If you want to be completely prototypical, the turret should be pointing to the rear of the tank for transport (train, air, or truck). It doesn't look as cool, but that's I have always seen and it allows you maximize space as cargo. Thanks for sharing!
Just an observation on your last train with the tanks, the turret is normally rail loaded facing the back deck center. Looks great looking at getting a set of tanks myself.
Great video as usual. Not to be a stickler for details but as a former Abrams tank crewman I thought you should know you have the turrets pointed in the wrong direction. When you rail transport an Abrams the turret is pointed backwards and the gun barrel is locked into horizontal position. You'd also never have the machine guns on the roof due to theft concerns.
Great video...nice to see the trestle in the back round...all the work pays off looking forward to next session maybe some yard switching and train makeup.
Sometimes it's just FUN to run trains! I enjoyed watching this video. I saw some cars that I didn't know you had. Plus, I saw some cars that I have too. Fun to watch.... Thanks!
Awsom job on weathering the brand new long tresel Eric' flaking old green paint look! Its nice to just see a pure run video. You deserve a long break and enjoy all your hard work' i'm sure at times when you do great ideas come to mind when you don't think to fast and hard. Very much fun to watch' no tutorial nesessary its all self explanitory! GREAT JOB!!
Wow! I love how eclectic you were! Those were very spectacular locomotives, and you had very prototypical lashups. I enjoy the Pennsy style portals, it definantly adds a lot of character to your layout. A couple Pennsy dublexi emegrging from those tunnels would look great!
Awesome. Nothing beats the swinging bell..... Nice shot of the pine tree in the foreground of your On30 runby. Love the whistle on the Blue Goose and the Black Diamond.
I like making things look somewhat prototypical, but then again I'm using 3-rail track so there's also just a "fun" element there. I seriously considered running a lash-up consisting of one of my european steam engines, an american modern diesel engine and then an american steam engine taking up the rear....just to mess with people.
Hello Eric: I'm new to the model railroad hobby and I would like to ask. When you have more than one locomotive pulling a train, do all of the locomotives pull the train and the main locomotive has the sounds? Or does the main locomotive do all the pulling?
13 Endercreeper it depends. Usually with diesels, there could be a non-powered unit as well as a powered unit, or even just both powered, as a lash-up. There aren’t any non-powered Steam locomotives that I’m aware of, so you’d usually just do a lash-up as well. Hope this helped!
i love trains i found a old HO set in good will most of it was there missing a few wheels so i could only run 3 cars at time, anyhow i set it up on the living room floor and watch it go around for hours :) the cat love it but my kids two boys 15 and 12 thought i was out my mind, they play with it a for 5 mins and that was that lol . times where so difrint when i was kid in 70`s :) i feel old
Love the Reading Diamond and the double-headed and reversed Mallets. Great video with tons of rolling stock. Do you have the matching passenger set for the Reading?
I posted a comment or more should I say a question I’m wondering where you buy your people to put on your relay out most of the people I see are just passenger people and I want more people that are working around the railroad where do I buy such items
Eric great video as always! I sent you message a while back asking if you would be willing to be part of my youtube series that I'm doing where I feature clips of my favorite train layouts. I'm hoping you'll be willing to participate. I've been a big fan since your early days on youtube, Hoping to hear from you. Rrk1937
PS; I noticed that on one of your engine reviews, the noise was in the front, the smoke acted in sink with the engine speed and activity. I do not need a 24" long train, if some were a little smaller. I don't think the 700E is quite that big. I typical like the steam engine, My father took us every weekend to watch them in Washington DC, before that were taken out of service. I also thought that it might be cool to get trains that ran in DC/ Balt. and NY and maybe do a layout based on a real DC one. We had GG1's. Many yards with cranes etc. remember the military was here during the war. My Father was in the Coast Guard and Capt. of a sub chaser. We had a set up in the basement circa 1950's. I also met Raymond Loewy when my father built Lord and Taylor in Chevy Chase. He designed their stores......I am a metal worker and can build things to scale , like the trestle bridges you show in your sets. I don;t know how much they cost, but I can make then in metal, to scale. What is the scale for these sets, I meant to ask you that.
that orange southern pacific engine was called "The Daylight Express". AND its original number is 4449 not4415! look it up on google or youtube it by "tough guys.
Correction, #4449 is only one of about 60 or 70 engines in the GS class family. 4415 is an accurate road number for the GS2 class engines rostered by the Southern Pacific
Interestingly, while there is no proof of it happening that I know of, N&W DID run a Y6 2-8-8-2 as a helper on a coal train tender first against the caboose. There IS video evidence of that. Odd sight it was.
Eric, the turrets on the M1's are in the wrong direction. Turrets are always in 6 o'clock position during rail and truck transport, as the barrel can be secured and the turret locked. The chains go over cross in the tie downs in the front and back of the hull, not over the tank before and aft of the turret like a piece of poorly secured cargo.
That's useful information, not something I would of though about before. I went and started looking up videos of trains with tanks on them XD. It's little details like that I like to look for when it comes to model railroading.
I love all your tutorials and I have one question regarding this video. in the timeframe of 19:40ish to 20:00 you have several flat cars with M1 Tanks. are they special made or are they available commercially, and by who. thanks
Questions..why is the third rail painted and some of the rails aren't? Is that a Lionel thing or your'e not finished weathering the rails? Nice layout by the way...Are all the heritage schemes available for Lionel?
Beautiful trains a settings, but you have no idea on how to make a movie! The first 5 minutes are monotonous bordering on offensive due to the sound track
Awsome with the tanks. You got anymore army loads like that or other vehicles nice vid did like the army switcher but I have never seen the camo UP machine before
Hey Eric, I was wondering if you have any advice for me as I am getting into the hobby while still in college and do you think it would be a good idea to start setting up a layout in an apartment?
If you're in college and in an apartment, it's probably best to set up some sort of modular layout or a layout that can easily be moved. If you subscribe to some of the magazines in the hobby, they usually have articles about building small/portable layouts on a regular basis. I'd start there.
Thanks for sharing Eric! Can watch running trains for hours. How many hours (days) invested for 20 minute finished product? Never seen steam engines doubleheaded tail to tail. I'm not calling you on it, cause when you're King you make the rules. But is there a prototypical example? THANKS again ...
In 13:20, it says it's a 2662, however it's a 2882, it was probably a tipo or just a mistake, Eric Seagal is a super train expert!

