Without that guy on lead guitar "Steve Lukather" .... there is NO Michael Jacksons "Beat It". He wrote and recorded the rhythm sections of that song while Edward Van Halen provided the solo section. This guy has recorded with more artists in sessions than my grandma dated men ... and that was a LOT. Steve is a legend.
Hold the Line is a legendary song !
He didn't write the riff for beat it, Michael wrote the riff he sang it to lukather just saw this in an interview recently, that said lukather is a brilliant musician and one of my guitar hero's
Ur a sick man😂
Well I guess that would also make grandma a legend as well!!
@@danburns4003 Luke modified it, though. He made it better.
Drummer Jeff Porcaro, a legendary talent.
Toto is made up of some of the best session musicians of the time. They played in so many albums for different artists. Steve Lukather on guitar , David Paich on piano, David Hungate on bass , Bobby Kinball on vocals, Steve Porcaro on Keyboards and big brother Jeff Porcaro on drums.
I mean majority of the band was Boz Skaggs band before they were Toto.
You are 100% correct. Along with many many others.
This dude's vocals are nasty and scary good. and Steve Lukather is a badass guitarist
This song is a straight banger!!! I love this song
All of these guys are session musicians and are exceptional with their instruments! Bobby Kimball is lead vocalist in this song, Steve Lukather is the very underrated guitar player, Jeff Porcaro another underrated drummer! They are all amazing!
Jeff Porcaro was the groove master, not an underrated drummer. Period !
@@guyelmouchnino6531 I agree, but he's rarely talked about!
Lukather and Porcaro aren't underrated. They're highly rated and celebrated musicians.
@twelveytwelve they may be talked about by other musicians, but I never see them in the top musicians polls in their instruments! I think they're fantastic at what they do but I never hear orher people talk about them! Maybe I don't know where to look, but I've been keeping track of things like this and both guys weren't even in the top 20, I certainly disagreed. Neil Peart wasn't even in the top 5 of drummers, I didn't agree with that one either.
Another incorrect use of the word "underrated".
Forget "Africa". This is Toto's best song by a mile.
Sorry, Rosanna.
Rosanna is the perfect song. The arrangement and instrument choice along with the bad ass vocals. It's in the top 5 best songs ever
Georgie porgy
I agree! This is my favourite too!!! 🔥🔥🔥
@@TheFairyintheFishBowl it's awesome. So underrated
One of my favorite bands. So many great songs from them
As musicians, I know you guys can appreciate the arrangement of this song and Toto is one tight, tight band. Jeff Porcaro (RIP), the drummer, was one of the most sought after session drummers in all of rock and played on a lot of hits for other artists. All of the guys are great musicians.
Ah - Toto. The best! That is a rather big hole to get into. So much great stuff.
Monster hit in the late 70s. I was a young man at the time. Amazing stuff. Thank you!
One of the 70s greatest ever bands!!!!!!!!
Steve lukather is an amazing guitar player and if I’m not mistaken all these guys were studio session players as well as in this band
Fun story, I went to High School with the Pocaros, Paich, Lukather even their engineer and I couldn't be prouder, I got to witness the early greatness, how about the drummer, Jeff Porcaro, RIP, an absolute prodigy. Have I got some stories!
You were lucky. I recall Paich sitting down for the first time with the Porcaro’s high school group. He joined them for a song and after Paich said man, Jeff, that was great drumming. Drummer said I’m Mike (Jeff’s brother) that’s Jeff (who was just watching). Mike was good but Jeff was phenomenal even as a high schooler. Playing gigs before he was old enough to drive. Man, to be able to hear them back then. Wish someone had tapes.
Loved covering this with the band I was in back in the 80s. It got people up and moving. Toto was absolutely incredible at every position. They were the most sought after studio musicians for almost a decade before forming their own band, and then for decades after. At least one member has played on about half the big hits of the 80s and 90s.
Those were some of the best session musicians in the late 70s which comprised TOTO the guitarist Steve lukather is fire
Love TOTO ...STEVE LUKATHER...ONE OF THE BEST GUITARIST OF ALL TIME
So you're goin' down the Toto rabit hole. This ain't Kansas anymore Toto!
