as a german it's just unbelievable why you guys have sooo complicated roof designs with like 15 different surfaces and edges to cover. I mean it looks cool but the job would be done in like half the time if you'd just get a simple sloping or saddle roof :D
It's very common on an older home. Back then, you bought what you could afford and then added on as your family grew. I see it a lot here in Florida too.

@@ThisGuysTesla I have a 9.5kW system. My roof is very complicated so I'm only expected to get 11,000 kWh per year. Currently I'm on pace for only 4,500 kWh. It's a huge discrepancy. That's good to know. There should be some reduction due to being close to Winter and lower sun position but this seems excessive. I'll have a look out and def. make a video about the performance of the system.
I'm also evaluating the solar roof in Florida. The system size quoted is for the panels only. There are losses due to cables, inverter and panel orientation. The key number is the quoted yearly production. To estimate the design efficiency, I took their quoted yearly production of 28,017 KWH divided by 365 days times average solar hours for florida. Net size = 28,017 / (365 * 5.69) = 13.5KW. So the quoted 21.6KW system only nets 13.5Kw of power. Eff = 13.5kw / 21.6kw = 62%
@@ThisGuysTesla yes you can assume this time of year will be slightly less than average production but I'm taking that into account also. I'm a big proponent of Tesla so I hope this is a simple issue and not a major screw up on their part.
i hope there is delay built-in before transfering power from the power wall because refrigerator and a/c unit (unless digital inverter compressor) must not turn right away during the transfer.
You are one lucky bastard! I plan on doing the same thing but mine is going inside my garage. My power walls Inverters etc. I was wondering if I don’t have drywall inside my garage with the install of those connections inside the wall and then I can drywall around them just like the fuse panel so nothing is sticking out of the drywall?
Yeah, I’m concerned about keeping a roughly organized look. I’ve read that in cooler climates they prefer the batteries to be in conditioned spaces. I wonder is some of the transfer boxes or inverters could be outside. I wouldn’t mind the powerwall itself inside in a living space, but I’d like more of the heavy conduit and various gray boxes outside.
Maybe it was part of the contract / terms. ... I give you a nice discount, but this project has to be a training zone for my employees. Also, we get to have a bbq outing for the company on the roof during lunch time...
if you can imagine how much just shingles cost these days, plus panels, and the look is not optimal, then the roof is the way to go - especially if you are building a new house.
Well, they are supposed to be hail proof. Sturdier than tile or slate roof, so yeah, good thing it can take a kick. Slate or tile probably wouldn't be able to handle a kick like that.
We stomp on the panels because the metal prongs behind them are big while the feet we’re putting them on are small *We measure each tile to secure proper feet position* yes it’s procedure to stomp on these...From the glass tiles to PV tiles...They can withstand a swing of a hammer for sure. Some coworkers slightly mush the tiles in with a shove of their foot ... I stomp on everything😂💪🏽💫
The roof have waves can be fixed only needs just overlay redecking but this roofers looks like the only learn how to install the panels. If the have a high wind one time the panel can be damage and put the integrity of the roof in risk. I hope Tesla need to redesign how to install the panels o talk with the roofing contractor to do a 100% correctly no bumps o weak spots in the roof. I’m a roofer installer no contractor but always make sure my the costumers get what the pay . A good satisfying final product!
can the electric that is created be sent back into the electric grid so the power company can buy it back? How costly is this system? How long are the batteries good for & what will it cost to replace them? Thanks great video.
I put my 100$ down and got on the wait list around April of 2019 and my project (roof plus three power walls) started in February of 2020. Unfortunately, due to Tesla communication errors, my system has never been fully up and running for more than a week. Every Tesla employee who I have met has been completely professional and competent, but communication can come from Las Vegas, Palo Alto, or from your local region. I can only guess that their growing pains are most magnified in unbelievably poor communication and project management. My original local PM was fired along with many others in the NE recently. I get so many mixed messages and unanswered messages that I exhausted. One of my inverters keeps failing and I am paying giant electric bills but I have a sharp looking roof. I still feel confident that eventually the work will get done but I have a different crew here every other week and I have had my PTO from my utility since April! Just have to stay patient and pray….very frustrating and very unlike the Tesla image portrayed everywhere.
The fact that I just watched some guy kicking one of the roof panels 4:15 in to place almost made me spit my food out of the mouth while I was eating. I would have been telling that guy, WTF are you doing kicking one of my Tesla tiles?!?!?!?!?!?????!!!!!!
Great job telling the story in your edit, but something seems odd about the installation crew and I can't quite place it. I mean... notice how everyone has bright shiny new boots, toolbelts and tools. At times I count at least eight people up on the roof and only a couple are actually doing something. I know the footage is only a few seconds at a time but, it's every time. That might explain the week+ for installation. Being in commercial construction myself, I would be going nuts seeing what's going on outside my house. I would have to leave and trust they do a good job. I hope everything works out for you in the end. Also, it would be interesting to see a cost breakdown with all the incentives plus, before and after comparison of your electrical usage.
