The light for UV resin has to be able to penetrate the product from all angles to cure properly-clear molds work best for this reason. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the tip. I recently bought UV resin to try out. I bought clear trinket molds but also bought some jewelry molds made for liquid sculpey. They worked okay for the most part since they’re small/thin, even though the molds are gray.
@@wintersprite Adding to the original comment - and for anyone thinking about using colored UV resin - when you add colorant to your UV resin (or use pre-colored UV resin), the colorants will block some amount of the UV light (lighter colors and less colorant added will block less, darker colors and more colorant added will block more), hindering curing, so keep that in mind! You’ll likely need to cure the colored UV resin in thinner layers and/or from different sides and/or for longer.
I’m glad you pointed this out! Epoxy resin would have been best with this project. Question, though. If you had a clear mold. Could you have epoxy on the bottom and use UV on top? Or are the two not able to work together (especially because UV resin gets so hot)
For the Four Seasons painting...maybe mask off the edges of Sections 1 and 3, paint them, let dry, then re-place the tape to mask off 2 and 4, and paint them? No white line, or having to try and match the gradual lightening later.
Thank you! Since you mentioned it I have to get something off my chest - All those short clips that show the tape off sections and paint 4 at once, they LIE and don’t show that there is a wide paint tape line. so when they do the reveal and the paint goes all the way edge to edge, you know it’s a false second painting and not really the one they started with
It looks like the original artist in the short used 4 different wood canvases and just pushed them together after the backgrounds where painted and dry.
You can't use UV resin deeper than about an eighth inch without a specialized mold, and even then I think half an inch is just about the maximum. The resin absorbs UV, so it can't penetrate the surface layer, kind of like how water absorbs red light, so below a certain depth everything looks blue. You need to buy some epoxy resin for the kind of crafts you want to do.
Thanks! Yeah I do have epoxy, unfortunately I didn’t have the time to wait days between layers as I mentioned I had a flight a couple days after filming so I couldn’t finish it if I used that so I just rolled with the uv resin. Next time I’ll plan accordingly :)
@@ChloeRoseArt you can use epoxy for the base and then uv for upper layers! Also have you heard of the resiners curing machine? It's new and sadly isn't available in the UK yet 😭 but is in USA and Canada on amazon
@@ChloeRoseArt a fast cure epoxy resins might be a good purchase for you. Their are some epoxy resins that cure very quickly you just have to hunt around for them. The temperature of the air also can impact how long it takes for the resin to cure
The pencil hack is what I use for shadows, clouds and light shading (both charcoal and graphite). Cotton balls and tissues work well for clouds (bigger spread), paintbrush is better for controlled diffused soft shadows and light shading because it doesn’t leave stroke marks or lines and it blends super soft. You can also draw dark charcoal blobs on a scrap paper and use a paintbrush to get the dust from that without shaving it and getting dust on your main artwork (more controlled). Paintbrush is really good for photo realistic charcoal drawing blending if you don’t like the look of stroke marks and grain too 🙂 If using the shaving technique you’re better using very soft lead, like a 6b - 9b graphite, or a 4b - 6b charcoal. Compressed Sticks (graphite or charcoal) are also easier and don’t break as easy.
Great episode Chole! I'm so glad that you try art hacks too. I don't mean this in a mean way, but its so nice to see you make mistakes as well. (the 4 season tree). I feel like everyone is a perfectionist on these art hack videos and I'm the only messing up. It's very encouraging seeing you correct as you go and that its ok if you don't love the piece at the end. ( I feel like that's me on many projects hahah) It's all about trying and having fun with the process. By the way bought your paint brushes! I love them!! They blend paint so well and keep there shape after use. I will be buying more in the future. Thanks for always being you and sharing your creativeness with us. You truly inspire me.
One of the things with the art hacks that makes them appear so "flawless" and "perfect," is that they cut out certain steps that actually help explain what the hell that person just did! So annoying, but I also get that it's meant to be a "short," so... still makes them feel almost clickbait-y at times. I agree it's good to see others make mistakes, as it's a great help to the rest of us mortals that suck at this. Lol! It shows that everyone makes mistakes. The key is learning how to fix them, cover them up, or work with them.
Hi Chloe!! I was thinking for the little resin fish pond, you could try mixing a 2 part epoxy resin together with the sand for the first layer. That would eliminate the bubbles (a few are okay, of course) and the sand would still be visible through the layers and would look even more realistic! You could then use UV resin over that for the rest of the layers so it’s still less time consuming. These were so fun to watch! Love your channel!
I really enjoy that you don’t obsess over making it perfect. Makes it much more likely that I’ll just jump in and try one of these. Your approach takes the intimidation factor out of it.
The bumblebee is cute! That particular project reminds me of when we did fingerprint art in grade school.... Plop a finger or thumb print down and use a pen to make it into something else.
That little plastic sheet thingie you found in your canvas was a desiccant sheet, similar to the silica gel packets. Unfortunately know from working at the nightmare craft store that starts with M
That was cool, thanks for sharing. I liked the goldfish in the pot best. That is a project I want to do at some point. When I can get my hands on some resin.
Epoxy resin is better for large projects and molds that don't clear. It is much more time consuming, though, because it take hours for each layer to cure.
riusuke fukahori i believe was the first person to do that goldfish resin style painting, his is in a fairly large, shallow basin and it's one of the most incredible pieces of work ive ever seen. it's called goldfish salvation!
Ok, here's a hack for the future... if you want to seperate something in even parts.... start with the middle XD It's easier to half something and then half the halfs, then trying to guess a quarter :3
For resin paintings it’s probably best to use fast cure epoxy resin. I believe you could paint on that after like 15 minutes… Not entirely sure, but definitely worth looking into! And if you want to use uv resin, you will need a clear or translucent container (as long as the light can come in from every side). Good luck for the next time you want to try it 🤗
When using uv resin ovoid using something that is not clear because then The light cannot get around to all the sides to clear it. If you use a clear mold then it would cure quickly and with out problem. They also make resin that dries after sitting out for a few hours so if you can’t use a clear mold use that.😊
Also just watched Loki for the second time. Waiting for season 2. Love seeing Jazza's pencils in the background. I've been working with 2-part epoxy resin and UV resin since the beginning of Covid, and even though it takes longer, I really prefer the 2-part epoxy. The shavings bear was really cute.
I’d definitely try the first one, but my seasons would be in a different order because I live in the Southern Hemisphere. I’d probably start with Autumn (which is March-May in Aus)
I love the seasons painting!! 🌳 Brilliant!! 🍁 The smudging might work on a doodle prompt page. 🤔 It's rough to make friends with resin, but cute idea. Too bad it doesn't work from the side in a fish bowl. 🐟 Sculpey fish in resin for that? Beta fish?
