well, I have a family at a courthouse, police, etc so I know for sure they don't drive beetles :DD wouldn't be practical at all - slow and tiny. But someone else... who know.
I'm a forensic psychologist in my day job. It's actually surprisingly common for people to trust 'authority', and override their own best instincts. Trust in authority can cause many people to 'rationalise' suspicious elements of a situation. There have been many studies that have shown how some people can even lose their morals, if they believe they are obeying 'authority'. And real life events have demonstrated that, also. There's a notorious case, where a hoax caller convinced restaurant owners he was a cop. And he ended up persuading the mangeress (who was otherwise law-abiding) to strip search an employee. He claimed the employee had stolen something, and he (the 'cop') couldn't get there quickly. So the managers were persuaded to 'arrest' the employee, and strip-search her. Especially in the Carol Roach case, she was a teenager. The younger the person, the more likely they are to follow 'instructions' in this way. To her, it sounded plausible enough (she needed to file a report for procedural reasons, and the car was undercover - so civilian in appearance).
I would love to hear Carol weigh in and tell us how accurate this depiction really is? It must be amazing to be one of the only people to survive the death car.
