Hi Kevin thank you for taking the time to make this video, I’m 78 and still am not sure if I want to try to add the resin, It’s the regerating part I don’t understand, but your video is the best one out there. I’m 78 year old woman and I will have to watch this A few times. Thank you for your time and great effort .
I have watched two other videos on how to maintain a water softener, and now this one, which is specific to my make and model. All three videos have had some very valuable information, but I am so glad I came across your video! I am going to the store now, because until recently, I didn’t even know that maintaining a non-electrical appliance was even a thing! We’ve had this house for 20 years, and I don’t know that the previous owners ever took care of it, either! So 30+ years of no maintenance! Maybe that’s why on occasion, our water briefly tastes like brine!!! I will follow up with an update later.
Kevin, I changed the filter to my kenitco system, and I guess the filter wasn't changed in years. It had a thick layer of slime on it. Rinsed out the housing and inserted a new filter screwed it back on. Now I have no water flow through the to the house. My bypass is off and the valves to the filter and softener are open. I am stumped to get water flow going again through the system. With bypass open and softener/ filter closed water is flowing strong.
Hello appreciate your video and time. I have followed your instructions and replaced resin bed in my model 60 kinetico. Unfortunately water is still testing hard .. Bypass valve seems to be functioning properly. I've also checked the power head and it seems to be functioning okay however I'm currently at a loss . Any ideas ? I'd certainly appreciate it. Dan
I would suspect a problem in the valve head.It takes very little to stop them from working. Does it still advance the metering disc and regen automatically?
@@ClaremontClassicGarage Hello ... Yes, seems to be Advancing on its own and going thru cycles. I have checked line for suction at brine tank and that seems good .. Resin was replaced last weekend. Tested water a few hours after replacing and it Tested very hard . I would have thought directly after resin replacement unit would have Tested okay as at that time a backwash of resin wouldn't have been needed. Makes me think water is somehow bypassing ?
@@halfcabnut321 I wonder if you need to treat and regen again? I have problems with my water occasionally tasting like brine, so maybe I need to service the valves, too? Will get back to you on if just servicing the resin tanks is sufficient or not… But I’m kind of wondering if your system didn’t totally flush? Keep in mind that I am not a real plumber or anything…
The filter i replaced measured 2.5in x 20in. Its an older system not newer. With bypass off and softener and filter lines open... i should get the same flow as when its in bypass mode. Any ideas??? On what caused water flow to stop. Thanks
The instructions on mine don't mention running it a 3rd and 4th time. Only twice with the resin cleaner in each tank. Is it necessary to run them both again?
Because the instructions assume that you have a standard one chamber softener. If you have a Kinetico you have two chambers so you have to manually regen 4 times to make sure you get them both twice.
How long does brine and backwash cycle go on? Mine is 3 yr old and disk has 5 written on it. The problem is when it goes to Brine, the dot hardly moves. I observed for whole night and still it was in Brine cycle with around 20% movement done.
The whole process should take around 30 minutes. You likely have a blocked port or two in the control valving. Check my other Kinetico videos. There is a video or two detailing stripping, cleaning and reassembling the control valve assembly.
@@ClaremontClassicGarage thanks for the video. I was able to open it with ur help. One question, the ceramic plate has holes that controls flow, do they need to be all clear when open? I see only 6 holes open. Others are close. I tried to see if any debris in those but looks like they are close with some solid surface inside.
Yes, but they are getting very pricey. I keep saying $4000 for a new one in my videos, but one viewer corrected me. They are now in the $6K range. YIKES !
You need to take apart the control head. There is likely a bit of debris in one of the tiny ports. Worst case, it needs a reseal, but most likely cause is debris.
Yes, I live in Orange County, in California. They wanted $3900 for a refurbished system with only 5 year warranty. I have a phone number and name of a couple of people from Kinetico if you want to verify.
I just paid $11k for mine it’s 4 large tanks then the 2.5gal reverse osmosis reserve tank for drinking water that’s filtered through the whole system then a reverse osmosis system as drinking water.

There are probably a few videos that deal solely with the regen if you search around you can probably find something.

take it back apart. Sometimes the filters are very tightly wrapped in light plastic that you literally can't see. maybe its that blocking your flow.
Thanks Kevin. Great vid!

I just got a water softener system. I’m in NC. My tanks are 5’ tall give or take. Why are mine so big?
I'm not really sure. There are so many options and variables.

Can I use water in the house while I'm running the re-gen cycles?
yes
That unit looks well made compared to my modern GE. Are they made the same nowadays?

Why is my kinetico system continues to keep running up to 8 hours, does not shut off?
You need to take apart the control head. There is likely a bit of debris in one of the tiny ports. Worst case, it needs a reseal, but most likely cause is debris.
Would kinetico buy back my system?
No idea. You would have to ask them. they may take as trade on a new one.
I dont think mine is metering ;( manually moving to diffident settings sound like usual but i haven't heard it work in a week or so.,
Sounds like an orifice in the control head is plugged. Usually taking them apart and cleaning everything will resolve these issues.
Will this go back setting after you run it this?
Yes, after the manual regens it continues to run automatically.
