This breaks my heart. Truly, it does. I'm 23 now, and I played Halo 3 for the first time online alongside my father Day 1 I got live on the map Guardian. I was young, and it was glorious after HOURS of trying to figure out how to get online working because the wifi devices for it were garbage, only to settle on a cable. I made so many friends in just the span of a year and a half, some I'll never forget, many I haven't seen since 2009-2010. I will always cherish the memories Halo 3 online had brought me all the way up until 2012 before the One X released. Custom Games, matchmaking, Co-Op Campaign, Achievement hunting, being in my VERY first youtube video at such a young age for a glitch guide on how to make scorpion turrets disappear on Sandbox. My father even purchased an Xbox and online so we could play cause we didn't live together, it didn't last long but I was happy that custody wasn't much of an issue. Now, I'm older, jaded, video games make me more depressed than anything due to how far such hobby for me has fallen as it was my only way to cope with many hardships I dealt with growing up. My father's gone, and now Halo 3, and I will always remember the memories I made with the both of them at the same time. Hell I wanna cry as I type this cause its a large chapter in my life thats come to a close and can never be reopened again, and I'm bound to have those memories fade the further time passes. I never realized how important video games were for me as a kid growing up until these lockdowns kept me inside by force (Even now because I'm being denied the ability to work without a vaccine), I'm left with so much time to think and Halo 3 was the thing I used to keep me from dwelling in the depths of my own mind. I remember as a kid, my mother was horrified I'd always talk about being afraid to die, but those thoughts stopped when I wasn't left and I was able to laugh and have fun with people online as I didn't have very many friends growing up, I was the 'weird kid' essentially. You never realize just how good it was until it's gone. I wish all my friends I've made on Halo 3 the best, even if we never gamed together again after 2009 onwards. Hell for all I know we've played in MCC, for all I know they've moved on from gaming and I've trapped myself in an eternal hell of coping mechanisms. It was a fun ride, a ride I hope to never forget.
@@lackingoff7596 I've long since passed the Halo 3 used for coping. It's moreso just about... The fact it's gone now and I'm only just realizing how important it was for me.

You can really tell how much work and effort went into the game. The lobby design, communication with randoms for the sake of just wanting to. Wish this was commonplace with the newer Halo games.
Imagine you’re playing your final Halo 3 matchmade game ever and you spawn quit because you’re still such a petty child that you would abandon your team because of the map that was selected.
I imagine (not that this type of person even has friends) that if they were hanging out playing splitscreen at a friend's house, and they picked a map they didn't like, they'd just call mommy and go home like a little bitch instead of just playing the damn game. I hate this shit so much it's so childish, and it happens in every online game anymore.
Look at the ranks of the people in the lobby , the sweat the hard work we put in to get that far , man this game was amazing one hell of a time to be alive, we won’t ever get this time back one hell of a ride
We need more games with matchmaking like this, I loved the entering a lobby, watch it slowly fill with a bunch of people who didn't know their consoles came with mics, then the map option comes up "VETO" only for it to be 1 vote off, then trash talking comes, then your put on a team with the person you trash talked to just so you can betray them. Then get kicked for betraying... Even with all the problems with this, was still best experience when it came to learning online gaming.

Even the UI is classic. MCC should have bundled each game as-is, swapped between each games as separate experiences. Not this mixed-up mess where they try and Smash-Bros-Ultimate the entire corpus of maps and weapons into one big monstrosity. I’ll never forgive 343 for the death and desacralisation of the series.
Meanwhile, I was playing my last match on Halo Reach, playing CTF in BTB with some of my old crew for the last time. None of us wanted the match to end so we all just kept killing each other until the last 2 minutes of the match when we all sent each other messages and said gg on killing each other. Thank you Generalkidd for streaming the last few moments of 360 Halo and posting this video of one of the matches of 360 Halo 3, you are a Hero to the community, I may have missed the first Wholesome match you played but I saw the rest, even the end even when my computer crapped out just before the end of the Warthog Run thus I missed it, and I had to use my phone for the last few minutes, I still saw the end. This here is one of the last records of Halo on the 360, never again will we experience Halo 3 as it originally was, never again could we truly bring ourselves to open up Halo3 on the 360 and play it again, never again will Halo be the same. These days may be over but with MCC we can still play the old Halo even if they're not same, but we must be strong, we must push forward, we must fight for the community we forged all those years ago on the First Halo Ring, and for those Spartans that went missing along the way, we must fight for them. Halo on the 360 may be over, but the fight is far from over Halo still exists and there for we are still needed, come on my fellow Spartans let us fight for our game, for our community and for our fellow Spartans both active and missing because Spartans Never Die They Just Go Missing In Action. This day really gives a whole new meaning and perspective to Lord Hood's speech at the end of Halo 3, I will not quote it as it will take a long time, just know that while this community lives Halo will never die, Halo will survive through us, fight on my fellow Spartans, I'll see you all on the battlefield, both Wargames and against the enemies of Humanity. I still can’t believe that today is the last time we will ever get to play Halo 3, Halo Reach, and Halo 4 multiplayer. It makes me sad. All the memories that were made on these games, all the friends that were made, it’s sad, but hopefully there will be a bright future for Halo.
Halo 3, reach, 4, as made by bungie will never be seen again… and with that it will fade into myth. Come on at least one of us has to be a millionaire who can just buy off the servers and get them running.

