He's like a human version of Ted. Spiritual polar opposites. Rich clearly has a gentle and kind nature unlike the creature his brother was. Sucks for him. I hope he's loved and looked after in his community.
I have a feeling that moment Ted sent him away abruptly was because Ted began having thoughts of harming him, or maybe even killing him as well... and the thoughts became overbearing. Which is very true for most of us. That aside, the ugliness of that experience impacted his entire family and I'm sure cut him right down to his very core. I'm sure he struggles with that pain everyday.
I adored my older brother when I was a kid to come to the realization when I was older that he was a criminal who eventually died in prison. I kept my kids from him but in the end I was the only one that went to prison to see him when he was dying. I didn’t like or trust him but he was my only brother yet I condone nothing he did.
I think he was predisposed for a failure, considering how Ted turned out. There are exceptions to the rule, but the whole family was doomed. Actually, Ted turned out exactly like his grandfather, a psychopath. Mental illnesses are hereditary.
The family of serial killers and evil people are very much the ones totally forgot about in the whole tragic episode. They face being guilty by association, and many times take on the undeserved punishment of their siblings
Indeed it is. 😢 That's why I'm not usually quick to blame the families of the serial killers, unless there's undeniable proof. I know a lot of people are and I can understand why, but there's more to creating a monster than just bad parenting.
He also looks like him from the outside but you realise how much of a gentle soul he is. A guy who looks like ted bundy but has a good heart. It's very ironic.
Sad... But we are not our brothers or parents. He's as different from Ted as night and day. Betrayal is a terrible thing one of the worst things. He was betrayed by his hero. 😢
@ConwayTwitterHe's not sad about losing his brother. He's angry that he didn't know sooner or felt something wrong but couldn't figure out what... He's hurt but not because of the loss. I'm sorry about your loss BTW. I wish peace and comfort for your brother.
It was his biological grandmother posing as his mother who claimed his innocence. I don’t think we heard from his biological mother who he thought was his sister.
Correct, most people don't understand this. The old white haired woman most people believe was TEDs mother was actually his grandmother. TEDs mother was actually his so called "sister"who gave birth to him out of wedlock at about the age of 17, the entire family from that point on raised Ted as her "little brother".
you know nothing about what a mother would feel about her son.... to me its normal that she saw her son as an angel..that's what a normal mother would do. makes sense ? NO... but it is what it is.
@@Allaloneisallweare No, a mother in her right mind would not see her child as an angel. That's a great way to create an entitled monster. Of course, it goes without saying that I feel so bad for TB's victims and their families, but I also feel so sorry for his brother. I can feel his pain. Murderers not only kill their victims, but hurt and destroy the lives of their family and loved ones.
I'm a big brother who had little brother who was ten years younger than me and left us way too soon in 2001 at the age of 12. That little boy thought I could walk on water and knowing that, I just can't even imagine what this guy has gone through psychologically.
I love reading the support Richard is receiving on this thread. My heart hurts for him, the pain he obviously feels, the trauma he has endured and he manages to be a caring, compassionate human being. Prayers to Richard. You are a true survivor!

Rich, you are absolutely one of the kindest people I have met, I'm sorry that you have been carrying this burden with you. May only good vibes go your way, dude!
You do know he's a regular dude, right? Also just realized this is a re-upload from a documentary, I was surprised to see something online because he's always been a fairly private person.
His comment about his brother cutting the visit short and the reason being that he was feeling the urge coming on... I found that moment a disturbing flash of TB's nature.
Yes, I thought that too. He isn’t physically like his brother but he has kinda the same voice as Ted and lots of his mannerisms. That’s were the similarities end though. Rich comes across as a very decent, compassionate man, who is able to feel empathy for others. God bless you, Rich❤
I saw this documentary. The hurt the younger brother and the fiancé suffer is just so palpable. I think the brother now not being around people is understandable. How do you trust anyone after what one of the people you trusted most does what Ted did. How do you trust yourself to read anyone again? It’s just so sad. We know that nobody could know. But it’s hardest to forgive yourself.
