Hullo! Associate of CultureHustle here!! (Small business that makes Black 4.0). In my experience, Black 4.0 works best when applied using a paintbrush in one thick layer, no cutting and no airbrushing. Obviously that wasn’t really an option in this case, and the sculpture is fantastic, but for _maximum_ results, that is what I recommend. The paint works by basically having hundreds of thousands of microscopic ‘probes’ that stick out from the paints surface, once dry, to absorb light and create a matte effect. These tiny projections from the surface work best the taller they are (hence- if a thick coat is applied), so any disturbance of that (aka, water, projection through an airbrush, or a varnish that would absorb into the surface and destroy its light-trapping effect) will be detrimental to its ‘blackness’. However, we are absolutely thrilled with this sculpture and the idea behind it, as the whole ethos of the paint and the business is that the paint is used by artists and sculptors and creative minds for all and any ideas they have. It turned out marvellous, thank you for sharing your experience!
I was going to say the same thing. I haven't used any of the black.0 lines, but I know how they work. The thick single coat and slow drying are required to cause the nanoparticles to raise from the surface so they can gobble up all those photons.
Another thing is strong direct lighting will show the dimensions. Having the back light be more abrasive than any direct lighting will assist greatly in the effect.
Your understanding of the muscular system is so amazingly accurate. Especially considering the odd pose, but still being able to maintain accuracy.. so cool
Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.
That black is pretty darn black. I really like the way it turned out. I actually think its a good thing that its not so black that the whole thing turns into a void because depending on the light and shadow if you look real hard you can see some of the features of the muscles where light is hitting it. However where the shadows hit forms a void where all you see is the silhouette which is really neat and adds to the creepy factor. Very very cool!

A few thoughts on my end. First of all, don't apologize for taking longer on the detail, love it whenever artists take their time to refine their works, makes the end product all the more impressive to look at. Second, it feels kind of funny for you to make something like this since one of my characters in Champions Online is more or less exactly this character, only completely blacked out with red pupils and fangs. And third, looking at the fanged version gives me heavy Nausicaa vibes, almost expected to see little nuclear beams bursting from his mouth at the end like a more demented version of the God Warriors.
When you said you liked adding all the details even if it's a "waste of time" all I can think of is the fact that art should not just be about the end product or display but the joy of creating in and of itself. It shouldn't be a chore. So if anything makes it more enjoyable, do it!
Faces are such an interesting concept to show its different phases. I LOVE this so much. I adore the changing face masks, it changes the mood so much. The baby face is my favorite, it’s so unnerving. Amazing job omg
You said that you cut the Black 4.0 with water. And I have to wonder unless, you were using distilled water, if that had something to do with the paint not being as black as you had hoped. There are impurities in the water, unless it was distilled, that will alter the color of the paint once it's dry because those dissolved particles are left behind.
I would just like to say I hope you continue making videos as long as you feel like it. I know you may have been through a lot in life and it's taken its toll on you, but the art you create is breathtaking and you can genuinely feel the connection you have between yourself and the sculptures you make. You are so underrated and are by far one of my favourite artists to watch to unwind. I hope life isn't too harsh on you, as you seem like an amazing, empathetic individual. Please keep being as you are. Thank you for all the content you've created.

Thank you so much for sharing your creative process, reasoning behind your choices, as well as your mistakes and troubles. It's been a delight watching you grow your skill. Waiting for the next video, whenever it may come up < 3
would've been super cool if you went with a sort of drama mask direction with all the faces, but this is extremely creepy and beautiful in its own right. awesome job!!
this is fantastic!! deliciously creepy. love the fanged face. i thought the concrete turned out pretty cool too - makes it feel like he's emerging out of the basement of an abandoned building or something
This is amazing. Its so wonderful to find the little corners of youtube with genuine, thoughtful, intelligent, and creative people sharing and thinking about their work. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
I'm also a sculptor, although I mostly make fantasy/ LOTR sort of creatures. Honestly I tend to put in details that only I would notice and know the story behind the scene that the sculpt takes place in. Always absolutely amazing work Art Chong! Also most of the time when you get cracks in a polymer clay piece, it's because of trapped air pockets in the clay itself, most of the time you can just poke around the sculpture and see if you can find any spots that "dip down" and then spring back up. You can use something like a needle tool or a sharp blade to "pop" them, you could also just poke a hole into the sculpt until you reach the tinfoil layer, so that any possibly trapped air pockets can escape. Hope this helps.