Totally tearing up. Still angry at myself i forgot the 13th was the last day and didn't get on to play. Even if i didn't stay on till shut down. Either way something about actually watching a group of guys just stop playing just to make that last moment in time last as long as they could really hits man. Still can't believe its been 15 years. Farewell Halo 3 and rest in peace. Halo 3 2007 - 2022
This is an incredibly strange feeling surrounding the Halo 3 Servers shutting down. I grew up playing this game (I still play Halo 3 on MCC all the time) and have so many fond memories playing with friends. This situation has never happened to a game that I cherished and enjoyed so much. I feel genuine sadness that the servers are finally being put to rest. Logging onto the 360 to play one more match was incredibly nostalgic. Halo 3 was one of a kind, never forget.
This really brings back some fond memories of playing with my friends back in the day. We were some of the first players online when the game first released. We got online at about 9 or 10am central European time (3 or 4am eastern time) 9/25/2007. There was literally only a few people online. We lived in Germany because our parents were military. We got our copy of Halo on the base that morning and it was the US version. I still have all our old map forges and saves going back to day one. Truly an end of an era.
We had great times halo 3 I will miss you. you helped me through school and got me interested into the halo books without you I would be a different man. Although you are gone you will live within our hearts and minds rest easy old friend.
Unfortunately I didn't get to enjoy the last hoorah for halo 3, my 360 has been inactive since 2015. I hope all of you played your hearts out like it was 2007. So happy to have been a part of this era.
Its strange. Bungie made such a unique gaming culture bloom for so long. There are so many memories and maps on this game its unbelievable. The last time I had fun with a halo game. Its was a good run and nothing can compare to those moments. One of the only time I ever felt like I had real friends was because of Halo 3. Games today don't bring people together like that anymore. Its always way more competitive than it needs to be. Halo was always about having fun with each other, not always against each other. Games now just don't carry that same attitude. Specially now with loot boxes, pay to win, ect. There is a charm in the games from 2001-2008 that just can't be matched. The technology was at its peak and there was no fluff. You just got games. Solid straight forward games that anybody could pick up and play after a few hours. No DRM, no season pass, no membership program. Just Xbox live, the game disc and you. With the death of these servers, so too do we see the death of an epoch, a paradigm, a zeitgeist. This new world is bleak and transitory, and the old world will stay what is now. Beyond Heroic...."Legendary".
First game i played on the 360, and man i was in awe of the graphics and gameplay back then. I was probably around 7-8 back then but man. Playing the campaign and watching my older brothers play online, great memories.
I spent a whole hour running around town going to different game shops to buy halo 3 and when I got home with the game finally in my hand I was an hour too late Couldnt get one more halo 3 game in all cause my original copy didn’t work anymore.
Looking back at this looks like a whole past life ago in 07, like its eternal or something and I finally returned, but I'm also surprised I could be reminded of something so old, yet also shocked it's still there. Its a miracle
I hope this video blows up for years to come. It was a historic moment, and I'm glad to say I gave my final respects to both 3 and reach before an era ended.

I’m not crying, I spilled gamefuel… In my eyes. The most beautiful part is that y’all weren’t fighting in the end. Red team and Blue team held hands and walked into that abyss together.

We're all so sad and hurt that it's shutting down, but not a single one of us paid any attention to Halo 3 in the last 10 years. This might be my first actual gaming related real regret in my life. I wish I never got rid of my copy of Halo 3 now and could've participated in the final matches today.
On my last match both teams are not killing, we are just muck about and are having fun, half way through the match one of the players fines out that the end has come, and this will be are last ever match on Halo 3, when it came to the last 30 seconds or so we all started shooting in the air.
About two weeks ago I went onto halo reach grifball and there were still people grinding for credits. I asked one of them why there were still doing it and had to break the news to him that the servers were going offline in two weeks. Poor bloke
Played till we got booted. We got the halo 3 gang back together for one last time, some of which I hadn’t played with for 10 years. We all got jobs, some got families and couple that with timezone differences the stars just never aligned for us all to be on at the same. But we all made time to see off the game that started it all. You don’t miss it till it’s gone
Man, I was too young and my parents wouldn’t let me play it back when halo 3 was new, but I snuck watching my sister and cousin playing it and I still remember it from back then. It’s sad to see something like this end
Kind of a weird thing to reference, but this reminds me of this scene from the Star Wars Holiday Special set in the cantina. Business as usual, until the bartender announces “the Empire is closing us down!” followed by the musical number with the bar-goers having one final drink before leaving.
On my end, the last match was big team CTF on Valhalla. After us blues swayed up stream with the flag, we gathered round the the base flag, spun & crouched around before finally scoring the winning point. After that, we pressed x to party up, but ended up back in the lobby. We found matches twice, but the search reset when it went to map selection. And then it stopped. Sat there for a moment at the matchmaking menu before I got the message that for whatever reason, 4 was still (although in a watered down state) online. Closed the game & hopped over to help people with achievements.
In the end both the red and blue teams finally came together a moment of peace before the servers shut down forever R.I.P OG Halo 3 multiplayer 2007-2022

