Developer Commentary:
Yes yes you saw that right, you have the full tech tree of units unlocked by mission 4. The entire idea of redux is that I have distilled the vanilla covert ops experience into a delicious, bold, and heavily concentrated reduction. We do not sit around waiting for mission 8/9 to get the guns stuff, it is here now and it is raring to go. The only thing you’ll notice is the tech options for these later units may be a bit sparse until later missions.
The garrisons: You may think it’s bs that I didn’t add a ramp for the Goliaths to get to the reaper spot on the right. However, it’s grants fault. Not because he didn’t put jump jets on the Goliath, it’s because he didn’t put jump jets on any mech units. The mech options will swap around to try and pair reapers with whatever you have jump jets on, Goliath is just the default. Grant is entirely right about why I did this to the garrisons though, it’s total bs that you’re not able to play mech on this mission. Plus when I decided to move the Goliath unlock up a mission I knew I really had to do something about this.
Optimized Logistics is quite good. It honestly might be leaving the SCV given the instant “this is the best option” that Grant and others have had. I personally never felt it was strictly necessary and often put logistics on other things in my playthroughs.
Predators continue to be wonderful but I don’t think I’ll be able to get them in a garrison. 😅
The Psi Distrucktor was invented because Mrkisawesome (playtester) just told me the bonus sucks and it needs to be more worthwhile than medics and bonus tech. Well I decided that medics were nice for bio plays but we needed something for mech plays, hence the idea of the truck. The truck will be getting a small movement speed bonus but it will remain slower than the rest of the army.
Micro section: I like…moved the recovery terminals around to be less garbage than in vanilla. In vanilla they literally place one of the terminals five feet away from the objective point that fully restores Nova. I frankly don’t even remember adding more ghosts but I don’t doubt that I did.
I am interested, is it possible to mix garrisons? Like 4 marines, 1 helion. Or "breaching" the limit: garrison with all but 1 marauder and then garrison a tank?

@@prometheus3375 Nope, once you put in the first unit it only shows the one unit. It was too difficult to give that level of functionality, it also would have weird edge cases like "what if they have two marauders? Do you let them add the siege tank to finish it? Then that's too many units!". However if you're playing both mech and infantry, you're more than welcome to put 3 hellions in one and 6 marines in another

Man this mod is tough. Thats the fastest restart I've seen Grant make.
This is the future now: You don't force restarts with instant death traps, you force restarts by adding cool things that have so many options you have to go back and respec your loadout.

YAY! One of my biggest complaints about Nova: Covert Ops has always been that by the time you get the BC, you're basically done. Orca has made it possible to play around with it a lot more!
My complaint about SC2 in general
I want a mod for wol that lets you roll your upgrades over to your next playthru & removes most of the restrictions so you can eventually unlock almost everything, with increased difficulties to match. I played the second mission w battlecruisers only recently & it kicked ass
I was basically about to say the same thing, Orca was like, “they give you the BC very late in Nova: Covert Ops, so heck with that.”
@@tabula_rosa the archipelago mod was fun for that, as you can roll BCs very early on and then just try to survive until you can get one out on missions like The Outlaws
@@tabula_rosa at least in Mobius mod, you can input a code to unlock all early and it is nightmare difficulty.

The mission allows mech instead of bio, and unlocks more units and upgrades more early on. Nova Covert Ops have a huge problem where although it has a lot of advanced, cool units, the time you unlock those units and upgrades are too late and cannot experiment. Orca is a genius
also base predators have 140 health, these have 250, thats almost as tanky as the HotS Aberration
They also clump together more in this mod. Makes their splash damage stack more, but makes a predator comp super vulnerable to baneling.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE co-op...I just can't help by wonder what new mission packs we missed out on when the dev team changed course to focus on co-op development. Nova covert ops was so awesome, I wish we'd gotten something similar for Protoss and zerg.

This mod seems to have the strong point of greatly expanding replayability of Covert Ops, by adding way more options.
Which is nice.
In co-op mod, there are even more options. But bc in 4 mission... spicy.
Is this a sign that we might get «Wings of liberty: Covert Ops» at some point? I hope so, it feels like its that and «Nova Covert Ops: Wings of Liberty» thats missing from the campaign swap lineup.
I love the instant reload for predators
i looked it up, according to the wiki, normally predators have 140 hp, 1 armor, 15 damage and cost 100/100 and take 3 supply.
Their shockwaves also deal 20 splash damage, clocking their single target dps at 35 (1 second attack cooldown).
Really the predator’s stats were fine for a factory unit. The real reason this unit sucked was the cost. 100 gas, 3 supply, needs a tech lab,AND 40 build time on a melee unit? Wtf!? I’d rather just build a vulture if I need splash mech at that point(Hellion is also an option but Vultures and their mines are better)
This mod is insanely hard it made Grant restart without even throwing a single enemy unit at him
I am sooo looking forward to jumpjet tanks. Bet they can jump up and siege apart protoss' starships!
Jumpjet tanks is in vanilla I think.

