I named my English Springer Spaniel Winston Churchill, in honor of Sir Winston Churchill. I've admired him since I was a little boy & having learned how to read, started reading the history of WW2. My dad was a veteran, but his experiences there made it impossible for him to talk about it. Today they call it PTSD. He took his stories to his grave when i was 13.
And look what we have now for leadership! How the mighty has fallen.
Yes. And all that we Britons treasure, glory in and take pride in is dissolving before our eyes.
Was feeling so despondent with the state of the things, listened to this incredible documentary and now feel on top of the world! Churchill's speeches and actions reach across time and space to uplift people no matter what the situation! I adore Sir Winston, imperfect, brave, unusual, loyal and motivated by love of country! ❤🇬🇧⚘️ Thank you for this BRILLIANT documentary 👏🏽

Winston Churchill was the greatest man that has ever lived. I’m shocked at King George 6th , He obviously was not very bright. In 1946 my mother taught me several of the great speeches. She also taught me to be very kind to Jews at school. This was the best film I’ve watched on the history of Churchill. I am 80. Thank you.
George VI was plenty bright and an extraordinary man of great courage. Just because he didn't care for Churchill at first (with good reason -- Churchill had sided with his wayward brother, the Duke of Windsor), he came to change his mind. Haven't you even seen "The King's Speech"?
George VI has claim to be one of this country's greatest kings. A very brave and dutiful man. As exaudi33 says, the fact he was initially cautious of Churchill meant he shared the view of most of the country. Churchill had been wrong so many times in the 20s and 30s and had changed parties twice. But over the disgusting Nazis Churchill was right and his leadership saved the world.

There will always be a special bond between the British people and the American people.
I was 9yrs old when churchill was buried,even then i knew a great man had passed away.
We're the same age and likely related. My paternal grandmother was a Wright.

I was about 16 I think. I read his book on WW2 and thought he was a great writer as well as a great man to say the least.

I'm Danish and absolutely the biggest fan of Churchill, that said I'm extremely humble and have no words to tell my gratitude, towards all the young lads and girls, who sacrificed there life to the freedom we have today. As far as I am concerned, Winston Spencer Churchill was one of the greatest leaders this Planet has ever had, throughout history, perhaps even The Greatest. I was extremely fortunate to visit not only Blenheim Palace, but
also Chartwell, and above all, the final resting place of The Last Lion and his dear wife, Bladon. I was in awe of
this man to whom I owed my freedom; I knelt beside their grave and thanked him. I then walked away backwards,
facing their resting place. I was about to leave, but on an impulse walked back to the site, knelt down and kissed
the grave with reverence. I shall always remember my October 2019 visit, to the U.K. Roland Singh, Canada 🇨🇦

My Irish parents lived through the Blitz in London. My dad ended up landing in Italy at a place called Salerno and fighting into Austria with the British Army. Many have criticized Winston Churchill, especially Indian historians, but there's no doubt in my mind that he stood tall when the world needed it the most. Nobody can take that away from him.

@paddy1952 Totally agree with you. If Churchill had not been there, Great Britain would have probably fallen. If it is occupied by the Germans, there is no D-Day, no bombing of Germany by the RAF and the Americans. Germany could have won the war by fighting only on one front against the Red Army. We owe very much to Churchill.

My uncle at the age of 22 was killed on the Salerno landings. His wife, my aunt collapsed when she was handed a telegram, with just the words ‘your husband has been killed in action. She never recovered and was paralysed for life having lost most of her physical movement and speech.
Great men and women who have lived and died without a thought for themselves,the epitome of the unsung heroes.We owe them all a debt that can never be paid in full .

If you like this, read Churchill's 6 books on WWII. They're in your public library.
By the way, those books were written before "ultra" was declassified. There is no mention of breaking the German codes in the books.

True. A lot of these pilots were from czechoslovakia. After the war many of them were imprisoned and executed by communist back home.
I am not one of those people that believes that everything about the ' olden days ' but looking at this excellent documentary I have to conclude we have lost so much as a people . Even the iconic ' thumbs up ' is apparently an aggressive emoji now ! ✌️🇬🇧

This documentary is outstanding. Never took a deep interest in Churchill until recent passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Her unlikely friendship with Churchill has ignited my curiosity to look closely into this great leader’s life stories in which I wish I could have done so earlier. Now, I cannot get enough of his courageous and profound speeches and quotes.
A tremendous documentary. I am so grateful to my parent's generation for banding together, with the grace of God, to fight and conquer.
Can't compare the sheer grit of this giant to the timidity of present day BBC anchors who keep asking whether we should continue observing WW2 remembrances.

