  • Shorter video this week. I was only on site for two days so I could finish up the steel fabrication off site. I did not film a lot of the fab because it really was just more of the same. I did timelapse putting plates on the top and bottom of the beams to get them ready to ship. I'll be back with some great footage for next week which finished with a ton of visual progress. Thanks as always for watching and if you're new here I hope you stick around as there is just a ton of cool stuff coming up.

I like the fact that you keep everything as level and straight as possible. Even the temporary handrails. 😀

Me too! I remind myself every day on this one to be careful. The weird angles are tricky, there's either a lot more or a lot less behind you than normal so it throws you off.

Unreal, It definitely had different plans than I did for where it wanted to go:-) It was just as bad having to rewatch it a couple times too. Thanks for tuning in.

I enjoy having a front row seat Jake! Thanks for memorializing your project. Wet steel, on wet forks on a wet day.....unloading on a grad.....Clearly your not happy, but it could have been on the third floor! Just glad you weren't hurt. Like the man below says....it happens to the best of us! Looking forward to the next post!

Love your videos. Something I really admire about them is the safety measures you take to make sure you're safe. Thought it was kind of funny though when you made sure the safety rail posts were plumb, lol. Never seen someone do that before. They usually just plop them up even if they decide to put up safety rails in the first place. I think you making sure they were plumb just shows the type of craftsman you are. Definitely someone I'd consider hiring if I needed something built.

It's funny you notice that, I usually wouldn't do anything except just mark the spots so it was level but there is just so much long open area and corner spots with guard rail that if I didn't do that it would just look super wonky on top of everything being at 30* which makes it odd to the eye already. I'm not normally that fussy:-)

This looks like it is going to be an amazing home when it is done. As someone without construction experience, I wonder how the wood sub-flooring is not being destroyed by all of the exposure to rain. It seems that it is raining and wet the majority of the days during this build. Won't the sub-floor plywood swell and warp or have the various layers delaminate? It seems like it would be ruined before completion.

    • @ShredPile

It will survive, it always does. If there’s anything that really needs attention I’ll replace it. It’s an unfortunate part about building in this area and it’s definitely not optimum but it’s just how it goes.

The stringers look undersized and need 4 stringers instead of 3. Not sure what state you're in but those would never pass inspection around here.