I forgot to ask, did the deer jumping across the Shay make it? lol Love it.
No, there's no prototypical example that I'm aware of. I was just having some fun. It took about a week to make the video.
Wow, I feel like I'm trackside. I like your regular vids, but every now and then one of good solid running is nice to see!
I agree to bad it doesn’t happen often
A 2 minute and 25 second consist. Love it.
You have some of the best model trains I have seen on RUclips
Just an observation on your last train with the tanks, the turret is normally rail loaded facing the back deck center. Looks great looking at getting a set of tanks myself.
the katy texas special sd70a, the santa fe blue goose, the lionel vision line 700e and the up dd35a have beautiful sounding whistles and horns.
Why the dislikes? This is one of your best videos! A lot of action and variety, one of my favorite parts was probably the back-to-back Mallets.
GREAT VIDEO Eric , cool man cool!!! Cool sounds too aaaaaaaaaaa!😜😛😁💚💙👍👍👍👍
16:11 Just imagine seeing that consist rolling down the track... LOL.

ericstrains you have really cool trains! Make sure to check out my train videos please
Great vid Eric i really enjoyed watching this. do you have a camera that goes inside an engine yet? that would make for some cool video
A few years.
Wonderful video as usual Eric! You are very talented and I appreciate all you do and have done for our hobby. Looking forward to part 2.

" Well Eric, your camera skill`s and this Vid are TOP-NOTCH ! "
Great video Eric! Nice smoke action the all of the locomotives. You have a fine assortment of rolling stock too. Way to go!!
I love the way you shoot your videos it makes the layout look like it’s a real ray road
Sweet stuff! i see some weathering on some of the cars. Now, where's the "grafitti? :)
Very cool, I really like how realistic it looks and sounds.
The all American RR, great video! Hard work really pays off, very impressive.
Thats what I like about you Eric, your not afraid to have fun with your trains. :D
There are 2 clips of gensets in this video...
Awesome running video Eric! Looking forward to part 2.