They never were Kansas, they've always been ToTo.......😉
Not the wedding, but the reception, yeah..............
What a track, and I love your chemistry behind it. Super!
❤❤I am so happy I'm old and grew up in the 70/80s best music ❤❤❤❤
Toto - Caught in a balance from their 'Falling in between' live koncert is amazing 🤘
I agree with cindy coy, white sister is just a flat out killer, crazy good vocals, the guitar work is just crushing, piano work is terrific.
One of my favourites song of all time❤ forever a classic🔥
Friend of mine formed a band in Melbourne in the late 90s - he was a huge Toto fan and named his band 'Dorothy's Dog' in their honour. Great name!
Man I remember the first time I heard this on the radio probably 10th grade? And I immediately went in and figured out that piano part but of course I could nowhere near approach that vocal. That is astounding. And I would also say man you guys have to have to have to have to check out around the same era, Jefferson Starship and the song is called Jane and it was a huge hit but I don't know how to describe it other than you must hear it. The singing on it is mind blowing it's in this direction but even more amped up. Just even more. And instrumentally is great everything about it is fantastic.
Ran across my 45 the other day! I got the album, so forgot I still had that! 😂
i was about 7 or 8
78 was a great year for rock
vis bands got about 5 lead singers n songwriters, tooooo much talent
I can’t wait to see Toto on 2/23! They are so epic for 70’s an 80’s fans
In my wheel house born in 65 so i got all this 70s great music ❤
His Vocals are almost just as good in 2024
In 2012 Steve Lukather was in the G3 lineup with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. That says it all.😉
I crank this up every time it comes on the radio…..had the 45 back in the day.
That’s guitar great Steve Lukather on lead.
This was their first hit.
Supergroup right here.
Perfection everywhere you look (and listen).
As musicians I'm sure you understand the hardest thing of all to do is to write hooks. Especially simple effortless ones which hit everybody. These guys did it like no others. More hooks in this one song than in a lot of bands entire careers. Your reactions are the proof!
Really love your reactions guys we are waiting for you in Greece cheers
They are opening for Journeys on their 50th Anniversary tour this year. They should be near you
Love yalls videos! What a great pair!
3:38 This song was AM gold (AM, the radio protocol as opposed to FM). And I remember it being played a lot in the afternoon. Like about 3 or 4pm
Try their best jam, Girl Goodbye off the first album. Heavy, great drum track and a scream that kills.
Toto was one of my first concerts… won tickets on the radio… great memories ❤
And he’s way better now
Try Toto singing White Sister. Great song.
Just seen them open for Journey Sat night in Gboro. They did this one and sounded good still!
Top studio musicians. Group's first hit.
Also check out I'll Supply The Love & 99 by Toto
Youz two is hilarious. And you know good music. Rock on.
Sooo talented!!!!!
This was one of Toto's first hits and it peaked at #5 in 1978!! Truly one banger of a song!! However, I wanted to throw you guys a bone and check out their softer side with two possible suggestions for reaction videos!! Try either I'll Be Over You or I Won't Hold You Back!! You'll get a true sense of their versatility as musicians!! Great reaction guys!!
This was on the radio in 1978 at the height of disco.
These guys were a magician's band I saw them in concert in 80 I was floored nothing but greatness
Love that riff. Thank you for this song. Y'all beautiful ppl.
elite session musicians
My all time fav band. Superb songs. Seen them live 7 times ,followed them since the early 80's... woooohooooooo🎶👍🫶❤️.
Trev and Susie you should dive into their live performances👍👍👍👍👍
In 1982 on their smash Toto IV album there are actually a few other bangers like this. Africa was kind of an outlier. when I bought the album, I was disappointed that there weren’t more songs like Rosanna and Africa. Eventually, I came to appreciate the whole album.
A timeless classic
Hey Guys I would appreciate it you do some more DIO Songs like Last in Line and Stand up and Shout or We Rock.very recommended
Good for you bro 👍❤️🔥
HOld The Line 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Toto is a whole vibe in it self period!!!!
Controversial but I put this above Africa; it's way too good of a banger.
