When I blew a head gasket in my 6.7 I wondered how this could happen since I had never had a 5.9 head gasket issue. When I pulled the head and saw those coolant passages I knew exactly why. That was 2012. I haven't bought another 6.7 since.
Seriously this was awesome can you do another one of these videos with the 4 cylinder B series? 3.9(5.9), 4.5(6.7) and specifically additional proprietary info for the 3.3 block?
What about the motor mount areas I know the old 12 valve is 4 bolt what about 98 and 1/2 to 2002 24-valve versus the Gen 3 the 5.9 and the 6.7 Cummins are they all 6 bolt and in the same area?
@@CUTTERUPROB so you could interchange the mount bracket between the blocks? well better put, Is the bolt holes for the mounts the same pattern across all the blocks?

Hey Rob, so the larger 8 plate 6.7L cooler will fit in the 5.9L & not have any adverse effects? Also what CR engine years can you add a 2nd piston squirter too #6 & what size ect? You once told me I could shim the oil bypass spring 50k to increase the psi to safely run compounds & a bypass or centrafuge. Would your also drill & tap the cooler for its own port or T off one of the turbos ? I like the idea of a separate port, where is the best place to ads one? Thanks ! Dusty
6.7 sits further up in the truck by about 1-2” compared to when I had the 5.9 in I had to trim off that much on the turbo tubes and floor for the g56 or maybe it’s me idnk
Should have too. The mounts are in the same spot ( well I pretty sure that are ) I have put them in a few trucks no issues. That said if you used a 6.7 engine plate it’s deep by 1/8 of a inch of so
I would like your opinion. I have a 2017 6.7 in my RAM 5500 and would like to add a coolant block drain for maintenance purposes. Where would you place it? Thanks in advance Luis
I installed a 6.7 on my 05 ram i have it running with 5.9 fuel system, and injectors from original engine only issue is it smokes at 1,300-1,500 rpm what adjustments can I make?
What factory girdle is best ? And what size bolt for an early 6.7 bought and engine and they are missing bolts and girdle. And the early girdle is discontinued and so are the bolts please help thanks i. Advice
@@CUTTERUPROB that what i was thinking too i just didn't know if having the holes and drop down in the new one would be better for keeping oil on the crank. why would you build a 6.1 when a 6.7 is available? I noticed your video where you sleeved the block back to 5.9. was that for running a 12 valve head? my question I guess is why lose cubic inches when the stroke is the same? can't find any info on torque differences with bigger cubes and the same stroke. I am building one right now but wonder if it is a waste of money.
alot has to do with what you want to do with it, i sleeve the 6.7 block to a std 5.9 sore for strength, the ad dis of the 6.1 does make a different in spool and torque, but really comes down to what you want,
ok 2 questions #1 will that common rail girdle fit on a 12 valve storm block? #2 will a 12 valve head bolt on to a 6.7 block? just curious I've never tried to mix parts from common rail/ 6.7 to 5.9/12 valve stuff.
I might buy a 1998 12 valve. But I read around in 1998 had some 53 casting. Can you do a video on the best and worst casting in Cummins blocks. And does the 1998 12 valve use 53 blocks. Thanks
It’s not that easy. If you want to run a 12v head with it as a 6.7 the pistons design doesn’t work with small injectors. I will do a video of what I mean shortly
@@CUTTERUPROB makes sense! Im piecing stuff together and thought if it's worth while i can focus on that instead of just redoing 5.9 12v engine but a video would be greatly appreciated!

Great video! Thanks for sharing, this is exactly what I was looking for! Subscribed and looking forward to learning more from you. 👍
Very good info. My oil pump kind of “walks” a bit more than I’d like in my 12 valve I wonder if they sold me a cr pump.
the 12v is the small pump. so you won't have a cr pump on a 12v without machine work but i have seen some 12v pumps looser then others
Also commrail pumps are straight cut, older 5.9s helical

It can bolt up yes. But you want to figure the trans part out first
5.9 block full coolant flow around bores, 6.7 siamese bore casting. That's why the 6.7 blocks are stronger
I am going to explain it in a later videos

Girdle no and 12v head yes. But have to do couple things. My race truck is a 6.7 block 12v head
Can u run a complete 6.7 short block and runs 5.9 head with 03-04 injectors ?? If so what head gasket and head bolts do u run the ones for the 6.7?
You can just run 5.9 injectors in the 6.7 head.

I can do a video on that no problem
To the best of my knowledge, The 53 block was only used on the 98 24v.
I want to buy a 6.7 for my 05 ram Cummins. The engine I saw has fire damage. Burnt. Do I’ve to do the head gasket on it if buy?
you would want to completely tare it down and do bearing , rings and gaskets at a min
Are 6.7 and 5.9 the same length and weight? Thanks for the video?
Basically yes
So can i use a comon rail 5.9 block with a vp44 head to replaces a cracked 53 block?
You can but have to modify the block to take the timing case
You should do a video on heads?
Can do
Are the lower water inlets/ ac brackets the same between the two?
The brackets it’s self no.
The 6.7 oil cooler has 1 more row than the 5.9CR oil cooler
Ben a while seen I counted them. They very well could be
So......if my 5.9 CR ever gives up, I can swap it with a 6.7 short block and have no issues?
you can with the right pistons
I would bet a nickel someone has a kit for that. Still, I’m a little concerned about the coolant passages. The steam holes would be dysfunctional.
Do you know how many thousandths lift on my p-pump is stock for 14 degrees , I believe my timing arm is bent in my pump
depends on what pump you have
@@CUTTERUPROB I have a 175 hp pump
so there is no way to tell the difference between a 5.9 or 6.7 block while its intalled in a truck?
block there is a couple things. i will do a video
Some people told me they bolted 12v head directly on the 6.7 block
Yes they bolt on
@@CUTTERUPROB no modification or drilling needed? Besides injectors and lines of course
@@CUTTERUPROB what about the steam hole? The tiny hole between cylinders
How big of a bore can you go to in a 5.9 block with or without a sleeve?
.040 over is the biggest piston you can buy for them
What does "common rail" mean? And what year or model did these begin? Thanks!
It’s the style of injections system. I will do a video on that. In a Cummins in a dodge truck it started in 2003
@@CUTTERUPROB Thank you!
So I can by a 6.7 short block when my 5.9 block takes a dump?
Yes. But depends on the engine ( year of engine you have ) if it will have chance parts
Love 12v
Nice!
Are the oil pans the same bolt pattern?
Common rail to common rail yes
So you can p pump the 6.7 block, manual fuel pump?
You can. But it’s not a bolt on thing with out a custom timing case

in the end i would say there close to the same for both but if i was picking it would be a 6.7
one reason the 6.7 is stronger, the cylinders are joined or "Siamesed"
sure are, i will do a video on it but i need a couple block to cut up first
Do you know the differences between the 07-12 6.7 block vs the 13-18 block?
basically nothing
Can 12 valve 5.9 be bored and stroked to a 6.4 or 6.7 ?
not but you can doa 6.1 if you use a 6.7 crank in a a 12v
98 was last 12v, 98.5 24v Not that it really matters tho.
