Actually that's only true of Barry. Conway Stern already planned on betraying Archer(twice) despite his disdain for him. Other than that I can't think of any other enemies he made that came back for him.
The funny thing was that Archer couldn't have physically done anything about it. What was he supposed to do? Lift 180+ pounds of Barry up by the legs, grab him with his one remaining arm, and hoist him over? While his other arm was probably on the verge of snapping from having to pull up a total of some 360+ lbs of weight?
Its funny. When you think about it, despite their differences and obvious history, Barry is Archer's best friend. Even when they're fighting, they're talking like two friends shooting the shit with each other.
Its probably more to do with how much of a dick Archer was being, if he was more normal to Barry here he may have realised it was just a bad accident instead of hating Archer completely for it
I feel like archer was only at fault for the bad idea. Archer didnt control that his boots were slipping, Barry didnt need archers permission to try to climb up him..
I mean the fact archer was being a dick about the whole thing was what pissed barry off the most. I mean it was a scuffed situation but archer was being an ass ×10 about him falling so, I'd be pretty livid at the callous jag-off.
I love how this jumping scene is an homage to Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid when they were on the run and jumped down a cliff into water with the same "ooooohhhh shiiiiiiiit" :D From that moment on I fell in love with the series Archer
I said the exact thing 7 years ago. This isn’t the only scene that referenced Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. RDR2 had almost the exact same cliff jumping scene with Arthur and Dutch.
in Archers defense, he did rip his very expensive suit. And then he had 200 pounds of asshole hanging off of him. And then he took his silk socks and shoes with him after Archer gave him GOOD ADVICE about how to land in the garbage container.. So it's Barry's fault Archers feet got all cut up. Archer - Yeah, BARRY...
Right when they jump...has to be a reference to a scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. They were running from bounty hunters and Sundance didn't want to jump
Archer did his best to save Barry's life. He held his feet up to keep his boots from falling off, even with 200 pounds of asshole hanging from them. He knew any slight movement would cause them to slip off, plunging Barry to his death, so he made no effort to even save himself as he taunted Barry to keep him from panicing while he looked for a way out. Barry started to panic, Archer snapped him out of it with one last tramatic taunt, and told him his best possible odds. Archer was a hero. Barry wouldn't have survived otherwise. At least thats the story he told me.
@Irvine Spiegel That is an incredibly astute point. When you examine the scene again with your observations, it DOES make Archer appear the hero. It's a pivotal scene, and gives a great deal of depth to the series. If you look at it one way, Archer made a dick move that caused Barry to fall and barely survive with multiple fractures. Barry, enduring pain and possibly torture as a spy, goes on to have a psychotic DID episode and create a "protector entity", later known as Other Barry, who seeks revenge. OR Archer behaved both as an agent and friend. Did everything correctly, knew that the situation could result in either one, or both, of their deaths. Agent preservation dictates that, should it come to it, Archer *has* to survive and that Barry is sacrificed. But instead Archer makes the moral choice. As you said he keeps Barry's mind occupied to lower panic. He assesses Barry's survival chances, and moves to enable him to land, wounded but alive, in relative safety. Archer can then make good his escape with the mission secured, the pursuers preoccupied with Barry. Top notch agent.
This is why everything, anything, Barry has done to Archer was completely justified. Barry was his ultimate karma. (My favorite was when he made Jakoff explode so Archer could never find out if he was his father).
I love this scene. always gets me laughing. Just like when Barry wakes up to find his leg gone and says in the dead pannest delivery "Oh Jesus, did you even try?" Barry is a villain done right. You even sympathise with him somewhat
I guess the moral is, do not let Archer talk you into doing things, because he is inherently selfish. .. sort of like the woman.. "try this apple, cuz I don't wanna be the only one. The serpent said it was ok."
Probably Archer's fault was for making him jump to begin with. Seeing as there was the distance of a tibia and half a femur between Archer's and Barry's palms, I don't think Archer could have extended his hand to reach and grab Barry. Archer's only possible action would be to hang on, which he did. Barry could have tried to either climb up Archer's boots or taken off one of the boots to grab his bare leg (as disgusting as it may seem) and then climb up Archer (which may have upset Archer for ruinning his clothes but who cares, we all know Archer can be an ass). Archer would have been responsible for Barry's fall if he had tried to kick him down, which he didn't. Instead, Barry was busy asking for Archer's permission (which he didn't really need since it was his own life on the line and Archer couldn't have done much in either case) and wondering why Archer wore silk socks. Archer may have behaved like an ass here, but Barry just let this whole thing happen even though he could have prevented it. So in conclusion: surprisingly enough, Archer wasn't really at fault here.
I hope they drop whoever representation is has to run every casino. I did used to weigh 300 lbs and I guess whoever the make Barry is who was having sex with researchers might think twice about talking about certain parties in Alabama on holidays on radio shows.

Gotta love the genuine bewilderment you can hear in his voice when Barry asks him why he’s wearing silk socks
What's even worse Barry chose literally the worst time to think about Archer's socks.
Archer seems to create his own enemies, who usually come back to bite him in the ass
Like Batman.

I do want to point out that it was unlikely that Archer could have done a whole lot about Barry falling at that point.
