    Hi everyone! I just wanted to clarify when I said “I feel like speedpaints can be boring” moreso referring to myself, I really enjoy speedpaints if they are fun and quirky, or have great voiceover or music, but for me personally, I feel like I always make my speedpaints a bit boring so I don’t always tend to do them much because I feel like others think that too?? Maybe I’m wrong haha. I have friends who do speedpaints weekly and absolutely love. They are pros at narrating their content and I find them really fun and relaxing :)

    Gouache is traditionally used for artwork that will be photographed or scanned. The matte finish prevents glare. But the colors will fade after a while. And it doesn’t work well with a lot of surfaces. Acrylic gouache basically corrects those limitations, so the colors are longer lasting, can be used on canvases, while still giving great quality when photographed/scanned.

      There’s also a difference between designers gouache and artists gouache, the latter having higher lightfast ratings.

    • @muskndusk
      @muskndusk 5 лет назад +8

      Many paint manufacturers now acknowledge that artists use gouache, not just illustrators, so have started making gouache lightfast. This isn't true of all manufacturers; so buyer beware.

    Acrylic gouache is essentially a very matt acrylic with more pigmentation than standard acrylics. You can add water, a 1:2 ratio is best (1 part water/2 part paint.)

Also, more digital art videos are good too since I have recently entered the world of digital art.

    Great job! I’d love to see a painting that isn’t sped up because I have no idea how you plan out a painting so that all the seemingly meaningless splotches end up making a scene like that. I always either work from a sketch or layer on top of the background (I use watercolors that are a bit gouache-like, so it works best for me that way) but I’d love to learn how to do it the way you did this one.

    I love seeing Chloe do art. She makes a lot of amazing pieces that really inspire me to delve more into art myself. One thing I’ve noticed is that she tends to have a very low opinion of her own work and herself in general. I think that her work is gorgeous. Maybe it doesn’t always turn out the exact way she pictured in her head, but that doesn’t mean the end result isn’t nice either. I like that she’s always trying to improve herself as an artist though- she seems to have a very strong work ethic, but again, I think she already has an immense amount of talent that shows up in her work frequently. I love her paintings especially. I’m more of an ohuhu marker user but recently she has inspired me to try a new medium: acrylic paints. I would have never thought about trying acrylic paints if I hadn’t seen her use and excel at them. Chloe is extremely talented, and I think that if her ultimate goal is to one day work at Disney, I think that one day, with persistence and hard work and an unwillingness to give up, she will achieve this goal. Don’t give up on your dreams Chloe! And also, you are a much better artist than you give yourself credit for!

  • @kees_hoe
    @kees_hoe 5 лет назад +30

    Basically the point of acryla gouache is that it dries so you can’t reactivate it so it layers more easily. since gouache is such and opaque medium its really hard to layer it up without reactivating the bottom layer of it. Example you had a dark blue sky background and wanted white stars, the white paint would probably turn a light blue unless it was a super thick layer that you kep building up. Acryla gouche is just gouche that you can layer without the bottom layers bleeding through the top color

    I like these videos. The unboxing/showing off art supplies can be fun too (especially like seeing the materials, types, brands etc artists use) but I definitely think it should at least be 50/50 actually painting with the supplies at least. It's interesting and cool seeing how talented artists are when they actually make art and interesting also to hear their opinions of the supplies they use which can help other inspiring artists out. Plus the speed paints aren't really boring because not only is the art entertaining to watch, but it's cool to have moments for the artist to just talk about whatever's on their mind and get a glimpse into more of their personality.

    For those wondering: the point of acrylic gouache is to retain the matte look of gouache (regular acrylics have a shiny finish) while avoiding the traditional gouache's ability to reactivate with water after drying. Acrylic gouache dries, and then you can paint on previous layers without reactivating. Also, it's cheaper than high tier gouache and has comparable lightfastness. The "gouache" part in the name is just a branding strategy to appeal to gouache lovers, but in the end is just a matte, soft body/fluid body acrylic paint.

    I think the Tonic paper trimmers are good. Just in case you're interested I recently bought a silicone covered ice cube tray to use with paints. The silicone cover keeps the paints from getting all over.

    I like it when you are talking about anything during a speedpaint, just music is indeed like mega boring! No matter how pretty the art ;). But love listening to you! I wasnt rly sure to buy liquitex acrylic gouache, but now i am convinced it is a product for me! Thanks for the vid, love anything you do rly, even if you are unboxing stuff.. ! Keep it up!

    As much as I like watching speedpaints if an entire painting, I prefer watching a real time painting video to keep me company while I work on my art or watch it for inspiration! I loved this cartoony scenery btw and I'll definitely look into these paints. Kudos! (As for the skillshare class I'm really curious on how you do lights (or everything) with acrylics in scenery because I actually can't)

    Hi! I love watching speedpaints and I like listening to you so do whatever you want ✌🏻 in terms of Skillshare, I’d looove some tips on using acrylics - I’ve amassed quite the collection and I love using them but I don’t feel like I’m getting the best out of them and would love a tutorial!
    Love all your classes so far, can’t wait for a new one!!!

    Nice painting! I love nature scenes best. I use watercolors and am new to using gouache paint. I’ve tried painting with gouache and do find it tricky to get the consistency just right. If I leave it too thick it tends to crack, so i will go back and rewet the gouache and try to lift back some of the paint with a damp brush. I I heard about Liquitex Acrylic Gouache and wondered how good they are. I’m glad you got to review them and enjoyed your video.

    You should look into a stay-wet art pallet. It keeps acrylic/acryla gouache on the pallet moist while painting and even up to a few days if stored correctly. You can get them on amazon for sure, and probably in local art stores if you look a bit.