No it wasn’t a wedding song but it was huge in the clubs
I Recomend, "Mushanga"," I Supply the love ", "99", "Angela", "Pâmela"... This band have lots fantastic songs
Steve Lukather is legendary in music, such a great guitarist 🤘🤘
Toto Rosanna is a great song
YESS!!!
You guys would probably love Rosanna too, its another major hit of theirs.
One of my favourite bands (at leat the first 5 albums). Also "TotoIV" is the most popular, I like "Hydra" and "Isolation" a bit more. Listen to the song "Hydra"! You will like it, I believe! Keep on!!
Rosanna is another song you guys have to check out !!! Its great. You will love it
Um, to the guy who suggested this song, there are tons of songs from 78 that stand up to today's music. The late 70s rocked hard!
Toto had quite a few hits in Australia too. They were awezome!!
Toto-Song Rosanna it's about the actress Rosanna Arquette. It's awesome 🔥
Great cover song you should perform for sure!!
Great song! Brings me back. Check out their 'Rosanna" which received a Grammy back in 1982 (or '83) for best arrangement, instruments and vocals. It was also nominated for the Song of the Year award. So much to say about it, but the drumming in this song received the name "The Rosanna Shuffle" which other famous drummers have praised over the years.
Had the album ❤
I was 14 when this came out, the guitarist here is 19 years old. I’m now 58 and am going to see them in April.
One of the best intros EVER.
Probably the most talented band and most recorded of all times. Steve Lukather is probably the most recorded guitar player ever.
When I bought their first eponymous album back in like '78 or so, after looking at the album cover something seemed oddly familiar about this band. So I started looking through some of my other records and I was surprised at the number of groups they had recorded with prior to forming Toto!! Like the Pointer Sisters' Energy, and they were also apparently the band for Sonny and Cher's Live in Las Vegas (a double album, double albums were always they coolest).
"I've never heard of this song!"
Evidence of your 44 years off planet.
OMG I enjoy you 2 so much
This is my Karaoke song and I sing it badly. But I give it everything. Haha 😂So glad you guys reacted to this
ToTo was huge in the late 70"s.
Dang - I need a shower after that one!
Toto is Bad Azz!!!! Mega Hits is what they do. Facts!!
Steve Lukather is an Incredible guitarist/vocalist. He needs to grow back that afro, he Rocks it!!!! I Love this era of music!!
Jeff Pocaro is INSANE
Most songs from 1978 probably do hold up pretty well
Entire band are former session musicians and singers.
good song
got to see them last summer live, still great. Sound exactly the same
They're still going?!
@@aaronbarlow4376 oh yes, quick google shows they doing US tour currently. :)
Fun fact:
Steve Lukather was only 19yo when he recorded the guitar solo.
Y’all are just too cute!
This song and this band delivered one of my greatest musical disappointments in life. Imagine: it's 1978 and pop charts and radio play are dominated by disco junk, and one day this song comes screaming out of my radio as I'm on my way to work. Wow! I was so pleased to hear a real rockin' song comin' out of them speakers, and after a couple of more listens I was eager to hear what else this cool, new band would surely be releasing in the near future. Then, nuthin'. A couple of forgettable minor tunes until 1982, when they really started dropping stinkbombs on us, with Roseanna and Africa. I've never been so disappointed about a new band exploding onto the scene with hard-chragin' rock & roll, and then nuthin' but tasteless pablum and soft pop songs to sleep by. Still love this song, still shakin' my head about the rest of it. 🙃
If you haven't heard their song "Rosanna," you should treat yourselves, soon!
Dang!
Love watching your reactions! And I'm sorry I don't know your name, but you always look amazing, love your style. Rocking the red in this one! If you're up to a song with a frenetic pace, try Ballroom Blitz by Sweet. Watch the original video...the outfits!! 70s glam rock at its finest, lol.
If all you'd ever heard by them was Africa or Roseanna, it would be hard to imagine they could've ever been this good.
Boston/More than a Feeling 🤟🤟🤟🤟🎸🇦🇺
If you like that oldie but goodie, try Jane by Jefferson Starship or Lay it on the Line by Triumph.
Classic.