Partway through here, I hear you talking about being “a bad RUclipsr” and a slight tone of “maybe I shouldn’t worry about the details as much” or justifying your choices. Dual observation. You must actually be somewhat confident, as you are still creating and doing a great job, despite these feelings. You’ve overcome your thoughts and mastered an art form. But don’t ever let anyone say you’re a bad RUclipsr. A RUclipsr creates good content. That should always be the standard. And I’m already learning an absolute wealth of information, and enjoying this, and it makes me want to go sculpt. It’s inspiring me to tackle my own projects. So, you are actually a great RUclipsr. You remind me of Thalasso hobbyer. He focuses on details even when it goes completely under-appreciated or unnoticed. That’s the highest comparison I can make, and in my eyes, that makes you one of the greatest. Seriously, well done. This is amazing.
Do you think the reason the black paint on the body wasn’t like the paint in the mouth and eyes of the mask face because you watered it down? Because to apply the paint on the mask you used the actual paint and it looked like expected but in the body you watered it down and used an airbrush so maybe you watering it down made some sort of difference? Anyways, aside from that, this is quite the horrifying and spine-chilling sculpture. It looks incredible!
What an amazing project! The way you started with the skeleton, and formed all the muscles and tendons was astonishing, it's really interesting to see how well you understand how muscles stretch and deform in various poses. The final piece reminds me of the SCP-096, really cool. Also, 'Broken Vessel' was a great choice for the reveal, it fit the vibe of the sculpt really well. :)
The black genuinely makes it looks like something is supposed to be there but isn't there, I don't know if that makes sense or not but if it does please tell me if you see it too
Heres my little story/idea for this monster that I came up with (im not very good at writing lol) : The masked things used to be a normal humans. All of them had their own issues and trauma. One day, they find a strange blank white mask. They pick it up curiously, and began to hear the masks voice in their mind "I can make all your wishes come true" it says "I can give you what you desire... all you have to do is put me on" Entranced by the masks promises they all put them on. As soon as they put on the mask their bodies distort. Their arms and fingers elongate, along with their torsos and legs. Their body isnt the only thing that changes, their minds become twisted and they are now just a shadow of their former selves. Here is the more individual stories for each mask/monster The baby- Was a young man with abusive parents. Because of his parents, he never really got to experience a happy childhood. So when he found the mask he asked to be able to relive his childhood. The mask changes his mind and he sees all the humans as childrens toys. He plays with them like toys too. Im on a time crunch writing this right now, and dont have time to write the stories for the others. Sorry! I might come back and edit this later though Side note: the sculpture is really cool, and thank you for giving me inspiration!
Faces are so creepy and well-done! The body is the stuff of nightmares, too. And, to be honest, I quite like that black ripple effect suggesting it emerges from the ground like water. It really sells the otherworldly aspect that you were going for!
Your channel inspires me in my deepest levels to do the same. I'm thinking about this for a long time, but your channel gave me the final push. I already ordered sculpting tools previously for other projects, so i just need the clay and the work could start. Thanks from Hungary, mate!!! Waiting for another, wonderful video of yours! Also, a personal note: i really love how you show the try & fail errors of the work you do. That's what makes this channel more educational, than you think, i guess.
The fuzzy shadows almost make it look like it’s emerging from some watery shadow dimension and that is SO cool. A clear cut monster emerging from a murky depth you can’t even comprehend!!!
I truly think that it’s just shows your passion as an artist that you spent the time to carefully sculpt all those small details that even with a regular paint job may not be fully noticeable, but especially with this black paint. The fact that you still wanted to make sure those details were there, make sure that it’s something you’re proud of and enjoyed the process of, even if the viewer may not notice those details, just makes you all the more impressive of an artist! Beautiful piece! So glad I found this channel on a late night RUclips deep dive!!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a clay sculpture on RUclips that has made me Feel so much. This is unnervingly real and effective, visually, and my brain doesn’t really know what to do with it. It’s surreal. I absolutely love it!!!
THIS IS SO AMAZING! My favorite faces are definitely the fanged monster one and the other one with teeth. The colours go amazingly well together and I would definitely buy this if it was for sale 😅
Honestly, watched this from start to finish i found myself amazed. As an artist, after watching this i feel like sculpting is just drawing but in 3D, and im speechless. Seeing you put so much detail and effort into such little things, things that probably wouldn’t even matter in the final cut, was just so…fresh. The fact you’d go out of your way to enjoy the process even if it came at the cost of speed was something i could really feel for. since i tend to do the same and value it a lot.
