Fantastic vid! Makes me appreciate all the hard work that goes into it! Half way through I was hoping to see the customer's reaction when the first see it. That would've been icing on the cake! Thanks for posting!
Do you still spray a clear base coat after you do each section of masks and before you re mask? Also, do you paint with oil base paints still? Or have you switched over to water based?
I tried a helmet just recently using your method of masking and airbrushing. First of all, genius and love the control that comes with it. I had just s couple questions about the masking. I did a larger football helmet. I used about 6" x 12" sections of tape. It was hard to prevent them crinkling. How do you prevent crinkling? And the 2nd question was when cutting and replacing the mask, I had some areas that were just ever so slightly off. And some where when I pulled them off at the end, some paint came with it. Have you encountered these and how did you handle them?
Hey man that's an awesome mask great work, I myself wont to paint my mask I have an airbrush kit but don't really know where to go for supply's I also live in Calgary any help would be greatly appreciated thx
Thanks Ricardo! Well currently I am using 5 star automotive clearcoat, however I may be switching to a company called Tamco, they make a 'High Impact Clear' which is pretty much designed for goalie masks. It seems to be the clear that the guys who do the pros masks are using.
Jackerogers26 na it doesn’t matter what color the mask is to start. I prep prime and base the masks before doing my artwork, so the white that you see on this mask is actually painted.
Hi thanks Noah, I'm in Calgary Alberta Canada. I don't like to discuss prices on open boards but feel free to email with any inquiries brother! jbo.airbrush@gmail.com thanks!
Do You mean like a non pro?? Yes absolutely that is the majority of my customer base, in fact this mask is for a non pro! If you have an inquiry please send to jbo.airbrush@gmail.com
That is amazing ! I do airbrush also and I did a mask with the 3 Hanson brothers from the movie slap shot I freeze framed the one scene when they were listening to the star spangled banner in the movie ! It took me forever and a lot of freehand with the faces what advice can you give when your doing portraits on the mask cause last time it was a night mare but with professional opinion is there something I’m missing to make it a little easier cause I have an order for Johnny cash comming in please help thank you so much Marc ( FUBAR AIRBRUSHING)
Looks great. The only reason I don't work with airbrushes that much is the possibility of ruining hours of work with 1 spit or spider. I usually just use them for models and shirts. I guess, if I was working on a masked off section it would be easier to fix or go over though. What paints, mix ratio's, additives and pressures do you recommend (especially for close detail work)? I have a goalie mask for myself and want to do a really great job on it (one that looks like it took a few months, which, it will, knowing how I work), but that's ok. I'm retired now (Fire Dept. 30 years) Did a lot of free work for them :) (Made them $30,000 in tee shirt sales one Firefighter Olympics) Subscribed.
Yes the mask is cleared with automotive clear coat after. 4 coats, then I let dry, then sand with 600 wet, clear again 3 coats then sanded and polished. Didnt include that in the video tho cause that itself could be a whole tutorial video.
Wooaa!!that was owesome!!😁 Good work for amazing air brush'this is the best video i've ever seen,i got so many info and skill here, what the best(brands)airbrush u used?by the way,How many hour u spend for each helmet?however the clear paint so easy to scratch, what the best clear we can used for it?so many work here"how many prize for phantom head or alien head in 3D air brush in order? Like👍😃 Special thanks for JBo airbrush. #Malaysian airbrush fan.
Hey there thanks so much haha!! I mostly just use Iwata airbrushes, some masks have taken over 100 hours!! but i would say 40-80 hours is more usual for me. I use automotive clear coat, so the same as what goes on a car. A phantom or alien head would definitely be cool ideas for designs!! Thanks so much what a great message!!
Well I'm just putting up the process on some of the masks I've painted in the past. I did not paint that one so I wont be doing a video on it unfortunately.
Well I just film the jobs that I'm already doing for customers and then use the footage for these tutorials. So I would do a Star Trek helmet if a customer was getting me to do one, which is definitely a possibility! I have painted star trek shoes but I think that's about all I have painted Star Trek related.
Thanks a lot!! I'm kind of an everything man when it comes to what I paint and I take the jobs that come to me, I do have a few goalie masks coming up tho that should be cool!!
Very nice result! Enjoyed the commentary that guided the process.
Thanks a lot Siniad, its my least favorite part of making the video haha, but I'm getting more used to it. lol
Absolutely amazing work, love it!!! 😃

Wicked job! I am a huge fan of paper-tape. The levels you built up on the colours is amazing. What are you running for your guns and paint?
I am mostly using my Iwata HPC Plus these days and my paint is ProSpray by Valspar.
great work! thx
what kind of paint you're using to finish a helmet?
Thanks Ricardo! Well currently I am using 5 star automotive clearcoat, however I may be switching to a company called Tamco, they make a 'High Impact Clear' which is pretty much designed for goalie masks. It seems to be the clear that the guys who do the pros masks are using.
so idk if you will see this but its worth asking my question is do u have to start with a white blank mask or can it be black?
Jackerogers26 na it doesn’t matter what color the mask is to start. I prep prime and base the masks before doing my artwork, so the white that you see on this mask is actually painted.

What is the name of the paper pre mask you use. I accidentally bought the wrong one, and I don't want to do that again.