I only learned later, that there was actually an additional shadow crew (new hires) on the roof, that was trained by the more experienced guys. There was a lot of "on-the-job training" going on. I'll show that in the upcoming video.
@@ThisGuysTesla Okay, that makes sense. Usually in the past when the entire crew looks shiny and new, the inexperience starts to show in the quality and efficiency of the work soon after. I'm happy for you and a little jealous of your new stuff.
Good luck to any normal thief to steal a powerwall, they would have to disconnect it in the right places and remove it off that wall... Impossible to do fast and would probably take a long time
Is any homebuilder offering Tesla roofs as an option yet? If not, it seems to me that this is still in beta. Because on a new house, the extra installation is avoided and you don’t need to design the roof for every single house, as generally they have many homes with a particular roof layout.

I juist don’t understand how they can make a install like this profitable. Look at all the contracters on site. Its mindblowing.
They are ramping. 3 crews on one roof to train and expand the roll out.
Maybe it was part of the contract / terms.
... I give you a nice discount, but this project has to be a training zone for my employees. Also, we get to have a bbq outing for the company on the roof during lunch time...
Is this the house that leaked and they had to take the roof off twice?
nope
But maybe it is this the house that leaked and they had to take the roof off three times
if you can imagine how much just shingles cost these days, plus panels, and the look is not optimal, then the roof is the way to go - especially if you are building a new house.
SF Valley? Great Presentation thanks for posting... I want one!!!
Really good job putting this together! Enjoy your roof!
This dudes looks like watch dogs characters
at 4.15 could that guy kick the tiles any harder
Good to know the tiles are sturdy.
Well, they are supposed to be hail proof. Sturdier than tile or slate roof, so yeah, good thing it can take a kick. Slate or tile probably wouldn't be able to handle a kick like that.
How many months you will reach the ROI for this?
We stomp on the panels because the metal prongs behind them are big while the feet we’re putting them on are small *We measure each tile to secure proper feet position* yes it’s procedure to stomp on these...From the glass tiles to PV tiles...They can withstand a swing of a hammer for sure. Some coworkers slightly mush the tiles in with a shove of their foot ... I stomp on everything😂💪🏽💫
Well.. you did see the roll out of the Telsa Cybertruck? The glass was suppose to be break proof.. Opps...
Congratulations! Nice setup!
Thank you! Cheers!
Man Tesla is just an awesome company
This is a bad ass documentary!
The bit about the trash is pretty classy.
crazy labor. this is a luxury product.
Thank you for your videos..
Cool they took care of the garbage , that is awesome!
can the electric that is created be sent back into the electric grid so the power company can buy it back? How costly is this system? How long are the batteries good for & what will it cost to replace them? Thanks great video.
It does. I have videos about that here: ruclips.net/video/abyQeGIQ4JA/видео.html and here: ruclips.net/video/Brim6qp26js/видео.html
Congrats on getting your system installed.
Thank you!
It's okay I saw review they are very durable
This is the dream. Charge your car with solar, plus all the other benefits.
That's the time when an electric car truly becomes clean, energy source from renewable energy.
The fact that I just watched some guy kicking one of the roof panels 4:15 in to place almost made me spit my food out of the mouth while I was eating. I would have been telling that guy, WTF are you doing kicking one of my Tesla tiles?!?!?!?!?!?????!!!!!!
The stiles get kicked into the metal hinges by a rubber shoe. We show how the tiles hook in in this video: ruclips.net/video/97nPyMl9TLw/видео.html
Gut Anlage 👍👍
If the roof has a higher value then the house ;) ....great information thank you for sharing - looks still very complicated to pull it off.
the land "outvalues" both the roof and the house :)
Should the power walls and switchboards be mounted under more roof/Veranda protection from weather ?
Awesome video man.
Well done thx for the information and great shots.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I hope they put a lightening arrestor and earthing. Did not see that in the video.
Thanks for the video dude! How's it performing?
still waiting on the city and utility company to clear the way for powering on the system
@@ThisGuysTesla they always take forever lol
Outstanding.
It's our planet welldone !!
Amazing roof, Please keep us posted
Really professional work
Serious question, what if your house burns down? Is this covered by homeowners?
It is
Great crew, good job guys
Did you have to remove the rain gutter for the installation of the Tesla Roof?
Nope.
I’d be worried someone would steal the power walls since they are so expensive. I’d probably hide the Tesla logo on them or put a cage around it. 🤣
That shit is super heavy and almost impossible to steal with out time and knowing where to disconnect
Good luck to any normal thief to steal a powerwall, they would have to disconnect it in the right places and remove it off that wall... Impossible to do fast and would probably take a long time
Solar roof = Tesla monitoring the world 😱
Is any homebuilder offering Tesla roofs as an option yet?
If not, it seems to me that this is still in beta. Because on a new house, the extra installation is avoided and you don’t need to design the roof for every single house, as generally they have many homes with a particular roof layout.
Does Tesla remove panels for free to redo the roof