That would be a great surprise birthday gift for a young child. Just leave it by their bedside table after they fall asleep, then listen for the sounds of pure happiness when they wake up.
I kept seeing this in my recommended and finally gave it a watch, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I know nothing of sculpting or clay but you just make it very entertaining and relaxing to watch as you create ungodly horrors. I would absolutely crap myself if that thing appeared from the ground.
I just started studying sculpting in school like a year ago(almost) and gosh! I wish I would’ve found this channel earlier because it gives me such a huge boost of creativity and excitement to create something with clay. So thank you very soothing voiced art man! :D
Watering it down makes it less dark, I would say repaint it with a paintbrush. Near the end, it looks like it is crawling out of the concrete like it’s water with the shadows 18:50
Proposal: multi-figure sculpture based on Hollow Knight or it's upcoming sequel. There's a lot of darkness and void type lore in that game, and even the protagonist has a little black body under his grey cloak. Plus, since the figures in the game are fairly simple for the most part, a few of them together could be an interesting compositional challenge.
Ok I knew there was something darker than this. And it turns out the darkest paint is actually a japanese one called Musou black. It says "99.4%" light absorption but its far darker than Black 4.0 that claims to be 99.95% light absorption. Only problem is that it is toxic and smells really bad.
The fuzzy shadows remind me of still water being disturbed when something on the surface moves through it and I personally think it fits really well with this. When it raises up from the shadows the shadows themselves ripple and wave at the disturbed surface. Something that shouldn't physically be possible which only adds more to the uncanny look.
I can vouch for 3:35 by saying you spending more time to make it look good no matter what. It’s so satisfying watching people shape with clay and it’s so satisfying to work with. It’s your channel! You do you!!!
the black shading actually feels so strong and otherworldly. it really makes it seem like the unknown

You said that you cut the Black 4.0 with water. And I have to wonder unless, you were using distilled water, if that had something to do with the paint not being as black as you had hoped. There are impurities in the water, unless it was distilled, that will alter the color of the paint once it's dry because those dissolved particles are left behind.
that and the fact it's supposed to basically only be used with a brush brush and doesn't work if used in an airbrush-
@@TenkoshimuraAkashigaraki They literally say it can be airbrushed on
@@TenkoshimuraAkashigarakiMe when I make things up
@@newtybot okay but can you disregard the fact that it looked just fine and as it should for the mask parts where it WAS brushed on?
Faces that are interchangeable, hella neat!
I love the fanged monster face, but the long face is absolutely horrifying! I got chills from it.
The black paint looks amazing with this figure. Great job !
RUclips decided to suggest me this video and I ended up watching all of your content.
Thank you so much for sharing your creative process, reasoning behind your choices, as well as your mistakes and troubles. It's been a delight watching you grow your skill.
Waiting for the next video, whenever it may come up < 3
Thank you Polina. I'm happy to know you connected with the work/videos :)
we need someone to make this character some lore and turn him into a whole elaborate horror series.
that is actually much more closer to the vita carni elder mimic than no face
This looks insane!!! I seriously wish other youtubers would make awesome content like this, plus the end result was honestly so epic
would've been super cool if you went with a sort of drama mask direction with all the faces, but this is extremely creepy and beautiful in its own right. awesome job!!
this is fantastic!! deliciously creepy. love the fanged face.
i thought the concrete turned out pretty cool too - makes it feel like he's emerging out of the basement of an abandoned building or something
#1 dark souls enemy I never want to see, looks amazing!
personally really love the one without a nose, makes it look more uncanny instead of just 'spooky'
This is amazing. Its so wonderful to find the little corners of youtube with genuine, thoughtful, intelligent, and creative people sharing and thinking about their work. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
agreed !
The Hollow Knight music fits very well
This turned out fantastic. I appreciate your honest takes throughout the making process, keeps things grounded in a sense. Great videos!
Partway through here,
I hear you talking about being “a bad RUclipsr” and a slight tone of “maybe I shouldn’t worry about the details as much” or justifying your choices.
I like the first and baby face, but will agree the fanged one is more dynamic and striking for display
I love that you take your time to show us what to pay attention to. It came out incredible, I so enjoy watching you videos. Thank you for sharing.
You are an incredible artist
POV the thing that follows u when u turn off ur lights
Your videos are always a treat! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, process and awesome sculptures!
