Hi Vidya, two weeks vacation pokumpo plant enthu chaiyum ennu alochichapo anu ee video kanhnathu. I will try to follow the bottle method as my plants are all in small pots. I have a question. Can the bottle method be used for my snake plant and also few other plants like basket plant, African violet & peace lily which I water only from the bottom. What can I do about them? I cannot leave them in a tray as I have read it causes root rot if left in water for long. As you are a plant expert, any tips for this would be really helpful. Thank you🙂.
Thank you Prathibha. Snake plant can go without watering for 2 weeks. Just water well before you go and then come back and water. The bottle should work for peace lilly and african violets. I don’t water them from bottom at all, just the usual way. Not familiar with the basket plant. If the leaves are thick and fleshy i think they can go without water for 2 weeks. Doesn’t it need a lot of moisture? A bottle should still work coz it is like drip irrigation right?
@@WhatsUrHomeStoryMalayalam Thank you so much Vidhya 😊. Good to know about the snake plant, I thought maybe because of summer it needs like once a week. I will then water before I leave. Will follow the bottle method for peace lily & African violet. Yes the basket plant has thick leaves and is a pretty easy care plant after it is big. I used to water frequently when it was a baby and now maybe twice a week. Guess I will use bottle method for that one too. It will be my first time trying this method. I will bring all my balcony plants indoors as we have heat wave warnings.

Thanks for sharing ur tips Vidya! I have used these methods as well when we go on vacations.. Another one i found useful is thread method - basically i used old T-shirt strips and milk jug with water...one end of T-shirt strips placed in water jug and other end near plant's root soil... Water will drip water to plants roots slowly and works for 1-2 week.. Even after returning from vacation we can use this method for watering especially container plants , just keep jugs filled occasionally and change strips as it gets old.

Yes another tip. Keep a bucket inverted under a tap. Open the tap so that water falls drop by drop or in a threadlike manner on the surface of inverted bucket. Keep the plants around this bucket. Water drops splashes when it falls on the surface of the bucket. It will be just enough to maintain humidity and keep the plants moist .