It was a fun ride, a ride I hope to never forget.
sorry for your lose of your father and coping mechanism.
I gave a thumbs up to make your day or night a little brighter or safer.
@@lackingoff7596 I've long since passed the Halo 3 used for coping. It's moreso just about... The fact it's gone now and I'm only just realizing how important it was for me.
Crazy how I’m 23 and almost had the exact experience with first online match in guardian and taking long to connect to online figuring it out how it worked. Even down to being against vaccines.
@@LEGOAgenda I'm not even against Vaccines, I support em. I just don't believe I should be mandated to inject myself with something I can't reverse and has little time investment of research into it. I should be able to live a normal life, now I'm on a dollar store food diet to make sure I don't lose the ability to pay bills cause Groceries? Pfft, forget about it, 300$ to fill a cart with the BASICS.
You can really tell how much work and effort went into the game. The lobby design, communication with randoms for the sake of just wanting to. Wish this was commonplace with the newer Halo games.
They are making it harder and harder for people to socialise
Imagine you’re playing your final Halo 3 matchmade game ever and you spawn quit because you’re still such a petty child that you would abandon your team because of the map that was selected.
I imagine (not that this type of person even has friends) that if they were hanging out playing splitscreen at a friend's house, and they picked a map they didn't like, they'd just call mommy and go home like a little bitch instead of just playing the damn game. I hate this shit so much it's so childish, and it happens in every online game anymore.
I was there, and it was glorious.
Proof
I wish I could have witnessed such a beautiful yet pain event for my self🥺😭...
Same! I have the same game in a montage on my channel
Yeah everyone I played with was so nice

Honestly it wasn’t the time, but the people we met that made it so great.
RIP OG Halo 3 Matchmaking
We need more games with matchmaking like this, I loved the entering a lobby, watch it slowly fill with a bunch of people who didn't know their consoles came with mics, then the map option comes up "VETO" only for it to be 1 vote off, then trash talking comes, then your put on a team with the person you trash talked to just so you can betray them. Then get kicked for betraying...
Even with all the problems with this, was still best experience when it came to learning online gaming.
My first match on h3 was snow bound & it's even crazier that the last game to ever be was on snowbound . Will miss it the good old days were I made friends as a teenager my best friend who passed away me & him got a 50 in doubles I got him his first 50 I was into mlg heavy .

Me too.
Rip the best times of my life on H3, Reach, and even Halo 4 with me only playing Swat.
This is probably the saddest moment of all gaming history. We lost 3 games today. Halo 3 and halo reach. Probably the 2 most influential games ever.
so sad
Awe man I didn't know reach shut down too ☹☹☹
Wait reach was today? I missed it f***
i still remember getting halo reach the day it came out me and my childhood best friend would play it EVERY DAY after school along with my brother. countless memories were made and i can even replay them in my mind to this day.. sad to these these titles go offline :(

This is amazing to see how two rival teams come together to celebrate the last seconds of their favourite game goodbye halo 3 and the wonderful memories We all made
I unfortunately don't have the 360 Halo games but I still have great memories of this era. Sandtrap was my favorite map, I loved the origins of griffball, and i will never forget it.
I saw this first in the Livestream and now seeing it again in this video still hits hard. Rest easy 360 Halo you served us well for nearly 15 years, but now your time is done. Everyone in this lobby are Heroes to the Halo community and there names should never be forgotten.

Your Gamertags Your Names are forever etched into Halo History for your actions this day and for remaining until the end. And an honorable mention to Suro Inzanery and LockJaw7192 for being there, even it was brief to not at all, you all are Heroes of the Community and you wont be forgotten but those who saw your deeds and witnessed the events of this day. Crazy that those people left because of snowbound without knowing they wouldn't be able to find another match ever again.
My favorite one personally.

I agree.
funny how the last multiplayer spartan we will ever see on 360 has the classic mark v helmet

Kind of a weird thing to reference, but this reminds me of this scene from the Star Wars Holiday Special set in the cantina. Business as usual, until the bartender announces “the Empire is closing us down!” followed by the musical number with the bar-goers having one final drink before leaving.
My last match was team slayer on valhalla. Met ARICHASSASSIN on that final match. What a send off to a game that changed gaming as a whole.

Why?
The matchmaking screen is nostalgic.
In the end both the red and blue teams finally came together a moment of peace before the servers shut down forever
