  • With forests burning, rivers vanishing and continents carved up by toxic oceans, a world where global temperatures have risen by six degrees would be a bleak one - and almost no environment could sustain human life.

      A slight chance but it's there.
      Whoever doesn't quite understand the implications gotta watch national geographic "evacuating earth" episode 4 which describes the spiral effect and show some great visuals of what will actually happen.
      I saw it years ago and saw it now again. It should wake up some people. And as for what we can and should do is mostly choosing our politicians based on their actions against climate change, otherwise we're probably doomed. There's a great vid about that in Kurzgesagt's channel. If we didn't emit any CO2 ourselves our entire life we would halt one lonely second in the heating effect..

These will be the last to go. But on the upside: small numbers of billionaires would have broken quarantine and made the journey to Mars, and would already be well on track to destroying the Red planet. This video is NOT for the faint of heart. This is a video for someone that has already come to terms with climate change and wants to understand what is at risk.
    The only 'problem' with this video is it reports methane being 20X more potent than CO2. That is correct when considering methane (CH4) warming over 100 years. The thing is, CH4 is 100x more potent than CO2 in a 2 year period. A large release (look up Siberian Times and search methane) of CH4 has substantial and immediate impacts.

    • @egonzalez4294
      @egonzalez4294 11 месяцев назад +1

      None of those technologies work in the long term nor are sustainable, to recapture all the CO2 emmitted we would need to undo the whole process as carbon laying around would simply decompose back into CO2 eventually, so we must put it back into the ground in a form of goo or oil, aka reversing what we did; which is a harder process than extracting.
      That's the bleak thing about climate change, it's unstoppable; carbon capture is a lie from big oil.

    we really need to reassess where we are going as a species. The problem is, these issues are global but we don't have a global government to meet them so anything we do is usually disjointed and of a small scale. The future is bleak unless we can get a handle on this over the next few years

    • @jean-pierredevent970

      The flooding events and the extreme heat waves all over the world now baffle even the experts. Methane is being released as we speak (explosion craters in Siberia) but a real catastrophic release is considered very unlikely, again by the experts. Ironically the 'my freedom above all' lovers would have to accept that only a technocratic authoritarian socialist world government could handle such global disaster where people would have to move from country to country without any freedom of choice.

      Nev Sagiba and many more rivers will dry up. It’s called water evaporation. The sun’s heat heats up H2O in liquid form, changes it to a gaseous state ... into water vapour. And away it flies into the sky ... somehow joins others and fall down as rain at a precipitation point. It’s apparently just part of life. But climate scientists have yet to confirm whether this is a theory or fact. By 2049 they will have an answer. 12 months before the sky totally falls on us all

    • @OldScientist
      @OldScientist Год назад

      Extinction rates (1500-2009) peaked around 1900 at 50 per decade. Extinction rates have declined dramatically to around 4 to per decade in the 2000s. So extinction the rate is very low: 900 known lost species for 2.1 million known species in 500 years (IUCN), so from observations there are an average of slightly less than 2 species lost every year. Out of a known species total of over 2 million. That gives an annual percentage loss of less than 0.0001%. That's background extinction. At that frequency it will take over 930,000 years to reach 80% extinction of species experienced at the K-T boundary that saw the extinction of the dinosaurs. Of course, extinction is a natural part of the evolution of life on this planet with the average lifespan of a species thought to be about 1 million years (cf 930,000). It is estimated that 99.9% of all plant and animal species that have existed have gone extinct. It should also be noted that no families or genera have become extinct in the last 500 years. In fact marine diversity at the taxonomic level of families is the highest it has ever been in the Earth's long history (see Sepkoski Curve).

We could end this socalled crises tomorrow if we just wanted to, with solar reflection. The world is trying its best to keep our climate stable.
    Polar vortex - That's the band of cool artic/antartic air that should be circulating the both poles.
    Now it is migrating from the poles and cooling latitudes that should be warmer in the winter.
    Hence the record snow and ice in north east America.
    Melting ice caps - Cooler ocean currents are migrating away from the poles and keeping the thermahaline currents flowing.
    ie the Gulf stream. The differing temperatures in the ocean between opposing latitudes.
    Stagnation of these currents will lead to a rise in sea life death and destruction.
    Tree growth - With the rise of CO2 in the atmosphere the earth would protect itself by growing millions of extra trees.
    However, mankind is destroying these forests and once again releasing vast quantities of CO2.
    Australia just recorded its hottest temperatures since records began.
    North East America is suffering under record snowfall.
    Mankind really has to allow the earth to heal itself.
    It will in the Future.
    By that time the earth's cancer may well be extinct.
