas was the closest thing we got to a "normal" character in this show. But I guess back then people didn't like normal, at least when it came to regular show.
I especially loved that Since Roger Craig Smith provided his voice, he could do an awesomesauce Russian accent
It connects amazingly well how in the statue robbery Thomas fake name to infiltrate the rival park was "Nicolas", and turned out his real name was "Nikolai"
'Nikolai' is literally Russian for 'Nicholas'.
Only the last time we saw Thomas/Nikolai is him seeing the park floating to space.
It’s still pretty annoying that just when they started to make him an interesting character, they decide to write him out of the show
I love the foreshadowing before the spy episode. The episode where Gene stole the statue really foreshadowed that he was a spy

Season 7 episode 36 Rigby's graduation episode.
The Russian thing is related to the space race, the last time we saw Thomas he is cheers-ing the park crew as they blast into space and let's not forget that Russia tried to steal the whole park, flying it to Russia in a way relative to how the dome blasts into space

I was glad he wasn't shoved down our throats that Thomas was new and he was there.
My favorite part about Thomas was that he was voiced by Sonic's voice actor

Honestly, the first time I heard of this episode, I was really scared not knowing what would happen with his character. When he was indeed revealed to be a spy, I was shocked, but impressed with how they were able to work his character around (for the most part) with flashbacks from previous episodes (the only thing that bugged me was that his “friend” Cody from “Expert or Liar” was never addressed, but I have good reasons to believe it’s possible “Cody” was also another potential spy working alongside Thomas or maybe he was another robot, we’ll never know) but was glad to see he managed to turn against his parter Natalia and save the park and employees. I was pretty sad to see him leave, and at first I was pretty upset he left because it then felt like this episode was just made as an excuse to write him off, but the more I re-watched it, the more I felt he went off with a bang and it really added to his character and in my opinion actually made sense - with all his shit he put up with being the only intern and how quiet he was, I think it falls under the category of “be careful of the quiet ones,” especially when you mess around with them like that.
He also hinted in one episode when muscle man pranked him he said said “it’s not like I’m going to be a intern forever”
Then he gets hired for a full fime job.
I still think that they should have had Thomas be hidden somewhere in the final scene just chilling in the background.

He was probably my favorite character in the show or one of my favorites.
I honestly really like his character arc.
The contrast, the fresh new face, the newbie, the moldable one.
The point of Thomas was to see how a normal guy would be altered and changed by the bigger personalities in the park. You know when you're watching a story and suddenly the main character went from a regular guy who is experiencing, changing and developing from his experiences in the story only for the writer to change them to secretly always being "cool" and gifted from the beginning. Like we're getting to why Thomas will become cool and special not why they were always secretly cool and special from the getgo. It's unfortunate since this is the type of thing people would hopefully avoid instead of embracing.
He's also seen in the episode where the park gets sent to space
Remember the time when Thomas infiltrated the enemy park. It was obviously one of best Thomas moments in Regular Show.

Regular Show was definitely my favorite cartoon network show, mostly because of the soundtrack
