Once you walk up the center lines, don't release them or you gonna get launched badly. So prereq before you do this is unhook - absolute priority if you ask me.
Thanks for addressing this issue, I just want to point out a serious flaw with the technique you’re demonstrating. You should definitely not walk up to a powered kite still hooked in by the chicken loop. If you loose your grip for whatever reason, it will have up to 15 feet of line to accelerate and power up with you at the receiving end. Unhook (but stay in the safety leash) before you walk up to the high V, this will make it much safer and there’s really no downside.
I have to self land all the time. Met with a group at a lake once and everyone helped launch and land their kites.. so nobody knew how to self land or launch! I reverse launched and flipped my 14m cabrinha and everyone was in disbelief because id only been kitesurfing one season. I was in disbelief they didn't know how!! Everyone talks about going to kite schools and being "safe" but i taught myself everything with youtube videos and now im much safer than they are! I learned how not to put myself in bad situations on the water and how to get out of one. Kite schools can only get you so far and all the "keeping you safe" makes you more vulnerable. I think its an absolute must to know how to launch and land yourself, it makes water relaunch a sinch.
That’s so awesome Aaron I have a core riot XR 12 and I’m I’m a noob. I just got in the kite boarding so I love y’all videos. I gotta come down and take some lessons with yall 🤟🏻
Yes we would prefer to eject in relatively "strong winds". But if we had a choice on high or low V, well id take a high v any-day for a forced self land. But we are tempted to prove a point by going out in 30kts during our next videos.
@@ewatersports in my opinion no meter you have low or high V it is problem to land without help in strong gusty wind. Best option out there it is attach leash to something and leave kite there and than grab kite by yourself.
@@gastonbarouille767 yes to anything. Tree, bench, pole etc.I remember once I wanted to land a kite in very strong wind, because it's picked up very strong and I was together with kite buddy. And we couldn't help each other, because you can't stand on feet even. So landed kite by attaching safety leash around bench on beach, than attaching it to chickenloop and than could walk and grab a kite. So in this case this was best solution :) last one, of course, release safety.
Thanks! I have missed self landings from the low V when I switched to the high V Core. I was taught that you have to carefully of dive bomb at the edge of the wind window to get it to curve when close to the ground. Getting pretty good at it but I rather do this!
This is great. But one thing for low V is generally we don't put the kite down like that. If you fly to edge of window and at about 6ft off the ground crash the kite it lands in spot where you can sumply pull the top lines and all us good. I agree if you put it on wingtip this is an issue. But why put it on a wingtip? Downside with low V us you have to crash kite to ground - so not as kind to the kite. What do you think?
This is such a myth-buster. I'd always dreamt of owning an XR, but the only reason I didn't was because i was told High-V is very hard to self land. Here in the inland lakes of Upper Midwest (with tress all around the lake and rarely a nice beach), almost everyone always drift launches the kite and self lands it. Would you say Drift Launching is any tough with High-V? Or even that is a myth (or misunderstanding) I had?
Hi there, Also from mid west with sketchy drift launch locations. Most of my kites are XRs with high V and I don’t notice any difference, when drift launching- the main thing is good line discipline to ensure they are extended fully without any tangles of debris.
I am flying Core Kites on my Kite career since eight years. Never thought on things being like that being a problem.. It drifts launch works as well - of course you need to take care of that line don’t get a tangled on any objects under the water. In any case, Self launching and landing (landing using quick release) on the water is clearly in most cases safer than on the beach. OK you will have a wet kite - but better than damaging the Kite or a damaged Kiter…
Hey, this is really helpful. Is this part of the best practice technique at the point holding the V connection in your hand to walk a bit more in the windwindow to pull at both center lines or pull just to top center line to let the kite fall down on the fronttube? I have some mixed experiences with that technique: at 12 to 14 knots a large kite like a 17 or 13.5 the Kite will likely fall down on the front tube and flag out. Today, I tried it at 19 kn with my 10 m and the kite re-launched when I held it on the top the centerline and flipped around - nothing dangerous happened. It was flying without pressure but relaunch is definitely something to keep in mind, and in respect to staying away from any sharp objects like grass or wood on the beach (I saw in another video to walk up the lines and pull the top of centerline to pull the Kite down on the front tube). How was your experience at a little bit more wind like about 20 kn and 9 or 10m kite?
The experience is the same, but in the end. Its almost near impossible to self land effectively and safely in higher breezes. But if we have the choice. We would want to us a High V, Or you can just eject your kite and it would work the same.

Thanks for adding that. We would certainly want to be ready to eject if things go rouge. We don't ever even want anyone to self land or launch.
Good point!!

Myth busted! Thanks Elite! Self landing a CORE kite is possible. Using the quick release is always an option too.
Absolutely!
Please show it in stronger wind 😅

Awesome video. How about one on beach self launching? (Not tethered)
great info on this video to show us the hi V landing and to show it compared to low v!

Thanks for making this! Could you just walk further up the center lines even on a low V, and then pick your top line once you're closer?
Yes you can! But the lines are sooo thin that if the kite powers up
It will be one heck of a rope burn
Thanks for the quick reply!

It’s easy to latch onto the unknown. And even easier to make rumors for brands someone may not own or sell.
Self launch or land is easier and safer.

Low V - have you tried to pull the lower line instead, to have the kite sit 1/2 on leading edge - and the walk the line?
Yes multiple ways to do it. one of which is to do that. Every wind range creates a better or worse technique
awesome