Putting the alternate objectives put a HUGE smile on my face, seeing the options to put insane mech units in the garrisons sounds like an absolute blast. For the Hellions, it would've been interesting to do like a massive fire spray in a cone rather than a line to improve their capabilities as a garrison
As someone else mentioned the bunker upgrades (that are also missile turret upgrades) are on the scv
Of course the flashbangs are op, Grant. They allow Nova to wield a fraction of the power of Mira Davis.

have you seen the new custom campaign, Solitude? it feels like a diablo game set in the sc universe, but using the crew mod rules -- where you find & collect marine suits (& other stuff) that you hop in and out of, upgrading each one (& losing them) individually, with a squad control system that is both shockingly simple and deep. it's super unique, one of the best times ive had in starcraft
it also has kickass music. sometimes you'll kick in the door to a compound & start dumping machinegun fire thru the entryway to the sound of the screams of the enemy inside as metal music plays

So nice of Orcawarrior to put in predator and its upgrades specifically for Grant.
Grant completely forgetting that the bunker upgrade is the SCV one is the most Grant moment of the video...that's what i would say, if not for the legendary Psi Distructor.
Now i wonder how are some of the missions changed in regards of the bonus objectives

A suggestion for future mids: Ghosts in the stealth segments behaving like the guards from Commandos: seeing their fellow comrades die will instantly make them rush there and just see around, sound the alarm and maybe throw a few EMP for good measure, rather than just standing around like "yeah, must've been the wind".
Something I feel like would be nice for a equipment for hellbats and predators as an option would be something like the Juggernaut Plating from the Nightmare mod that makes them immune to baneling acid.
I tried that and got a resounding no from my playtesters. They called it a waste of an upgrade slot and I agree. Would rather something else be on those units.

I wonder what cloaking device on SCVs does. Does it make the SCV itself invisible or does it affect the bunkers and missile turrets like the spider mine upgrade?
The bell simply gives those who ring it notifications when you upload/stream on youtube, it's not that important unless you're allergic to using the subscriber feed or have too many subscriptions at least that's what I've gathered from my personal experience.
So, if super fast SCVs is kind of OP... does that mean NovertOps:Redux silly challenges are on the table? y'know since it'll be hard but not -too- annoying and gives you more options to play round with

That's kind of the reason why there's no real stuns in versus. (Units with matrix still can move and micosed units can shoot back) It would be very one-sided and frustrating
I wonder if part of the reason you get autogas is to make it theoretically viable to not always just get scv logistics
"Where'd my bunker upgrades go?" Unfortunately, they have been sacrificed for the glory that is... the bois are quick and cheap. A worthy change. (They're tied with scv upgrades grant xD)
SCV and spidermines upgrade gave the bunkers spidermines.
This here is an example of why the player base is never out of ideas for improvements to the SC2 campaigns/missions. :P
Well, they gave you the Battlecruiser, I guess you're going Battlecruisers.
Honestly, jump jets is really good on scvs for this mission. Building turrets and bunkered reapers on the high ground was key to high difficulty 3 player. Not saying it is required, but when 3p redux hits,i expect it being useful on at least one player.
There's no high ground positions near your base in this mission (Those are exclusive to 3p)

I think the problem with the predator is it actually has some high value scenarios. So then you can't balance its cost or other stats without it being absurd in those situations. It's kind of like a high templar except the situations its aoe is good is much more rare so the drawbacks feel bad. You could remove its aoe damage, but that would be kinda lame and make it too generic. Maybe making its aoe an active instead of on attacks.
PS: I feel it would be great to have a place you need put goliath in :D

I'm so hype about this mod. Especially ability to add new upgrade into the game IN CAMPAIGN.
Imagine it is possible to put these new upgrade into WoL or HoS or heck even LoV(now with 4 protoss faction).
My guy, modders have been adding new upgrades into campaign for the past year

Idea for the predator Gerson, it spawns set amount of Predators that attack all zerg near by.

Nope she gets hellions in vanilla, they’re just the absolute most useless unit ever. Hellbats can get smart servos to transform faster even.