Sir, you are not your brother. You are not a monster. Please do not let the weight crush you anymore. I had monsters in my family, too. I know it is so hard.
@@TannerGoated that's bullshit!!! Every person is different. No one knows for sure what causes people to become like Ted. Some people are just born bad . But it's not freaking contagious or hereditary!!
Ted had no empathy or compassion. I have a narcissistic sister I have nothing to do with. How she intimidated me. I remember driving out to party at the reservoir in Appleton City, Mo. I asked her to stop so I could move a turtle crossing the road. She ran over it. Then laughed. I can't even wrap my head around what Ted did to Rich. I hope he finds peace and love 🕊️
That's weird. I accidentally ran over a possum when I was 16 going to get my driver's license in 2001. I still very bad about that. I always look out for the ducks dogs cats anything plus humans. It's best to stay far away from that sister of yours. I have one also Katie but, she has a six year old kid. Good for her.
That was POWERFUL stuff. I think I would change my name if I was Ted Bundy's brother - I'm sure people, learning his last name, have jokingly asked "any relation to TED Bundy?," more than once.
This is precisely my thought! And I know, somewhat amorphously, that I would have made this joke in some way or other over my short lifetime. It’s made me rethink irreverent speech and have more compassion for those who really don’t commonly cross our minds x
I can't imagine the depression this guy has lived with his entire life. Props to him for staying on this earth and not taking himself out, bc I can garauntee he's struggled with suicidal ideation.
He is such a strong guy. Knowing what his own family member did, someone he trusted, and he is still living and working through it. He hasn’t given up, and he never should. I am truly sorry for all who are affected by Ted’s sickening acts. This was so brave of him to share his story. His own perspective of it all. For everyone out there, I love you 😢💕
This is one part of the documentary where I did find myself crying, because you can see the pain in his eyes as he speaks. Especially when he looks at the picture, 4:10 It's horrible how he isolates himself from the world due to what Ted Bundy did. He absolutely loved him as a kid, only to find out later what a monster he truly was. I hope he finds happiness one day.
I know what it feels like to think someone you loved most was the complete opposite of the person you thought they were. It's heartbreaking. It's really something you really never get over. You always wonder what signs you missed.
To be betrayed by someone you loved and trusted so completely is the worst. It’s like being killed yet you’re alive. For him I feel that he’s going through this death continually. I wish he could really let it all go, and I bet he feels the same way, but…
When you are betrayed by someone you love they steal everything of real value from you. Not money, but they take and destroy all the precious moments and memories you had with that person. They make you question everything they had done for as long as you knew them and you question yourself about how could put yourself in that vulnerable of a position ever again. On top of it all, that person that you thought you knew just dies -- immediately and out of the blue -- but they attacked your past, present and future on the way out.
Its a shame its affected him like this. It certainly wasnt HIS fault Ted did what he did. But then, I havent walked a mile in his shoes, so I cant know the depth of his pain.
I had tears in my eyes after one minute of this interview. Such a tragity. He loved his brother. An ultimate betrayal. I can't imagine how his mother felt.
It’s really startling how these two men were brothers. Richard seems like such a good guy that’s been forced to carry his memories and feelings for his brother with him through life. There is no way that he’s escaped some deep scars. I really pray that he finds peace enough to give him some quality of a good life. ❤️❤️🇨🇦
Richard is so clearly a good person. I mean, he genuinely has the decency that his brother only wore as a mask. It underscores the tragic weirdness of this kind of evil--with most sorts of extremely violent people, they're just the most extreme examples from a pool of generally awful relations and acquaintances. That someone like Richard could be so evidently pure-hearted, in such close proximity (of both nature and nurture) to someone as evil and cruel as his brother is... almost baffling. And that his brother could genuinely care for, even adore, him or any one human being, while being capable of such dehumanizing violence to others... boggles the mind.
