  • In this video we share a little project we finished up for a local guy on a stock Model A frame. This is a "Tardel" Step with boxing plates throughout to allow a larger OHV engine to be installed. This will give a 2.5-3" drop. The book we mention is "How To Build a Traditional Ford Hot Rod" By Mike Bishop and Vern Tardel. It can be found on eBay and Amazon. Thanks for watching! Be sure to like and subscribe to keep track of all of our builds and adventures.

Great book your talking bout bought it several years ago.
Btw you need to weld cut the edges of that rear crossmember off to fit it into the body..but I guess you know that 😊

The book is really helpful. The fitment to the body was all done by the customer that brought the frame to us. Thanks for watching! -Mike/ITG

Rarely done I like the recessed boxing plates. Hides the welding somewhat while providing gas and brake line protection while retaining the factory frame edge.

Good video Matt. Your absolutely right in how you build Model A frames for hot rods. All one piece, front to back & boxing the chassis to carry the extra weight of modern V8's. If you want to see how not to do it, keep watching someone else on RUclips, mangle the frame a build it in three sections. Absolutely taboo!

Love the chassis .my chassis guy removed the original rear cross member and removed the body support mount and narrowed it also gave it back to me that way , he is meant to be the guru , I’m disappointed as you can guess , I think I can make it work .it’s hard to find good help. I may look for another chassis.

Book is how to build a traditional hot rod by Vern tardel. 100% honesty though- I wish I did a lot more than just a stack z. 4 or 5 inches in between would have been cool

Thanks Ben, We should have mentioned the full title of the book. This frame is going to be under a full fender car. It can be tough to step the frame more then this and still pull off the look. Thanks for watching -Mike/ITG

I thought the same thing after I finished my AV8 open wheel roadster. haha, I also needed one like Matt's A coupe even though mine came out great. By the way Matt, how much is your A coupe channeled? I really like the way it sets! Great job with that one!

Do you recommend an x member for an old stock small block even though the frame is boxed?

We do not have any videos currently on channeling a hot rod. Matt did it on his 5 window model a coupe before the channel existed. We will be sure to add it to the list of future videos! We always have new projects showing up, thanks for watching - Mike/ITGs
