As soon as the game came out I just knew it was a matter of time before someone made an animatic to this song! : D I was starting to think I was the only one who saw the potential dark side to the lyrics, but that's why I love it so much. Some of my favourite songs deceive you with an upbeat melody only to reveal a darker subject matter. (or at least an implied one). I love the contrast of it.

Actually, that’s good. This guy is very clearly intended to be the antagonist of the game. He’s very toxic, even if it’s in a textbook yandere way, rather than a realistic one. You can probably better enjoy the horror of the horror game if you are not simping for him, because you can look at his actions objectively.
For the people who do simp, I don’t think you should feel bad for it. As I’ve already said, I don’t really see this being real. If it is, of course call the police as you should when you see murder. But I don’t think a lot of people can say that they’ve dated a murderer. There is a big fourth wall that also should be mentioned. If at any point you don’t want to continue playing the game, you can just close it out. In a weird way, this creates an out that makes this is a safe and fun experience for the player, maybe not for the protagonist though. The antagonist also can’t actually affect anything happening within the players life. Once the game shuts down, it has no effect on day-to-day life. I am not saying that the creator should add these things, even if they were possible. What I’m saying is, there is a disconnect between the audience and the protagonist. The protagonist is experiencing this for real, while the audience isn’t. I don’t know who said this, but it describes why people like these tropes. “people like tsunderes/yanderes because they aren’t real”.
I have a feeling that somebody’s going to ask if I’m OK with another couple because I’m OK with this couple even though I may not simp for it myself. I do have my limits, and here’s a couple where I draw the line.
In theory, this should apply to the people who like the couple from 50 shades for example. But again, your mileage really depends on how you see the couple. In 50 shades, when I heard about the love interest withdrawing consent from the protagonist, with her screaming “please don’t hit me”, I can see that actually happening to someone. I can’t say I’ve actually seen it, but I can see it happening. Add the fact that the protagonist is begging for mercy, expressing immense amount of pain rather than just a slight, and I find that couple be very scary.
So far, it’s the players choice whether the protagonist says yes or no. For example, whether you decide to go out with him. This does not mean he isn’t toxic. But because the protagonist is not opposing depending on what decisions you make, and the antagonist’s actions is just way out of the realms of what I see possible. This couple is different from the one from 50 shades. Although, even though I really really really really do not get why people like Anna and Christian from 50 shades, I can get why people like this couple, and I get why people would apply the same logic to 50 shades. This is my personal hard line, but people may not draw the line in the same place.
I hope that this makes the shipping side of this fandom make a little bit more sense. It’s not that people actually want people in real life to experience this type of relationship. But because these are fictional characters, it’s a different dynamic between the audience and the protagonist. Also, you haven’t read the fanfiction. Something I found odd is that people typically change the antagonist’s personality. This could either be unintentional or intentional. But typically people try to water down his toxic behavior. But that’s a whole different subject.
Since YB says in the game that Fuboo is his mother, I love that the line actually fits him