13:20 *In John Cena voice* Are you sure about that?
Absolutely beautiful footage. The scenery is really impressive and the locomotives of every kind are awesome. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
The subway car is an MOW car now.
I love the scene where you have your two C&O mallets back to back.
Good to know, thanks.
At 7:57 is the texas special an mth
16:56- awesome snowplow and genset switcher!
Lionel sound is vastly better than anything out there today. My opinion.
I agree.
Hi
Yes, I use a camera. :)

I wish that towercom the Santa Fe Blue Goose said "Now arriving from Chicago on Track #1, Train #23 The Blue Goose."

Very nice, what flat cars are you using with the M1 Tanks and who makes the tanks?
Someday u need to do a video with all ur engines in it not running but just to show how many u really do have that would be a kool video
You have MTH subway cars?? Never knew, looks funny being pulled right behind two C&O articulated coupled tender to tender. Nice models though!
I have a magazine that shows all 20 NS heritage units. The VGN 1069 is painted exactly like their FM H24-66s.
hey Eric where did you get the M1-A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks and what scale are they.., that was Cool!!!
+troy curtis --In the '60's I worked a few miles from the Detroit Tank Arsenal. Train loads went by every few days.
I don't have nearly as many Lionel trains as you I only have an NYC diesel and a Santa Fe diesel there both the round front
at 15:02, that's the best model I've ever seen!
Are you thinking about getting matching passenger cars for your Lehigh Valley Black Diamond engine?
Eric, the turrets on the M1's are in the wrong direction. Turrets are always in 6 o'clock position during rail and truck transport, as the barrel can be secured and the turret locked. Where were the COKE Express cars to make deliveries back in the 80's while watching Miami Vice ??
At 13:18 that locomotive is a 2-8-8-2, not a 2-6-6-2. Just pointing it out.
I love all your tutorials and I have one question regarding this video. in the timeframe of 19:40ish to 20:00 you have several flat cars with M1 Tanks. are they special made or are they available commercially, and by who. thanks

Do you do carsh
Simple the Best
I'm going to start referring to your loads as the Noah's Ark of rolling freight, 2 of everything - :-)
So jealous of your layout. Wish that you had an open house the last week of August because I was on vacation in the Atlanta area. Oh well.
7:58 the fastest train on rails unlimited. The Polaris.
WOW that was AWESOME Eric!!!!!! Thanks bud!
There was 32 train cars in the being part fo the show and I like trains a lot
How about you run 765 on a 60 car mixed freight
I didnt know u had a weaver black diamond sounds good all do would love to see that other weaver steamer the 4-8-4 i believe keep it up man
All the train cars need is some graffiti so the will look authentic
Hey Eric I was wondering if you have any tank engines in your fleet and if so did you make a video on them? Thanks.
Mr Cube yes and yes I will have one soon
Oh cool. Cant wait.
UP999 is NOT clear ahead. Bridge is out!!! hahaha... Love it Eric! Most excellent and by far some of the best video's on youtube.
Did I hear flange squeal? O scale cars have sound? That's Awesome! I wish HO could do something other than refers
Nice to see some rail action for a change Eric. Do you think that buck will make that jump? I see rail venison .
Eric, it's time to upload part 2 :3
7:59 that MKT Special Texas sound reminds me of LFCD 3964
Nice!
its weird seeing the snow plow/ladders articulate with the wheels.
those montana rail link locomotives were going very fast!
You should also get a Lionel SP GS-4 to go with your GS-2.
Hey Eric, I was wondering if you have any advice for me as I am getting into the hobby while still in college and do you think it would be a good idea to start setting up a layout in an apartment?

You should get matching passenger cars for your SP GS-2.
Those Conrail coal hoppers are really nice!
Where do you get those trains and nice layout are you going to give me one for free if i comment.
+Roel Valle aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no
We Doing the Locomotion aren't we?

You should get a Western Pacific GS-64 from Lionel.
so nice :D
i was never a fan of the gensets but there growing on me.
This is basically the first video I watched when I found ericstrains