The black genuinely makes it looks like something is supposed to be there but isn't there, I don't know if that makes sense or not but if it does please tell me if you see it too
I need this sculpture right ficking now man it’s so cool 😭🙏
Faces dude, the faces !
I’m obsessed and absolutely binging this channel now, this stuff is so cool dude!
Cops hate it
HAHAHA GET IT CAUSE IT'S BLACK. IT'S A RACE JOKE HAHAHAHAHA
Nahhh
Crazy
GET OUT!!! 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Ok, screw you for that.
"I'm not going to do much detail"
*Instantly begins sculping down to the atom*
Heres my little story/idea for this monster that I came up with (im not very good at writing lol) :
The masked things used to be a normal humans.
Here is the more individual stories for each mask/monster
The baby- Was a young man with abusive parents.
Sorry! I might come back and edit this later though
Side note: the sculpture is really cool, and thank you for giving me inspiration!
Wow its so good, why Doesn't it have more likes?
nosk music for this horror is perfect
Faces are so creepy and well-done! The body is the stuff of nightmares, too. And, to be honest, I quite like that black ripple effect suggesting it emerges from the ground like water. It really sells the otherworldly aspect that you were going for!
Elder mimic from vita carnis
I was just thinking he would make a great one of those
Exactly!
0:38 missed a trick there, thought you were going to say you were going make the greyest grey.
it turned out amazing on camera, wow, even the shadowing on the concrete looks great, well done!!!
Dude this is other level of sculpting or whatever it calls, but it’s ducking awesome!!!
so you're the sleep paralysis demon spawner
Your channel inspires me in my deepest levels to do the same. I'm thinking about this for a long time, but your channel gave me the final push. I already ordered sculpting tools previously for other projects, so i just need the clay and the work could start.
Thanks from Hungary, mate!!! Waiting for another, wonderful video of yours!
Also, a personal note: i really love how you show the try & fail errors of the work you do. That's what makes this channel more educational, than you think, i guess.
I feel lik im watching how to make a scp
2:53 balls😮
You should submit this to SCP
Why is nobody talking about the background
I saw that to XD
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a clay sculpture on RUclips that has made me Feel so much. This is unnervingly real and effective, visually, and my brain doesn’t really know what to do with it. It’s surreal. I absolutely love it!!!
THIS IS SO AMAZING! My favorite faces are definitely the fanged monster one and the other one with teeth. The colours go amazingly well together and I would definitely buy this if it was for sale 😅
THE MIMIC!!
Meeting that thing in a subway alone at night would be terrifying indeed.
0:04 don't look at the male statue
you are 12 years old
@@MistKingHazo I'm not :)
It’s an anatomy figure, it’s gonna have one
Mini dong💀
@@FalltoCrimiez that's crazy💀💀💀
I love the fuzzy accident at the end! It looks like they are teleporting out of the ground and the portal is like muddy dark water, I like it!
Yep, I'm definitely gonna have nightmares about this thing, but that'll sort it's self out. (Awkward smile)
good job!!! now this guy gonna haunt you in your nightmares!!!!!!!
The baby face is the scariest for sure
That would be a great surprise birthday gift for a young child. Just leave it by their bedside table after they fall asleep, then listen for the sounds of pure happiness when they wake up.
I think also adding a mask that’s 90% black BUT the small tiny eyes and teeth are the only things white would be kick ass
Really amazing work!!!
Dude that’s amazing
This reminds me of the Elder Mimics from Vita Carnis
"Sometimes, its not the dark that scares us, it's what may be lurking just beyond the edge of the void."
- someone smart, probably
You the right RUclipser. Spending time and showing us quality and good results. Encouraging people to do art and not content.
please do take all the time you want to add al the details, we love it and gobble it up like all good little viewers should. insane sculpting.
This looks like the elder mimic from vita carnis. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING!
I'm in awe of your detailed musculature of this man/monster. We can see the love you express in each sinew of him.
it's like an elder mimic
The fuzzy shadows remind me of still water being disturbed when something on the surface moves through it and I personally think it fits really well with this. When it raises up from the shadows the shadows themselves ripple and wave at the disturbed surface. Something that shouldn't physically be possible which only adds more to the uncanny look.
Bro unironically Made an Elder Mimic from Vita Carnis
I can vouch for 3:35 by saying you spending more time to make it look good no matter what. It’s so satisfying watching people shape with clay and it’s so satisfying to work with. It’s your channel! You do you!!!
