- What happens when your service member gets orders to leave RIGHT before your vacation? You, the spouse, bring your best friend instead and GO TO DISNEY! Don't cancel your plans...change them! As a military spouse YOU can be the sponsor at Shades of Green as long as you bring your current valid military I.D. This is what just happened to us so instead of Tim and I having our adults only trip I called up my back up husband (i.e. the bestie, Megan) and we drove down from Charleston, SC to Orlando, FL for a girls only trip for the Fourth of July weekend! No regrets, no hard feelings...just a couple of ladies in their late 30s catching up and reliving the magic. It was awesome! In this video we try some not so great road snacks, tell some stories and reminisce about the good ole days and then check into our room at Shades of Green. This was only Megans second time staying here and FIRST time in a standard room so I wanted to document her impressions as a NON Military member staying at a Military installation at Walt Disney World. I hope this genuinely helps someone who has questions about what to expect and how to plan their trip with things don't work out the way you originally planned. You can't forget to be HAPPY, not just STRONG!

Shades of Green has the largest standard rooms, by square footage, of any Disney resort. So, even if they show wear and tear, they're still big.

We stayed here a few years ago on our first trip and we loved it. We've since stayed at other deluxe Disney resorts, and I would still NOT count Shades out. It's a great value, and we loved the calm home-y feel there. This was such a good video.

We ended up with a severely dated room on the Magnolia side during our last trip. Still had an incredible time of course and will still choose Shades again and again, but the towel rack for the shower in the room with the toilet definitely threw me. I’ll be excited to hear an announcement for updates in the future!

my husband just got promoted to First Sergeant and my first thought was...i hope it does not bump us up to a higher room rate at Shades....thankfully it does not. lol

I’m so glad I found your channel. I’m planning a family trip to Disney in 2026. It’ll be a big group from toddlers to grandparents age. Are the rooms without carpet recently renovated too? With the double sinks too? I had no idea carpetless rooms were an option. I currently have a vac planned with magnolia side double sinks no attached room request...but I wonder if I can add carpetless too my million requests 😅.
Great questions! We actually haven’t stayed in them, personally. I’ve only heard of other people talk about them so I’d be curious to see what they’re like too. Maybe we will make that specific request sometime and show that on a video. And all you can do is ask! I would prioritize your requests though so they know what’s most important to you just in case they can’t grant every wish. ✨

Love this video, yall are so fun! I agree that SOG is so nice and every room appears to be well thought out with accessibility in mind. We stayed at a Disney resort in 2019 and the room was definitely cramped in comparison. I also enjoy how you are not overstimulated at SOG. With the parks and kids SOG is a great place to decompress.
🫶🏼 Agree completely! I also feel like the more you go to SOG the more “homey” it starts to feel. And there’s definitely a sense of belonging that’s very hard to transmit into words 🥰

My friend who will be coming with me, he's also non-military, will he be able to make purchases at the Exchange since I'll be his sponsor?
Yes! He can purchase anything at the Exchange EXCEPT alcohol/cigarettes. You would have to purchase those as the military sponsor. He can however purchase alcohol at the restaurants anytime, with or without you :)
@battlegroundbiscuits That's fantastic, thank you! Looks like SOG will be my choice. I do tend to get over stimulated so having a hotel room to come back to that's not themed will be rather nice for my mind.
Do the the standard rooms have microwaves? Or is there a place in the resort to use a microwave
There are no microwaves in the standard rooms. BUT you can find 2 microwaves downstairs in the Express Cafe dining area free for guests to use 😁