Unquestionably the greatest Englishman of our time and a defiant leader who never gave up whilst frequently facing the impossible and against all the odds. To millions he will always remain a lifelong pillar of extraordinary courage and defiance against a repulsive Nazi tyranny threatening ordinary freedoms and civilised life. Another Winston is now urgently required to stand up to today's repulsive behaviour form other countries that threaten our very existence.

I always had a negative view on Winston, mainly for the role he was involved in during the fiasco of the Dardenals in WW1.
I have since changed this view after watching many films on the man.
We all have to learn lessons in life and I feel that the Gallipoli debarcle was one of Winston's big lessons.
If it wasn't for mistakes like that I doubt Winston would have been the man he became and in doing so gained my appreciation at his willingness to stick it to the axis as often as he did.

@@rajeshramachandran1812 An estimated 800,000 to 3.8 million Bengalis perished in a Famine when their crops failed due to natural causes, high cyclones and floods. Churchill was concerned about the humanitarian catastrophe taking place there, and he pushed for whatever famine relief efforts India itself could provide. Australian grain was sent but sadly not enough. Hardly "he slaughtered".

What a wonderful documentary, probably the best I've ever seen and I've seen many on Sir Winston. I grew up in the aftermath of this war and my heart swells with pride as I see the brave faces of all our courageous fighting men and women.

My father was one of thousands who went over to Europe. He never told us children what he did . All I know is he got to met Mr. Churchhill. I cried in some parts of this. This was beautifully put together thank you for sharing.

An absolutely superb video. As an Englishman (60 years old), I have to firstly say thank you to the USA and to the great man that FDR was, to those brave US Marines but also to the blue-collar workers that built those ships, planes, tanks, munitions, and everything the lend/lease deal supplied. My mother and father who were teenagers during the war always had the greatest respect for the US and of course, Sir Winston Churchill whom my mother always referred to as Mr. Churchill. Without the help of the USA in those early years, I probably would not be here today.
This is a documentary of the highest quality. A big shout out to Lee Holdridge for his beautiful music- and to the mixer who had the good taste to make sure that it never overpowered the narration. As someone whose parents were involved in the war, my Dad was a Lancaster bomber pilot and my Mom was in the women's auxiliary air force, this doccie was fascinating. Churchill was a hero- certainly a flawed hero, as all heroes, being human are. To those ungrateful miscreants who, because Churchill failed to reach their standard of perfection, want to deface and pull down his statue, just consider that without Churchill the statues would be of Hitler. If you tried to deface those, the Gestapo would machine gun you, and those that survived would be tortured and then either hanged on meat hooks or guillotined.

To say if not because of him there would be statues of Hitler is just a bit hyperbolic, yes. Thanks for admitting he was flawed, a lot of people in the comments seem to forget the pain he has caused the world since The War. He also gleefully used the military to stop protests in his own country. Then again, protests aren't protected speech there.
Saying all heroes are flawed is a very comic book view of the world. I imagine David Attenborough would be hard to find any little dirt on plus it is obvious he doesn't have a racist bone in his body, unlike Churchill.
Is Churchill completely unredeemable with his flaws though, that is the question. I would imagine if you were Indian after The War I would imagine he isn't thought of as highly. He also didn't want Britain to have to social welfare programmes they instituted after The War and still enjoy to this day! Which I must say was a heroic thing to do. While Britain was battered and broke from spending their wealth on war and while still rationing basic food and supplies they accomplished such a difficult task. In complete contrast to America, the country that had more food, more money and was not even really damaged had no desire to aid its populace and actually implemented laws to keep selected groups from accessing the benefits of the new culture and returned the oppressed peoples that served back to their oppressed state.
Then again, to call people you simply don't agree with "ungrateful miscreants" (probably want to use more undesirable terms) shows that you do not even wish to understand and place a thing over actual people. Statues are inanimate objects but when people worship a statue so much they hate the people that don't worship the lump of metal are worse than the miscreants they hate. It also doesn't matter one iota what your parents did, it isn't you. Seems like they were good people, would they like it that you hate people because they don't like the lump of metal you worship? I also know what your generation was like when people started coming in from the colonies, they weren't welcomed as they thought they might, going to the centre of their Empire.
One last thing, were the Nazis known for using the guillotine? I never heard that. It would be quicker than being strung up until you suffocated or choking for several minutes on cyanide gas.

Listening to the radio addresses of this great man always stir something deep inside me. A pride that is buried deep inside my very DNA. The people from that rather small island have done more for the world than any other nation in history. All of the world’s democracies owe their existence to them. Think about the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, all of Europe, India and more. This man, Sir Winston, wasn’t just a giant among men he was the biggest giant among other giants.

