The average person really has no clue and only sees a threat when it directly impacts them. Everything in nature is intertwined, and we need to stop being so selfish and protect our planet.

"The UK has reduced carbon emissions levels to pre-Industrial Revolution levels" Sorry, what now?!
I remember seeing a news story about it, it's not wrong, but kinda misleading. There was an off day that had many businesses closed for the day with people not really going anywhere, on a day that they just so happened to be able to power themselves 100% on renewables for a short time. It happened, but it was very short lived.
No, it's wrong. Pre-industrial was a time there were no cars, no electricity, no trains, planes, air conditioners, toasters, etc.
@@jaypuck6912 however coal was also very commonly burned for heating and cooling purposrs
Yup, and there weren't even a billion people on the planet back then and they didn't need to heat their homes every minute of every day of the year. How are you suggesting people burned coal for cooling purposes? Energy might be "greener" now but how did we get that wind power? The metals were mined using OIL. They were forged using OIL. They were manufactured using OIL. They were transported using OIL. They were installed using OIL. The transmission lines... same story. The roads... same story. You might have an electric car, but it's existence is only possible because of oil. Most of the stuff in your house is an oil by-product. Your food, clothes, refrigerator, computer, etc.
@@jaypuck6912 It's not like the people analyzing the situation haven't thought of this stuff...I think you need to learn to respect the intelligence of the human race at large. We made computers, dude. People freakin' know about the whole manufacturing chain, and are including that in calculations.
We are all talking about what is going to happen and what we will all have to face in the future... Individuals are trying to do stuff, like zero-waste, veganism, no plastic, minimalism... But that has a very little effect, something (a lot actually) should be done globally. We all know that, but the truth is that it is just not profitable for the people in power to become extremely eco-friendly. And that is it.
also the most important kind of regulations, as in those that affect the giant american corporations that account for hugely disproportionate contributions to carbon emissions, are the hardest to pass when those very corporations effectively control their only regulators through lobbying, threats of funding political opponents, and expensive legal teams experienced in delaying any progress
We need to put a price on Co2, that is what the left in Australia, 10 years ago, was trying to do. It should have been done 20 years ago and it would have been easier now. The longer we leave it the more abrupt and destructive it will be. When the right got back in they undid everything and took us back to square one.
One of the first things we will notice is more wars, rearmament. More wars bring more refugees which in turn bring further unrest where the refugees go or as in the case of Australia, are stored. It will start in the poorer countries, such as the middle east, and spread to the others. The danger here is people will be kept busy fighting those wars and creating more Co2 to do anything about the problem of global warming. Imagine the population of the world trying to get into America. Capitalism has caused this with their protection of the bottom line, so that will have to be an early casualty. The alternative is the end of the human race.
We need to kick out the trumps of this world, they are a waste of time and space, and get an armlock on big business.
Trust someone with the username Abolish ICE Now to think America is a disproportionate polluter. China and third world countries make the US look like an eco-state.
Eric, We tried that here in Australia with our carbon tax, remember? It was an absolute failure. Everyone just moved their factories to China and saved a buttload of money. It's a great way to kill your economy though just to make the few eco-freaks out there feel better with a grossly negligent virtue signal.

4° warmer doesn't sound too bad... 60° becomes 64°, right? No problem!
*Wrong.*
She briefly mentioned in the video that the 4° is global average annual temperature.
That means the cold winter that you're used to gets somewhat colder than before,
but the hot summer season lasts longer, and the hot days your grandparents experienced now have become much hotter and longer.
and it's CELSIUS
@@GabrielCarvv 1. It's celcius
2. "Global average" means, air temperature over the oceans will increase less and most of the warming takes place over the continents where people live.
4°C of global warming would translate to around +10°C in the US mainland. That's +18°F.
Winters will be warmer too, summers will be much warmer, what we today call a megadrought will be normal weather. The US will experience severe desertification, especially in the Midwest where most of the agriculture is produced.
It will likely not be able to support a population in the hundreds of millions like today.
The problem is, this kind of apocalypse will be going down everywhere, and at the same time.
The Sahara desert will cross the Mediteranean and engulf Spain, Italy, southern France; England is going to have a California type of climate, etc. (Basically, the climate zones all move polewards by a few thousand miles.)
And by the way this is set to go down in our lifetimes, not "future generations". Good luck. :)

This should be treated like the emergency it is. Governments are far too timid in dealing with climate change. Back during WW2 we didn't just use taxes and subsidies. Governments would mandate factories switch production to wartime production. Civilian tires were rationed to save tires for military purposes. People would be conscripted to fight in the war.
Why can't we take the same approach to stopping climate change? Not enough construction workers to build solar plants? Conscript them. Given that all the labor involved in transitioning to clean energy is relatively safe it's even milder than military conscription, it's more comparable to jury duty.
And not enough of a needed resource, make more factories produce them. We could build up the clean energy infrastructure much faster than just prodding the markets. I'm not saying we should abandon capitalism, I'm saying that the potential dangers of climate change make this an exceptional situation and governments should respond accordingly. Once the clean energy infrastructure is fully in place we could go back to a free market in energy.
Nothing is more important than the survival of our species and that is what is at stake. Planned economics is generally inefficient. But we should risk some short-term economic inefficiency to guarantee our survival.
nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/07/climate-change-earth-too-hot-for-humans.html
Yeah, circumvent science and democracy and get autocratic, right?
Science shows us this is an emergency situation.
As for circumventing democracy, if people would just wake up we could build a consensus and voters would demand a government that treats climate change as the emergency it is. No need to circumvent democracy and no need for autocracy.
People are in denial that humans as a species are likely doomed. 99.99% of species that have existed are extinct. Sure, we should try to save the planet, but I'm not convinced we will.

Skety
This some sarcasm video right? She don't seem like she's taking the video host role seriously...
Really?
Well, at least one Republican watched the video.
Dudes like you are a bit annoying..
Skety you're annoying.
Wait until the 4C world hits you if you really want to see annoying.
Oh, it's Hollyhock! 😄 Great voice 👍
arabica isn't the only kind of coffee bean... in fact, dandelion root makes a pretty good substitute
I guess I'll find out in the morning. Forecast says it's supposed to be 30 degrees warmer by noon.
the fact that they make the point about the genome of a coffee plant being release to "the public domain" is very telling... and I had so much hope for "the human race"...
While this is all very interesting and brought in a very funny way... You did just spill 3 cups of Arabica magic...
It will be like working inside a tannery in Rajasthan in June. Like 55 degrees C.
In europe we already experienced massive destruction due to rain this year. It never happened before. Everytime it rains it causes massive damages. We are sadly already there.
Four degrees Celsius is 7.2 degrees. We're talking about a global temperature rise of about 7 degrees.
No Way or...I don't know hear me out... global rise on average of 4° Celsius... like 99% of the countries on Earth & used in scientific community. Stop being ignorant.
4c is 32 degrees...?
Plague more like 40 degrees Fahrenheit

I agree with you. However, I think that the video was targeting Americans and since saying "the temperature is rising 2-7 degrees(c)" that means very little to an Americans. If people started saying the temperature will rise ~4-12 degrees (F) when targeting Americans, people will react differently to the information.
Luna Faun I wish we were on metric & celcius, it's a lot simpler.
"I am impressed with your positive attitude" -OK I'm out
I love this idea. To show people really how their everyday lives would change.
this is a great video, A+++++
The description calls the host a comedian... It was so funny that I had to turn it off and will probably never watch again
