Overview:
The Toyota bZ4X debuts as Toyota’s bold step into the electric vehicle (EV) market, featuring a sleek design and a tech-rich interior. Does it stack up against its rivals, the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Kona Electric? Let's find out.
Key Features:
Design: Sports a "hammerhead" front and a modern SUV silhouette.
Powertrain: Offers up to 160kW with its dual-motor AWD version.
Range & Charging: Provides a WLTP range of up to 436 km, with fast-charging capabilities.
Driving Dynamics: Smooth ride with basic regenerative braking settings.
Interior: Spacious with a 12.3-inch touchscreen but lacks some high-end amenities.
Safety: Equipped with Toyota Safety Sense but misses out on features like a surround-view camera.
Pricing:
Starts at $71,160 for the FWD model, positioned between the budget-friendly Hyundai Kona Electric and the pricier Tesla Model Y.
Conclusion:
The Toyota bZ4X is a reliable entry into the EV market, showcasing Toyota's hallmark of quality. However, it doesn’t quite deliver the innovation seen in its competitors.

CRIKEY! 71,000? I may be able to fit the bill if Simone goes on a date with me in it... Otherwise, Nah... So what do you say Simone? "LETS DO THIS"!!!
@artstar5994 😜 That’s quite the offer! While Simone’s busy zooming around in EVs, your comment sure charged up our day! Keep the spark alive, friend!
What a joke of full range for the price, yet there will be individuals buying it thinking they're saving the planet 😒
whats with the black parts near the tires? not enough parts?
Good to see you putting up reviews! Will you get the 2024 Prius Prime to review at some point? I am really interested in the new Prius and Camry Hybrid.
So in Australia, we don’t have the new prius yet. And I’m not too sure if we will get the prius prime in Australia.
There are no bad products just bad prices. There's just too much more to talk about in this space and this one looks like a side note. Great video.
I'll stick to my BYD seal ! Great review Simone :)
All the gubbins visible under the bonnet might just mean Toyota has made it easier to work on
What's with the low quality video upload no HP/4K
@allfitat56 Caught us while still rendering! The video was shot in 4K, so refresh now for the full high-resolution experience. Thanks for your patience!
As always, a very nice review focusing on the FAQs a consumer might have. . A bit slow to 60 mph/100kph as compared to other EVs and the interior is "meh. " No one-pedal driving is a disadvantage. I also do not like all the black cladding. [You are gorgeous!, As ever!]
Scotland Watching 🥃📡🥃
@onthebuses From Australia to Scotland, thanks for sticking with us!
This should be at BYD Atto3 price
Its great it can do gentle offroading but that seems to be the only thing it offers over its competitors. It seems too little too late for Toyota.
Since this is Toyota's first EV, it is probably a loss even at this price because of the enormous development costs involved.
The price of an industrial product is development cost + manufacturing cost + profit, which is exponentially lower with sales volume: $50,000 if 100,000 units are sold, $40,000 if 1 million units are sold.
I’ll give Toyota the benefit of the doubt that they could make a decent EV if they wanted to. They could have given this a bigger battery, better charging speeds, and more horsepower. You know, like something competitive. But they didn’t, because they didn’t want to for whatever reason. The risk they take is that by the time they get around to making an honest effort, they might be too far behind. Oh, and they also made it so ugly inside and out, I think that’s almost an objective statement. I mean, it looks like it was in an accident and they didn’t have the right parts to put it back together.
No HUD display! No wireless Carplay! No spare wheel! And ... it's expensive
HUD is useless for abvious reasons here, Carplay and Android auto both available.
Toyota is so far behind current EV technology. The price tag is a joke.
Toyota is definetely pulling a fast one with the BZ4X, thinking "we'll just give people something to stop their whining". I'm so sick of Toyotas bullshit trying to manipulate everyone to do their bidding! I won't buy Toyota even if I was given one for a Dollar!
Would have been brilliant 5 years ago.
Miss.
First 😊
70k?
I feel sorry for anyone buying this car…
@marc9690 Absolutely, Toyota took their sweet time joining the EV race and it looks like they're still warming up! For that price, you'd expect them to lead the pack, not just join it.
Asians 😂cashed up
This thing is already a flop in North America.
it is very ugly, bad design... I would not run to the shop to buy one myself...
I'm curious if she knows that is built by BYD , the whole car. Toyota just put their badge on it.
The new Mazda EV is also built by the Chinese car company GAC ev platform, and Mazda just stick their badge on.
ok good to know, will stick then just with our MG, and save money too...