What a timely video to put up here. A man for the moment was Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. A man who honoured his calling, education and privilege with selfless service, sacrifice and the bearing of great burdens. Is it too much to think of him as ordained by God for this service? The Ukraine too faces similar or worse ravages than did Britain in WW2. God save us from another world war.

If it wasn't for Winston Churchill the whole of Europe would be speaking German and we should never forget that man was a saviour for the whole of Europe
Churchill rallied the British people to fight rather than surrender. And so they did. A great leader. He was an Empire man. FDR reminded Churchill we were not fighting to preserve the Empire.
If it wasn't for the help he got from the USA you Brits would speak German fluently the same language as your inbred European aks German monarchy

Wonderful Documentary. I've seen just about every film on the Second World War and specifically on the British experience in the spring and summer of 1940 and this ranks as the best. It tells a great story of how Churchill influenced events during a dark time for his Country and the free world as a whole.

God bless him! A man of many faults which we all have. He rallied a nation and was a hero to his country! Such a complex and brilliant man. He met his destiny and succeeded, with the help of his cousins.

Wonderful documentary. Interestingly, Churchill and Roosevelt had their first face to face meeting not off the coast of Canada, but rather off the coast of Newfoundland. Newfoundland was part of Britain until 1949, when it became a Canadian province.
Thank you for this film. I didn't realize how Churchill was such a great leader as he was. I thank God for raising up such a great leader at this time in history. We sure need a leader like him today.
Really fine show. I thought I knew most everything there was to know about Churchill, but I didn't know of his support for a Jewish homeland.

Truly excellent documentary on one of History's Great Men...'Cometh the Hour... Cometh the Man'. I was still at Harrow when Churchill an Old Harrovian visited us for School Songs... later in 1965 I was a member of The Honourable Artillery Company's marching contingent in The Great Man's Funeral.

I am not interested in the man's personal opinions, only in his dedication to winning the war, and freedom of oppression from the Nazis. And because of his dedication ,I am here to write this.
Does it seem strange to anyone else how at one point in time there were probably the greatest two leaders of any two Nations. And they both were on the same path and that path led to greatness. Even both of them being in the later stages of their life Roosevelt much later in his life but Churchill wasn't exactly young at that point either

In college I was lucky to have a first rate composition teacher. We spent hours looking/ reading sentences, paragraphs looking for the perfectly written. Finally I found one, in a book by siir winston Churchill " the History of the English Speaking People....Read it!

Churchill was a man of his time, warts and all. But he was also the savior not only of his nation, but of western civilization. We owe him everything.
Many do not seem to realize it but Western Civilization is again threatened by Fascism and Extremism by forces both domestic and foreign.

Yes , tears at this brilliant documentary. Born in Cardiff, I can remember at 4 years old sitting in our shelter at home, and carrying a gas mask to infant school. I now live in Israel .My husband knew Ben Gurion and I met Giolda Meir ,both prime ministers of Israel Meier. They both were leaders who admired the one and only Churchill.
My mum took me to Chartwell in 1971.Chartwell is in Westerham Kent also home of Caterham Cars.I
saw Winston's art work,his personal items including one of his cigars.I and blown away.He was one if not the best Englishman ever.
Patriotism and heroism at the finest when these Brits were called upon to literally risk their own lives to help save their fellow soldiers!
I always loved his "What kind of people do they think we are?" speech. I could practically recite it from memory and "teach them a lesson they and the world shall never forget." I have used his words to perfectly describe Russia, "A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma." Did I remember that in the right order? I was 10 years old when Sir Winston spoke at that US college in Missouri I think it was. That was where he coined the term, "Iron Curtain." He did such a remarkable job during WWII that when he seemed to fall out of favor with the British I was thoroughly confused. He most certainly had a thorough knowledge of the English language. He phrased his words so beautifully. Definitely one of my favorite world leaders of all time.

When leaders had honor and character. When they knew how to UNITE and galvanize a nation during tragedy. The King and Queen showed there character and strength also, again leading a nation by example, not running away. Leaders have faults... given. The way they behave during crisis is critical to their leadership. That's where we are being failed by our government today. There is no more pride or dedication to improving the lives of those you represent, instead just bettering their own. Look and learn, leaders of tomorrow.
I'D amend is that to say there are some who have no pride or dedication to the service of others, even if they are not citizens of our country, ( lack a world view). I think of the Cadre of enablers in our country,
God himself was indeed watching over him.
Without him the world would likely be a different place, thankfully we'll never know. This documentary barely scratches the surface of what Churchill did for the world.
